  1. Good morning guys! I would need to understand if the behavior of my Legend is normal or if I need to go to service. Basically when I balance the instrument on the ground, the screen value tends to decrease until it reaches 0. Quite simply, maybe I'm looking in an area, terrain value 55, as I move (and I've noticed almost always on tilled/plowed terrain) and maybe I rebalance because the machine starts to be "noisy," with each pumping the value drops and reaches 0; it seems strange to me because often maybe from one area to another there are 50 meters and by now it's 4/5 times that it happens to me. Could it be that I find all soils with almost no mineralization and therefore the instrument cannot read it? Or am I doing something wrong? I would like to point out that if I switch the Legend to tracking mode, then it can read the value after a few minutes that I search. Thank you
  2. I decided to start another thread. I have an opportunity to purchase a barely used GMX Sport with two coils (still has the original Noni batteries). I also have the Legend. I want to hunt for nuggets around in the streams here in Oregon. What would be the advantages if any, of the GMX over the Legend? Any other comments would be welcome. Thanks! Walt
  3. Hi guys, I would like to ask for a little advice. The legend after the 1.09 update I admit has improved a lot, however, I would like to submit a question. In my areas, on soils of the Italian peninsula, often the good targets are very deep, and therefore sound iron, until I go to open the hole for a few cm. Obviously given this peculiarity I keep the iron tone very high, even at 10. What I wanted to understand well is this: the IF, should it then be set close to 1? From what I am beginning to understand, using the instrument, is that a low Iron Filter sounds better even iron objects, and as I get closer to 8 I lose this characteristic, which I need so much though. At this point, do you also have any advice on how best to set St? Just to hear some opinions from more experts than me. In the meantime I'll leave you with a nice picture of the last outing here in the central Apennines.
  4. Just for people that are new to my posts, I can get long winded quick. I did this testing for me and me alone to help determine which of these two detectors will be saying bye, bye. I am posting it here for anyone that wants to read it. This testing is not definitive, absolute or even remotely relatable to what you may see in other testing videos, may experience or have experienced if you actually read this post. This testing was semi controlled. I used a 18" by 12" by 12" black plastic container filled to within 2" of the top with dirt from my backyard that has had all detectable targets of any kind including hot rocks removed. I did not remove any of the tiny magnetite particles with a magnet. It has been allowed to become very dry and crumbly over the 4 years that it has been in this container. It shows 10 of 12 filled up bars on the XP Deus 2 magnetite mineralization meter. This dirt is as bad as it gets around here and mimics the unwatered dirt in the ground in this area up until yesterday when we got some well needed rain.....it is still raining today which is awesome for our water shortage here in the Colorado Front Range area. EMI was also an issue......... This testing includes foil and beaver tail aluminum targets vs a US clad quarter in separation testing and a depth test that includes a .25 gram piece of lead from a fishing sinker that was cut in half and flattened (mimics a small gold nugget or piece of micro jewelry), a modern US nickel, a modern US clad dime and a modern US clad quarter. The target separation test had three parts and no targets were elevated so all were at the same level laying on top of this nasty dirt: test 1. foil or beaver tail laying directly on top of the clad quarter, test 2. foil or beaver tail laying roughly one quarter's diameter above the quarter, so on the Y-axis or parallel to the center spine of the detector's coils and test 3. the foil or beaver tail laying roughly one quarter's diameter left of the quarter on the X-axis so perpendicular to the center spine of the detector's coils. Normal speed coil sweeps for both detectors were as flat as possible and roughly 2" above the test targets. See photos below. The depth test was done in the same container using two slightly different sized 8" long PVC pipes sunk vertically into the dirt 4 years ago. Inside the smaller PVC pipe is a foam insert with notches cut into it at one inch intervals that are big enough to insert coin sized targets. See photo below. The results from the depth test may be startling to some. These results are however fairly consistent with what happens in some areas of western Denver when the soil is bone dry. Add in some moisture and the results will improve by 1" to 2 " on coin sized targets. The improvement on micro jewelry and small nugget type targets is minimal since they already are so close to the ferrous/non-ferrous borderline. Just for your information, these separation tests, depth tests and field results are very similar to the Equinox 800 results on coin sized targets. On micro jewelry and small gold nuggets, the Equinox and Legend are roughly equal from my experience. Both detectors were properly noise cancelled and ground balanced. Deus 2 target IDs for the test targets on the test dirt's surface are: .25 gram lead =30, US clad nickel =63, US clad dime =91, US clad quarter =96, square of candy wrapper foil =26, beaver tail from a ring pull =61. Legend target IDs for the test targets on the test dirt's surface are: .25 gram lead =14, US clad nickel =26, US clad dime =46, US clad quarter =51, square of candy wrapper foil =11, beaver tail from a ring pull =23. The settings I used are the ones that I have settled on to hunt most of the time for coins and jewelry from trial and error. You can question them if you want, but I already have. They work as well as some others I have tried and much better than others that are recommended back east or in the UK. Deus 2 9" coil (I don't have the 11" and won't buy one since I don't need it and it is not as comfortable to swing for me): Sensitive 5 tones, discrimination =10, sensitivity =95, frequency shift (today) =3, volume =3, iron volume =3, reactivity =2.5, audio response =4, silencer =1, bottle cap reject =1, notch =OFF, 5 tones with tone breaks set at 10/59/65/88/. Legend 11" coil (can't wait for the 10X5"!!!) Park M1, discrimination on the G-ground setting, sensitivity =25, frequency shift today =4, volume =4, iron volume =6, recovery speed =5, iron filter =3, iron stability =3, 6 tones with similar tone setting to Deus 2 above that help me audibly distinguish possible target conductivity and type of US coin. ________________________ Deus 2 foil directly on top of quarter test: solid IDs from 87 to 96 indicating a high conductor. ID stability lessened near the edges of the coil Legend foil directly on top of quarter test: solid ID of 48, indicating a high conductor, very stable. Deus 2 foil roughly 1" away from quarter and directly above it on the Y-axis: IDs from 76 to 82. Sounded like one target. It was easy to cherry pick and identify each target by conductivity of tone and ID by moving the coil along the Y-axis until the front or rear edge of the coil was only over one target. Legend foil roughly 1" away from quarter and directly above it on the Y-axis: IDs from 20 to 22. Sounded like one target. It was easy to cherry pick and identify each target by conductivity of tone and ID by moving the coil along the Y-axis until the front or rear edge of the coil was only over one target. Deus 2 foil roughly 1" away from the quarter and directly to the left on the X-axis: three distinct target IDs and corresponding tones in the 50s, 70s and 99 which clearly showed multiple targets swinging from right to left. Swinging from left to right there was blanking/nulling of the background noise and then 99 as the coil's left edge left the foil and was only over the quarter. Legend foil roughly 1" away from the quarter and directly to the left on the X-axis: three distinct target IDs and corresponding tones in the 20s, 40s and 50s which clearly showed multiple targets swinging from right to left. Swing from left to right there was blanking/nulling of the background noise and 48 to 55 IDs as the coil's left edge left the foil and was only over the quarter. _________________________ Deus 2 beaver tail directly on top of the quarter test: solid IDs 88 to 96. Legend beaver tail directly on top of the quarter test: solid IDs 49 to 52. Deus 2 beaver tail roughly 1" above quarter on the Y-axis (like above): one target sound only. IDs 72 to 82, targets easy to separate like above with good IDs using front and rear edges of coil. Legend beaver tail roughly 1" above quarter on the Y-axis (like above): one target sound only, IDs 33 to 36, targets easy to separate like above with good IDs using front and rear edges of coil. Deus 2 beaver tail roughly 1" directly left of the quarter on the X-axis (like above): sounded like one target swinging in either direction, ID 99, not easy to separate, target IDs for beaver tail 44 to 50, quarter 99. Legend beaver tail roughly 1" directly left of the quarter on the X-axis (like above): sounded like three distinct targets from right to left with IDs of 38-46-54, swinging left to right there was blanking/nulling of the background noise and then target ID of 46 or 54 when the left edge of the coil moved past the beaver tail. Easy to cherry pick with beaver tail reading 23 to 30 and quarter reading 46 to 55. _______________________________ Depth test Coils were swung as close as possible to the top of the PVC target holder. Deus 2 on .25 gram lead at 1" depth: =faint response with target IDs jumping from 30 to 99. 2"= no response. Tried default Goldfield.....no response at 1". Legend on .25 gram lead at 1" depth: =iffy response with target IDs jumping from 11 to 20. 2" =faint response (definitely something there) IDs alternating 11 and 60. 3"= no response. Default Gold Field using the A discrimination setting (all metal) hit this target down to 3". At 3" it was a faint response (definitely something there) with no ID, only tone. Deus 2 US nickel at 3" depth: =61 to 64 ID, good audio, 4" =64 to 74 good audio but crossed over tone break, at 5" =64 to 99 iffy audio and multiple tone breaks crossed, 6"=faint response 99 ID or no ID. 7" = no response. Legend US nickel at 3" =ID 26 strong audio, 4" =25 to 29 good audio but crossed over tone break, 5" =25 to 60 iffy audio and multiple tone breaks crossed, 6" =25 to 60, faint audio, etc. 7" =no response. Deus 2 US clad dime at 3" =ID 91 to 93 good audio response, 4" =91 to 96 iffy response, 5"=99 or no ID faint response, 6"=no response. Legend US clad dime at 3" =ID 45 to 48 good audio response, 4" =44 to 52 iffy response, 5" =44 to 58 iffy response, 6" =48 to 60 faint response, 7" =60 to no ID but know something is there, 8"=no response. Deus 2 US clad quarter at 3" =ID 96 to 97 strong audio response, 4" =96 to 99 good response, 5" =97 to 99 iffy to faint response, 6"=99 to no ID very faint but know something is there, 7" =no response. Legend US clad quarter at 3" =51 to 52 strong audio response, 4" =50 to 54 good response, 5" =53 to 58 iffy response, 6" =56 to 60 very iffy response, 7"=58 to 60 faint response, 8"=no response. __________________________________ the photos show the targets and testing scenarios. The top foil/quarter and beavertail/quarter were the actual test targets. Thanks for reading if you actually did.
  5. For those of you who have been following the issue on YouTube about The Legend and it's supposed problem with foil trash, I wanted to share with you that I think I have discovered who TN Sharpshooter is. Listen to the voice and tell me if I'm wrong. Here is TN Sharpshooter: And here he is "unmasked" (that's a detecting pun): Just having a little fun to lighten the mood. Remember, this is a hobby, right?
  6. It appears NM have a new update tool available on their website. Hopefully it is a good improvement over the past versions & there is a new update coming soon.
  7. Thread title says it all. Post here with links, rumors, anything related to additional Legend coils being released.
  8. Has anyone done an in the field depth test between these two coils? Not buried items. Jim
  9. This morning I decided to try out update 1.09 at a local S. CA beach. The Legend performed well in both the wet and dry sand. However, I wanted to check the stability setting and was unable to since the "IF' setting had been added in 1.09 and I had forgotten to bring along my update notes. Not a big deal, though given the number of keypad shortcuts in all of these updates I think I will laminate a cheat sheet going forward. it's just too much to remember. Anyway, when I got home and reread the update notes, I came upon the update note regarding stability. Specifically: 1. Iron Filter and Stability settings have been added. When the device is working in Multi frequency, select the Recovery Speed setting and press the pinpoint button. Letters "IF" (Iron Filter) will appear on the right side. Iron Filter (IF) setting ranges between 1-8 and the default value is 8. Default value 8 is the same as the previous versions (v1.05, v1.07) Legend with no iron filter setting. Lower IF setting will increase the probability of ferrous targets to be classified as non-ferrous targets and vice versa. Stability setting (st) is the fine tuning for the IF setting. When the IF is set to 8, the st setting will be inactive in the Park, Field and Gold Field modes. When the IF is set to any value below 8, the St setting can be activated by pressing the right or left button and can be adjusted by using the + and - buttons. NOTE: The st setting in the beach mode is different than this new st setting! Now here is the problem. When I follow the instructions while in beach mode the stability setting that I get on my detector is "5" which, according to the manual, should be a default of '1" to ensure that you don't miss small gold. I did several factory resets to make sure this wasn't operator error (at least in my mind) and each time the default came up as a "5." I had to manually set it to "1." Am I missing something here or is this a bug? Also, just an observation , the black buttons are a royal pain in the neck to see. I was hunting under a pier and the buttons might as well have been invisible. I don't understand why N/M didn't give them a grey color or white highlights (which I may add myself). Lastly, my Legend was the only one on the beach. Checking targets with other multi users I ran into the Legend held its own. I came away impressed with its performance in the wet salt sand. Bill (S. CA)
  10. I am having an issue with the ground balance on my Legend, I have watched Dilek's last video where she states the ground balance is working correctly, but I do not feel it is in my case I have re-installed the 1.09 update 7-9 times because of what I am seeing, my ground balance values run anywhere from the 50s to the 90s which most of the time it is somewhere in the mid to high 80s I have ground balanced with two other detectors several times, just to compare, when I start seeing the issue arise with the legend the Simplex Plus and the AT Pro both run fairly close in the GB Numbers, the Legend also after each re install of the 1.09 reads close to the simplex and AT Pro as far as GB values, here is where I think there is a problem with the Legends Ground Balance, after each re install the GB number's appear to be correct but with in a few days what I start to see is the Legend's GB values start declining and reading 1-12 most of the time it will end up at 0-1 on GB values but when I check the ground balance values with the simplex plus it is still giving me GB numbers 50-80 or 90s how in the heck can those numbers on the legend be so off from the simplex plus or the ATP, according to Dilek in the Video the legend ground balance is doing what it is supposed to do can someone explain how this is correct so that I can understand
  11. Have had the equinox 600. Liked the screen and it performed pretty good. Now getting the itch for another unit. Still have my xp deus. I am familiar with the equinox 600 but never had an 800. That being said and for those who have used both the 800 and the legend now, which would you pick? I have had several nokta makro units from the fors core, racer, racer 2, anfibio and the Kruzer......they were all very well built and had a great layout. That being said, since the legend is a totally different machine than their previous line up, I am kind of curious and they are on my radar. Any and all feedback is welcome. Thanks Tim
  12. All, Was detecting this afternoon without the headphones and about an hour into, the sound (external speaker) stopped completely. It was fully charged, version 1.08 and it has been working fine up until this afternoon. The mute function is not activated, checked that twice. Turned it on and off several times, still no change. It is showing VDI’s, and everything else seems to be working fine, just no sound. Any ideas or anyone encounter this? Thanks.
  13. I’m having problems with this 1.09 update too .Tried it on 2 different Windows 10 computers but does not work .1.07 was tricky too but finally got that one to go .”0pen with” selection seems to be a stumbling block .Any help would be very much appreciated .
  14. Hi all , I was wondering if anyone has had issues with their Legend's battery . Whether they are seeing it run down to quickly ? I did a beach hunt in beach mode with no light on , no other known battery wasting things and was down to 2 notches on the indicator with either side of 6 hours use . I wonder if it's why there is a Pro version as they know the machine eats battery power ? Other than this . Not a bad machine.
  15. I got out for a short hunt this evening in spite of the heat. I wanted to check the new Iron filter settings, audio gain & Mineralization meter on one of my red dirt relic sites, 4 bars on the new meter. Not sure what that value is. I hope NM will publish a detailed chart, something specific like Fisher does for the F75. It is very dry down past 12 inches so the nails & small iron this site is loaded with were very well behaved. No real falsing even at an Iron filter of 1.1 so that is how I hunted. Small & big iron still very identifiable. What I did notice is that the Ground tracking feature is not working properly. This site, like most of my red dirt sites has ground that varies 8-12 points over fairly short distances. I have often used the Ground tracking on The Legend before with V1.06 and it worked quite well, Now, with 1.08, you can get a very precise Auto Ground Balance & it will hold that value as it should. If you engage the Auto Tracking function the GB value will almost immediately start counting down to zero in increments of 6. It does this if the coil is held stationary in the air or swept in a normal fashion over the ground. If you re- ground balance it will grab the value again and then start counting down to zero. I will try to install V1.09 since it related to GB in some degree. Has anyone else noticed this behavior with V1.08. V1.09?
  16. I put the 1.09 files into the recently downloaded files of my MacMini. Turned on the Legend and it says UP. Now I am confused, do I go into the Legend and download the File?and if so how do I switch and get out of UP?And what's Next to do..Thanks alllll.JT

  18. There is a change in US nickel target ID from 25/26 to 23 if ground balance is changed from 0 to around 40 and above using the Legend in any of its Multi frequency modes. This appears to be a 1.08 update only issue. I don’t ever remember seeing this in 1.05 (never used 1.06 or 1.07) It also can happen on similar conductive targets that have target IDs around the nickel range. I have not been able to duplicate this on higher conductive targets or much lower ones like small gold. 40 kHz single frequency does slightly up average most targets by one target ID segment compared to 10, 15, and 20 kHz no matter what the ground balance setting is. I have updated to 1.08 and have done a User Profile full factory default reset. This change in nickel target IDs is slight (just 2 digits) but shouldn’t be happening in my opinion. If you want to test your 1.08 Legend just take a US nickel which normally has an air test target ID of 25/26 and first sweep it in Park or Field Multi 1, 2 or 3 with ground balance set on 0. Change the ground balance to at least 40 or higher and you may see the nickel ID change to a steady 23……. This anomaly was first noticed by History Teacher whose YouTube channel is Southern Relics.
  19. I'm not saying anything against the performance of the Legend. I like it. The Legend 11" coil is to heavy for me. Just a comparison, the Equinox 11" coil is much lighter. The Legend 6" coil is a little heavy for it's size. Again for comparison, the Equinox 6" coil is very light. I'm waiting for the 5x9.5 coil and hope it's a nice light coil like the Kruzer coil. That would be my main coil. I'm looking forward to it. I would like the coil to be white like the Gold Kruzer.
  20. Others may be well aware of this but for myself, I have just recently realized the fuller benefits of The Legend auto saving adjustments to the tone settings. When inPark, Field or Beach mode you can select any of the 6 different tone options. All but 1 tone also allows you to adjust the tone break. Each Tone option can be different from the others and the setting is saved automatically. This feature, along with the efficient User interface is remarkable to me. As an example, I have User profile #1 set up for my standard go to hunting. Field is for relic/ no modern trash sites. I have 2 tone set with a Tone break of 6. 4 tone with TB at 6,21&39. 6 tone( still under construction) TB at 6,18,27,40&45. 60 & Pitch tone with TB at 6. I have also varied the tone pitches & volume for some of these. My 6 tone actually uses only 5 different tones. So within just User profile1 Field mode, I have 6 different set ups saved and ready to use that are quickly accessed with just a few button pushes. Add into consideration 4 Disc patterns and that is a lot of easy & fast versatility in just one mode in one User profile. My Park mode is for modern Aluminum trash and even more diverse. I’m going to have to make myself Cliff Notes! There is more potential here than I think I will ever be able to utilize.
  21. Just took the Legend out of the box for the 1st time since I bought it when they 1st came out a few months ago. 1st thing I did was put the Legend together and then Plugged the Detector into my Apple MiniMac.When I plugged the Legend into the USB I saw a quick light flash on the Legend,so I left it since I felt it was going to charge.A hour later the screen was still blank so I turned on the Legend.Well it turned on without a problem and the top left it looks like the Battery is fully charged. My Question is,is the Legend supposed to be off when charging? And if so is there supposed to be something on the screen telling you when its at full charged?Orrrr is the Legend supposed to be on when Charging?Just wondering....>JT
  22. To All Legend Users: The updated manual is posted on our website and labeled as v.1.08 on the cover as per your request. You can download it from the link below: https://www.noktadetectors.com/wp-content/file-download/the-legend/the-legend-user-manual-en.pdf
  23. After installing the new 1.08 update don’t miss the line in red letters under the link to the update that says do a reset to factory defaults after you install the update. It’s important so the machine functions properly.
