Popular Post mn90403
Friday night I got out to what I was hoping would be a great night of detecting ... but I had my doubts. My doubts were based upon the direction of the hurricane. It was approaching Los Angeles from the S and SSE which isn't a great swell maker. I managed to get out before the low tide and I put in an all nighter (8 hours) on a favorite beach and a beach oriented to take maximum advantage of the storm direction. The waves were really pretty small. I managed one silver ring and one silver bracelet. My favorite beach produced 5 rings including the silver and two chains. My 'opportunity beach' which has produced some good jewelry in the past had very little for me on Saturday morning. It was still an enjoyable night with the clouds and spritzes of rain to break up the heat.
strick
Nice work Mitchel...I hear some of the beaches down south got pounded with large cuts...wish we would have some weather up here as I have not been to a salt water beach yet in 2022... strick 3
midalake
Not sure how disappointed you should be? You had a great plan. Looks like lots of targets. Maybe just not the right ones. It happens, but you put yourself in the best position to come out ahead! 1
mn90403
You have to be there to learn the beaches under different conditions. I was just hoping to learn more! haha
Valens Legacy
Well it looks like you had a lot of fun even though it was some hard work. I know that it is not a good feeling when you don't find what you are really looking for, but what the hay I am sure you had some fun. Good luck on your next hunt and may you find something better and bigger. 1
Compass
You are right about most of the SoCal beaches not being oriented to take advantage of the SE swell angle. Fortunately, as Strick pointed out, Hurricane Kay moved lots of sand at a few beaches farther south and created some ideal detecting conditions.
Northeast
Nice hunt Mitchel ? The little snake thing looks pretty cool. Do you think it was from a necklace?
