  1. If given a chance I like to low tide hunt because the beach is bigger but lately, I have to go when I get a chance. These rings were found on mostly low tide but the hunt I did a couple of days later where I actually found better rings was at a different beach on mid-tide.
  2. I liked downloading other detectorists programs for the CTX. It was much easier to compare 'one to one' so you knew all setting were the same.
  3. Oh! That is a green ring I think from a toss game of some sort. I don't really know. The exterior is plastic but it is solid inside.
  4. It is the second ring from above. 13k by spectral analysis
  5. Today I went to a short hunt after dropping off my son at TK. The tide was getting up so I had to use a different search pattern. My second target was the silver ring. It is 6.7g with an interesting pattern. It says 925 i + h ??? Don't know exactly what that means but I'll look it up. The second ring came about an hour later. It is an unmarked, homemade Quora design, but feels like gold. It comes in at a 17 on the Nox. I went to Wilshire Coin and had them tell me what it is and they say it is about 13k but they are conservative. It weighs 7.4g. It was a good hunt.
  6. I think your detector is saying don't leave me!
  7. If you are a beach hunter like I am most of the time then you have to deal with the crusty, corroded, rusted, scratchy beach sounds. I mostly use my Equinox 800 with 15 inch coil and I listen for targets first and interrogate until the target starts to identify itself. At some point I determine if I'm going to dig (most of the time) based upon the sound, ID and what I have been finding nearby. I'll dig tent stakes, shield pennies, screws (steel & iron) and other things. I sometimes say to myself if I'm not finding rusty bobby pins then I'm not in the right place. With all of that trash in mind and the new detectors coming out with improved chips and id displays, what do we know? I mean, do we know that the manufactures are trying to make these trash signals 'invisible' or actually show them and make the id so good we know not to dig like a pull tab at 14 for instance on the 800. What detector have you found that works the best on the crusties?
  8. We don't have much information about either of these detectors for the beach as of yet so we'll be pulling out an answer. Which way are you leaning? I have a choice, but I'll wait for a few answers before I disclose my logic.
  9. What do you think they can do to improve nugget hunting? You obviously told them everything they need to know when you were working on the Equinox. I hope they referred to it in this development. On another note ... does this mean there will no longer be any Equinox updates? haha
  10. We are right often enough to dig everything on our beaches and we even like it when it gets deeper than 6 inches. I notice this happens here with nickels also but it is more jumpy.
  11. I saw a ferrous volume control! I have always turned up the low tones (ferrous) on the Equinox presets so that I can hear those deep targets that started out as ferrous. As King of Bling said ... if you don't dig those you are missing some good deep gold with the Equinox. It is also another reason to run the Equinox with the horse shoe off (all metal if you will).
  12. Are there any images of this with anything other than the 15 inch coil? Was that the coil used for weight comparison to the Equinox? What is the comparison to the Nox and its 15 inch coil weight?
  13. Steve, I notice from the picture above you are not strapping your arm into the cuff. That is the way I use my Equinox. I just rest my arm against the strap. Is that the way you use it and it balances without needing to strap?
  14. I went to my local coin shop to see what they think of the two rings. The 'coin' ring is actually a replica coin and rather than it all being 14k, they said it is 12k. That's still gold but it's not as valuable as it might look at first. The Cartier is a fake and has no value. We know that all that glitters is not gold. It was still a fun night and a challenge to my senses of detecting round shapes of mixed metals. I'll do a little more research to confirm the coin assessment.
  15. Last night I had a very slow start but when I ended, I had 6 rings! The first ring (black) is the Lord's Prayer Ring in Spanish. The last ring may be the best. My first gold ring in a few months. It was down over 12 inches and was just a wobble at first. It reminded me of nugget hunting. As I got closer it got better. This was at the end of a 4 hour session so I was tuned in for the deep little sounds by then. I was in one of the deepest patches I've ever had at this beach. It is marked 14k and has a Mexican coin in the center. It is just over 4 grams. A previous dig had me finding a Cartier! I've looked it up and those are the right markings but I think it is fake. We'll see later. It only weighs 4.3 grams and I think it should weigh more if it is 18k. And here are the other junk rings for the total of 6.
  16. Excellent diligence. There were lots of places you could have stopped looking. You deserve more than a thank you.
  17. What will we stop swinging if we use one of these? It doesn't look very nuggety! I don't think it will be a fit in the gold detectors. Will it have multiple personalities?
  18. That coil ear 'solution' will prevent other coils from being used unless someone make a lower shaft for the old coils.
  19. I remember the days 10-12 years ago when you looked at the printed ads or online ads for detectors and you paid full price, but you got extra coils and/or goodies.
  20. Well, based upon the informal 'survey' ... lowest price wins!
  21. It's also possible that you call up 10 dealers and take the lowest price. Volume is the name of the game for some dealers. You may not get the best service but if the manufacturer backs it then what the heck. You have to buy and register the real deal. If you are like me then you buy from someone who will provide training and a few pointy fingers. That will make up the difference. What would you rather have ... the lowest price for a detector or a fair priced detector which includes training and maybe some gold but certainly nuggets of information.
  22. Thanks for the visuals! They feed the passions.
  23. I think you underestimate the size of the Gold Basin Strewn Field. One of the best places still left to find meteorites is in the National Recreation Area. Some of the meteorite hunters went on the north side of Lake Meade just before they made that area off limits and they found a main mass weighing several pounds that was in two pieces. I saw it sitting on the table when they had the gathering at the 20th anniversary. It was only found about 3 years ago.
