  1. That is sad indeed. Sorry to hear this. It made me go back & re read his last gold porn post. RIP One Guy. I don't post on here often & living in New Zealand I don't know any of you on here but we all share the same passion that detecting & chasing gold brings. It has dawned on me lately that many of us are creeping into the twilight years of our time gracing this earth. Such is life. Getting out there searching is getting a bit more difficult & a challenge & possibly not putting in the hours we used to or would like to. Life catches up on us all. I am noticing too the number of musicians that I grew up listening too & respect, don't live for ever either but their music, songs & their messages do live on. Take care, stay safe & enjoy life thoroughly. One day it will be your last. None of us escape that day. D4G
  2. Bit like the SDC 2300. That is ML's game plan to "make" you have to buy another detector to fill the "holes". Same with hard wired & no other choice coils. OR very limited coil selection. Putting chips in to stop aftermarket manufacturing of coils. Look at the crap fight that X coils caused by looking after us with choices on The GPZ 7000. D4G
  3. I may have missed it, but what settings are you running? Cheers. D4G
  4. MMMmmm. Maybe the reason you aren't getting bigger deeper gold is that you aren't targeting it, preferring to target the small, tiny shallow gold by your coil size choices & depth into ground penetration. Your friend seems to love his 15"CC & that will be giving him some good depth. If you don't look for the deeper bigger gold you aren't going to find it. Or do you have trouble swinging a bigger coil? D4G
  5. If you are killing it then why don't you go buy a brand new 12 x 7? What other coils/detectors have you been using that weren't killing it? D4G
  6. Bummer. Surely it must have taken a knock. Maybe without you knowing. D4G
  7. You took the words out of my mouth. I was about to say similar. Thanks Phrunt. Do you still skateboard? D4G
  8. It appears that your cable too is wound under the shaft, but maybe further back from the coil. If it was wound over the top of the shaft the cable would be even further from the coil. More so when you lay the detector down, flattening the coil to the shaft & cable as in your photo. This can lead to false signals as you lay your detector down. That is some pretty tiny gold your friend got. Do you know what settings he was running? Thanks. D4G
  9. It is crazy that wasn't detected years ago. I often wonder if these kind of "discoveries" are legit & not just to push up a companies share price. Bit like someone claiming a big nugget find with a certain Minelab detector just prior to the Easter holiday weekend. Coincidently seems to happen all to often. D4G
  10. While sad that was nice. Thank you. To think I asked of Dave McCracken.... & there he was. Fare well Jim. RIP. You are in gold country D4G
  11. While I didn't know Jim personally, as I live in New Zealand, I was well aware of him in the gold world. RIP Jim. Talking of Happy Camp, What is Dave McCracken up to these days. Haven't heard of him for a while. D4G
  12. How come the thugs that delt to the old crew didn't get that gold if their intention was to carry on mining the "glory" hole after the old crew had got on to it & done all the hard work in discovering it & exposing it? D4G
  13. Maybe you could do a deal with Phrunt & he could get another one from his source & send it to you. Just a thought. Maybe Phrunt could become an agent for them as it sounds like a great pin pointer & demand could be high. D4G
  14. Totally unbelievable. 1.5 hours of my life I will never get back. D4G
  15. Some people just can't take no as an answer. Seems a strange way of trying to force your way into a "partnership" with vandalism & threats when it has become quite obvious they aren't wanted or needed & are just a pain in the arse. On the other hand it could end up like it did back in Jacobs day. Who knows what fire power they have or how many of them there are. Kind of strange the crew didn't know they were being watched for all that time. D4G
  16. Sounds like "Jacob" in Ghost Miners yarn. D4G
  17. Not a good thing to think.... let alone say. There in lye's the problem with some people & gold. It takes their mind, mixed in with the heat, fatigue & whiskey. D4G
  18. From my personal experience Minelab make the best gold detectors hands down. Based on our mild ground conditions here in NZ for me anyway. From the vlf gold monster to the high end PI's. The GP & GPX models with the huge amount of available coils of all shapes & sizes from not only minelab but after market as well made these detectors suit every detecting situation possible. The end user had a huge range of settings at their disposal as well to suit what the ground conditions threw at them once they got their heads around the settings. No easy task. Minelabs business model of "trying" to lock up the available coils for later models threw a spanner in the works. None more so than with the GPZ 7000. The availability of coils from ML, or lack of, severely hog tied many of us that had got use to the amount of coils we could plug & play with from the earlier PI's. The smallest offering from ML for the GPZ was the 14". Not good enough considering the many places you just couldn't swing that coil. The promise too from ML that they would make a 10" never came to the table. Took an after market crowd to do what we thought would/could never happen... happen. But the fallout from that was huge but twisted ML's hand to allow an aftermarket coil manufacturer to play the game. Same with the GPX 6000. We now have after market choices for that too, & I believe only because the first aftermarket coils for the GPZ 7000 crowd had made a coil too for the 6000. The 6000 is a great detector once you get the bugs ironed out. Took ML a while to come to the party with that too, but they did under warranty & kudos to them for that. D4G
  19. 100% correct. I too am a bit of a loner when it comes to detecting for gold. I think you need to be, & not from a selfish point of view, but I find I get into a zone of concentration & focus. I read this little saying somewhere & will repeat it here, A mental ground balance. Being by yourself you just go bout things at your own pace with no pressure to hurry up or rush or interruptions. These days it is those really faint on the fringe of detection signals that pay off, & you need to be on your game. Detecting for gold, for me, isn't always about the gold but also getting out into nature & enjoying the day. The gold being a bonus. Surprising how the gold seems to come along though. If it weren't for the love of the outdoors I could see how people could get bored & loose interest. That being the case it just wasn't for them. Be nice to hear some of your adventures to go with your finds. Again... nice finds. D4G
  20. The Minelab posts were most likely the number of disgruntled buyers of the GPX 6000 & its issues & Minelabs total lack of engaging. D4G
  21. Yes. There are a few blessed people that have that inner "ability". D4G
