  1. Welcome from East Texas.
  2. On sites where I have sole permission for long term I have made in ground test spots by placing desirable targets into challenging spots without disturbing the surrounding soil. Once you dig up the iron trash it is not the same as undisturbed. Nothing extreme, just representative scenarios This has been very helpful in the learning of my detectors/coils.
  3. I was wondering about you coil selection. That would need some real inventory control organization.
  4. Thank you for the detailed explanation. The interaction of Disc, tone break & iron volume used by Rutus is enough different that I have to really think about how it is intended to work. I still think the complete adjustability of audio that Nokta has given the Legend is ideal for high end units. I sure would like to have that same capability on the Versa.
  5. The rabbit maybe just one of a series of different motifs that were available from that maker with the same shock of grain(which symbolizes Plenty). I think some Google Fu would show that out. I bet they had a Sea Hag one too.
  6. Very nice. It’s odd that the shock of grain on the sight found button has a hollow reverse but the rabbit does not.
  7. @EL NINO77 Is the Atrex similar to the Versa in needing negative Disc on 1 tone to shift the iron tone break point? Can the user change the iron tone break point on multi tones with Atrex? This seems to be the whole basis of the current controversy with Versa. Having fully adjustable tone breaks & tone volumes on all Tone options; P, 1, 2, 3 & 6. would be very useful.
  8. For those who might be more hesitant, Nylon jaw blocks in a vise work well to straighten metal items.
  9. Nice condition coin. The Root Slayer family of shovels are great. My main diggers.
  10. Interesting finds. Perhaps your Copper item was intended for a consentrated liquid like perfume. The slot in the neck is for the spring wire retainer of the stopper. Looks to have been Nickel plated. Nice Big Ben.
  11. That is a very classy ring. No pun intended, just a simple, tasteful design.
  12. Fantastic hunt. Sounds like the site conditions were in you all’s favor but don’t discount you both knowing your machine and how to really use it. Knowing your mud and how to daub it!
  13. Freshly buried targets can be more difficult to pick up. Being brand new at using a detector is also a challenge Stay encouraged & put in some thoughtful time and a wonderful pass time will open up for you. Welcome from East Texas.
  14. Welcome back from East Texas.
  15. I don’t have Black sand on a beach, but l do have Maghemite relic sites that present a similar challenge. The minerals up average higher conductive targets around the scale into the ferrous zone where they will give a Ground/lron response. Mid conductor trash like pull tabs can come in as a Copper cent. @EL NINO77 really helped me out on overcoming this using the Hot Rock adjustment of the Versa shifted toward the Positive. I’m still experimenting with this, but it works to a noticeable degree. The MXT does this to some extent also by how the internal scaling is set. I think a Hot Rock adjustment would be beneficial on all high performance detectors. Is there a setting on the D2 or Manticore that will influence the Target response in relation to the TID scale? Magnetic Ground or Frequency addition modes?
  16. I have been following the recent/current controversy about the new Rutus Versa & it’s performance. Iffy Signals standardized 3D separation/unmasking tests really lit a fire. I’m glad it did because it will benefit Rutus, the new Versa & anyone who is objective and thoughtful. I am not a big fan of Social Media but You tube has proved invaluable in speeding not only some hurt feelings, but reproof & useful information/instruction. I’m sure l would have eventually figured out how to correctly set up the machine to pass this test & more effectively unmask in iron trash. I already know to do this with the Legend, MXT, Anfibio, F5,,,well,,,all my other machines. Surprise? But the Versa is a little different in design for tone break/Disc/Iron volume and there is a lot of information detail lost in the translation of language. Are people too quick to put up videos? No, I want to see it in action. Are people to quick to give an opinion? No, I will consider the source & make up my own mind. Are the self appointed “experts” too quick to pass Final Judgment? Most certainly. We saw this same storyline with the Deus 2, Legend, Manticore, Equinox 900 and every other introduction. They have all been better explained/understood & improved upon, thanks to controversy and the reach & speed of Social Media and passionate users & responsive manufacturers. Dang, now l have to re-hunt those same areas where the Versa already pulled some masked targets out of that had been missed by my other properly adjusted machines.
  17. This is a good discussion. The “new” detector introduction processed certainly has changed for the better. I think we can thank Nokta for this trend. Garrett is an astute company, and like XP & MInelab, they will see the benefit of better user responsiveness. Garrett makes their money primarily from the Security side of their business but metal detectors are their point of pride, their heritage. They will do a solid job on what may be coming. Us fanatics will huff & puff about it just like we did and do on all the recent introductions. It’s a great time for the hobby and to be a member here.
