  1. The Minelab harness (or any harness) is actually a 'different' concept. They use a frame (or a strap) but that frame is close to the body. The point of pull or the lift to the detector comes from the chest. The Hipstick has a mechanical advantage of holding up the weight of the detector away from the chest with your hips and leg and a minor amount of pull on the chest and arm. This makes the detector weightless to your arm if you adjust it that way. You can swing any detector with 2 fingers. You would not need the extra swing arm (I don't use it). The mechanical advantage of the Hipstick is what makes it superior and an additional item that can be added to any harness. Mitchel
  2. Wrap the bungee around the display screen. I did this for years with the 3030 and now I am doing it with the 7000. I thought the weight might be an issue on the case but it doesn't seem to be a problem yet. Mitchel
  3. Without a ferrite ring, how do you do the startup ... as before just walk around more quickly?
  4. Good shooting Lunk. By any chance will you be at the Gold Basin outings in a couple of weeks? Is that too far south too quickly? Mitchel
  5. I got that ground groan at one place in the northern part of Rye Patch area. I had to walk a couple of hundred feet away before I could use it again. Mitchel
  6. Scott, That pointer is Minelab's worst product I have owned. I think by now everyone knows my feeling and mine also broke when tightening it down on the battery. This was not a pointer I bought separately. It was part of my new/used 3030 package purchase a few years back. The pointer was included. Mitchel
  7. Lucky, Thanks for the instructions and you didn't include the nugget you let my wife keep. She has a big smile on her face because you let her dig that nugget. Just to set this up. Lucky heard a target and got me to come over and hear it with my 7000. It was very faint but he knows how to teach. My 7000 heard it too so we scraped away at it. When the signal got stronger he got Lu over to hear it with her GB Pro. (All this 15 minutes he is teaching us.) She dug the nugget (under .5g) and will always have a smile because of it. Thanks. Mitchel
  8. You are describing the river almost exactly the same way as the Yuba in Downieville. I was able to get my 18.3 g nugget on a soft spot, near the water line on the bedrock. It was my first river gold with a metal detector.
  9. The details as I remember them ... I'm a screen guy and not a numbers guy with the 3030 because it was jumping around a bit. It was in an area that had been detected by others over many years and maybe my advantage was multiple targets in the same hole. On the coin screen it was closer to penny than it was to a gold ring or pull-tab. But it turns out there was a piece of lead (1.3g) and a little piece of iron. It was in an area with a lot of volcanic quartz/iron bedrock but this signal was coming from a bit of crumbly material. I was able to dig it and it was ash/clay layer like on the edge of the Yuba River. There are some very hot rocks here but the 3030 will take them out. I was in all metal in relic mode so the sounds are a bit different than the screen. I was on fast and deep with gb on. Discrimination while here was between ground and coin and ferrous and coin. There is a difference in what it reports here more than the difference in mode to me. Have I confused everyone yet? It was my first gold with the 3030 and one more thing, I was using the stock coil.
  10. This specimen was found in Downieville with my 3030. It is 18.3g.of mostly gold with a little quartz.
  11. Steve, I agree with you. I've had the Pro, Minelab, the gun and a couple of others and this orange AT is the best of the lot. The worst product Minelab makes is their pointer. I'm using it on the beach when I find things with my big coil on a 3030 and it saves me a lot of time when I care to use it. Lately I have been trying to get better a pinpointing with a large coil so I don't use it. It seems that the problem with a large coil (which is like swinging a big nerf ball detection sphere) is not pinpointing but digging in the right place once we hear the signal. A large coil is so big there are many places to dig when you hear the signal. Slowly inching up on a target with the edge of a large coil will reduce the choices of digging the hole. (More on this in a different thread.) Once close to a target a small tip pinpointer like the AT lets you dig the proper part of the hole.
  12. If you find the right buyer you may make more selling the pieces 'as is' rather than just crushing it down. If you take a few pictures of it before you crush it next time and then post it here or on other forums you might get a buyer for the 'pretty gold' rather than the gold by weight.
  13. Good gold close to the source it seems. Thanks for posting.
  14. Confidence is a wonderful thing but what is even better is someone telling you where to find gold. I'm going to start using Norm's settings. I hope he tells me where to look also. No matter where you look ... you have to hear the signal and you did the work Strick. WTG. Well written story. You followed directions and instructions and we're all glad you got your results. Some of us are even envious. haha Mitchel
  15. Putin wants the gold train now ... http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/nazi-gold-train-russia/2015/08/30/id/672660/?ns_mail_uid=22742939&ns_mail_job=1633903_08312015&s=al&dkt_nbr=cwwgnrfx
  16. Norm, you are killing it. I want some. It seems it will be the end of September before the 7000 will see any work again. Mitchel
  17. What is the motivation of the writer? Has he been crossed or has he crossed someone in the past with such an attitude?
  18. They have found something! http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/polish-nazi-treasure-train/2015/08/26/id/672040/?ns_mail_uid=22742939&ns_mail_job=1633575_08272015&s=al&dkt_nbr=dgwefbvd
