  1. Thanks Jim! This time I found the "cutting board" for coins, probably the most interesting thing I've found to date, but not the oldest. Most folks don't know that Spanish currency was used right up to the 1850s, and the only way to make change was to cut it. That old large cent saw a few silvers, shame the parts weren't everywhere. 😀 The first coins I ever found detecting were cut 1 Reale pistareens. I'll probably never beat the half coin I dug in another field a while back (1607), lost very early in this countries' history, but it sure is interesting to try.
  2. Thanks Matt, this is one of the first places I got permission to hunt, it's nice that it keeps on giving. 🙂
  3. Thanks NC, it seems like it. I hope I'm not making this look easy, Chase mentioned that I need to somehow illustrate the amount of walking and "dead time" it takes in large fields like this to find anything of value, the trash only tells part of the story. ðŸ˜ĩ You pay for it in shoes and anti-inflammatory medicine 😀 The golf cart only gets you there. 😁 Saved about a mile of walking. What was going on here about 200 years ago is really beginning to gel in my mind, so yeah, the finds seem to be getting better. I wish I could find photos that tell the story in a more detailed way.
  4. Nice gold strick! 👍 Ring looks old. Any idea what the stone is? Glad the weather isn't holding you back. I know my wife would want that one.
  5. Thanks Jim, I was thinking scissors or something but it doesn't appear to be broken. The three nubs on it make me think it was centered in something. Some obscure tool maybe ðŸĪ” There have been a few mentions about scale in this forum, maybe I should make good ðŸĪ”
  6. Exactly what I did. I could not be more thrilled with the Deus 2. 🙂
  7. Nice find! 👍I take it you were in a field or park somewhere? That's one my wife would grab in a heartbeat. ðŸĪĢ Wonder if it's a real emerald ðŸĪ”
  8. Wasn't planning on going detecting today, it was cold and windy yesterday, and today was colder. Not much wind. It was supposed to start raining in the afternoon and rain all the way through Monday, windy on Tuesday. The next good day will probably be next Thursday, so I figured I'd try to brave the cold. It was in the mid 30s when I got out here, a farm close to my house. It's 200+ acres. If you've been following me it was also a horse racing track that was pounded by other detectorists. I've only found two spots they didn't know about or find, I've done pretty well there, and there was sort of a third today. One was a house that was there a long time ago, another a barn. This spot may well have been where some betting occurred, you'll see why. I was only out for 6 hours today before it started raining, but all things considered it was a great day. At one point I had to go back to the house to get my heated socks and gloves, they really helped. Unfortunately one of my neighbors tests his hunting rifles here, so at a certain distance there are a lot of bullets, mostly deer slugs that hit the Deus 2 in the high 80's and even low 90's. Dug a fair amount of trash today, even a couple bits of large iron. The green shotgun shell is a live round. Digging a lot of bullets is never fun, but you hope they caused someone to miss something, and today they sure did. I had just got out there, searched about 20 feet from my cart, and got a really nice 84/85 that I thought was either a bullet or a penny. I was surprised when this popped out of the plug: A totally beat up Spanish half Reale, I think the date is 1775, but it's really hard to read. It's off center, kind of normal for these. This is what it looks like in good shape: And the reverse: I'll probably never find one that nice! My first Spanish silver of the year ðŸĨģ At least the were enough marks to ID it. I searched around that area, Chase found another coin there recently. Got another 85 and thought it was a bullet. Again a surprise, and something very interesting: This appears to be a large cent that was used as a "cutting board" for cutting other coins into "change". It has no identifiable marks of its own, but the knife cuts tell a story. Here's the other side: It's 28mm so it's probably a large cent that broke on one of the knife cuts. Didn't find much else but bullets in this area, so I decided to walk along about 20 feet in from the road that bisects this field. Got a 93, and thought I'd found another silver, but got this instead: It's brass and does not appear to have been crushed or damaged. I have no idea what it is. Got another 85 and got this silver plated medium button: It was a bit taco'ed so I flattened it. A little further down the road, after digging a few bullets, all in the 80s and 90s, I got a 91 that turned into a 94, and dug this, my last find of the day: It's a little mangled but hey it's silver! I looked around a bit longer, and decided to call it a day, it started raining as I drove back to my house. For a hunt that I almost didn't go on, it was a good one. 🙂
  9. Cap'n if they don't work you're obsessing over a square peg not going in a round hole, or whipping a dead horse. 🙂 You tried everything with those headphones. The creative phones will work, as long as you didn't get the 4.1 model. If they say V2 on the box they will work.
  10. Good going Zincoln 👍 That sterling collar you dug is from a tobacco pipe, probably an English one whose name escapes me at the moment. Great run you're on! Could be a Peterson, Dunhill, many makers used silver as an accent piece and and possibly a heat sink.
  11. Sorry for the photo showing them with the Deus, as Chase wrote I have used them with both. I merely posted that photo to show you the wrap tape. Took the picture for another post to show they're ok with the Deus 2 as well with an Aptx-LL transmitter plugged into the backphone puck.
  12. Yes they do. Even the BT 5.0 version. I have two pairs of them bought months apart. They're on-ear and have bass boost, they will give you some situational awareness and sound much better than the XP backphones. I can wear them all year. You might want to wrap the top band with something they're not uncomfortable by themselves but I used some wrap tape. Here's some more info on them: https://uk.creative.com/p/headphones-headsets/sound-blaster-jam-v2
  13. Some headphones just don't play well. Yes, the + should show up at the same time. There might be a special setting on the headphones? I don't have experience with the headphones you are trying. I have about 4 different types that all pair well, even earbuds that I don't like, and I think they discontinued them. I provided USA links to the headphones I use, here's my favorite on Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lightweight-Bluetooth-Headphones-Multipoint-Connectivity-5-0-USB-C/dp/B08QRQMLVY I looked for the others I know work on the UK site but only found these. 🙂
  14. Aha, thought you might not be in the USA. 😀 Amazon UK charges extra shipping? ðŸĪ” I'd look them up there. Looked up your headphones, the reviews say they work with the 600 and 800. Not sure why you're having that problem, maybe your tea break was not long enough. 😉 Make sure both the headphones and Equinox are in pairing mode, the best way to get the Equinox in pairing mode is as I described above. Also make sure you reset your headphones first before doing anything, or at least determine how to put them in pairing mode when the Bluetooth icon is flashing on the Equinox. It can take anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes to pair, also make sure your cellphone is not in the room or had Bluetooth turned off. That may also help. 🙂
  15. Welcome to the forum! The 600 is a great machine, depending on what you are planning to do with it, it should have you covered just about everywhere except prospecting for gold. I have one. I've used mine relic hunting in farms, on the beach, and detecting campgrounds which are pretty much like parks. Started in my yard learning how to dig plugs that won't leave evidence of my presence. 😁 Don't be afraid to ask questions but do use the search function with key words to see if a question you have has been answered. 🙂
  16. Welcome to the forum. Are you looking for over ear or on-ear headphones? This is the place where you'll get the most info. I assume you are in the USA. These are on-ear and work very well, they're about $40. they're also noise cancelling. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B085DKHY5K These are my favorite, they are over ear, very light, very loud, and are also around $40 https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08QRQMLVY When pairing headphones for the first time you should probably do a system reset, restart the detector, then start the process. Turn on wireless/Bluetooth and wait for the wireless icon to go away. Turn on the headphones, hang them from the arm cuff, and walk away and have some coffee or something, when you come back they will be paired. 😀 Always know how to put your headphones in pairing mode, it helps later. You won't have to do that first time out of the box. I have a 600 and have used the on-ear headphones for two years now with no problems.
  17. Nice hunt Cap'n! Cool you're testing all sorts of programs on the D2, you have a favorite? Looks like you got a decent bit of taco money there, and it's always great to find the paper stuff. 👍 Do y'all dig or just pop targets? I may branch out to other counties' parks this year, we don't have any. ðŸ˜ĩ Kids are great at losing stuff.
  18. The only reason I might consider this detector would be if it had a 5 to 10,000 mAh PD battery in the handle to keep my phone charged while using it. Since I'm running OnX Hunt on my phone most of the time while detecting to track and record my finds, and sometimes switch to Historic Aerials and lidar mapping for intel on the area, it "might" be useful. Since cell phones are pretty resistant to and a source of EMI, I guess that might be a plus. ðŸĪĢ However, anyone thinking they won't need a new phone long before the contract ends might find this an ill-conceived advancement. Unless the 3d party folks can come out with some sort of really good protective scheme, you're going to scratch the crap out of your phone screen and get it covered with dust, salt spray and dirt. As stated by many of the above, there are and will be much better options.
  19. Bought one of these and reviewed it in 2021 along with a couple other forum members, my first (fairly awkward) review of a product here. 😀 It's been in my detecting bag ever since. I use it for its discrimination, when going after an iffy target once I get close to it with my main pinpointer I'll use it to see if the target is iron, and stop digging if it is. It's been pretty good in that respect but not flawless. Not long ago I was chasing a strong non-ferrous target or so I thought, it was probably 15-20" deep when it finally came out. When I was right on top of it I used the Quest and it sounded off full non ferrous. While a cool find, this iron stirrup completely fooled it (and my detector), probably because it was hardened. On the bright side, it also kept me going in this same field to retrieve this that was at least 12" deep: It's not my primary pointer for sure, as its high sensitivity settings as mentioned above cause it to go a bit nutty. Of late in the presence of other detectors and wireless stuff it's been giving an error message, something about holding it straight up. ðŸ˜ĩ That's after over a year of use (abuse) and a lot of new gear, I'm not the only one to have noticed this. This issue is not unique, my main pointer will go nuts like that as well, but it's not as annoying and goes far deeper than this one. Of the 4 I have it is my second choice, but as stated it is always with me. I wouldn't recommend it as an only pinpointer. Overall it's a helpful tool to have available, worth the money and the extra carry weight. 🙂 It's well worth bringing attention to this pinpointer again. 👍
  20. It's not too surprising here, most stuff is in the first 4-8", there is a clay/sand/loam layer, then red clay for about 6" more, then beach sand ad infinitum. The topsoil is blue marl, kinda sticky when wet, very heavy, but when mixed with farm tailings it's not bad. Most stuff doesn't make it past the clay. There are few if any rocks. Silver and large cents/copper discs will sound off down to 12". Sometimes we will find beer cans at 2', mostly big iron. Anything that sinks that deep is usually crap. Usually it was tilled in a long time ago. I'm certainly not saying the Deus goes as deep as the Axiom, just that whatever Chase detected with it I could detect too, I did have the 13" and the deepest settings possible. We dug some of the stuff that was iffy but it was all nails. In nearly every case the Deus 2 called it right, and the Axiom iron check worked well. It was interesting, but the wind was really ripping and I don't blame Chase for switching to the Deus to find something cool. He did. 🙂
  21. We were lucky in Virginia, Relic season started as soon as the harvest ended in October/November, and hasn't ended yet. 2nd warmest winter on record. They are just now liming the fields, still got a few more weeks. An additional bonus was "cover crop" instead of winter wheat. That meant all the stalks were crushed or tilled. This year, corn. ðŸ˜ĩ March is windy too.
  22. Great hunt again! The difference is staggering. We had the Axiom up here a couple days ago, heck of a machine. 👍 It didn't find anything the Deus wasn't finding, but we only used it for a short time. I followed with the D2 and identified what most of the stuff was, it hit bullets well. I selected a spot where iron and aluminum trash wasn't too heavy and there was potential for good targets. Personally I don't know how you do it, if I had to dig 2' holes for every target and have most of it be crap, I'd go nuts. ðŸĪŠ You're awe-inspiring. 🏆I could see it more on a beach than clay or wet ground. After that experience I appreciate a discriminating VLF even more. ðŸĪĢ
  23. Hey Capphd, Tried this solution, it works great. The transmitter, headphones, and adapters will cost you about $70. It's all Aptx-LL.
  24. Aaaaaaaand it's also the easiest to find. 😀 BTW that spoon bowl from my last post is silver. ðŸĨģ
  25. That would be a qualified "nope". 🙁 You could possibly plug a small Aptx-LL transmitter into the WS6 or WSA II headphones and run it that way with the puck in your pocket after pairing the transmitter with the earbuds, but that's about it. I haven't tried it but it might work. That's kinda interesting ðŸĪ” might try it for ya.
