The Long And Winding Hunt (relics, Coins)

Yikes, what a week! Took the day off yesterday from detecting to hang out with my wife, dog, and to go to the real Barber. All I say when we go to her is "no guard" and whatever is there is gone. Got used to it in the Army, and while I do have some, I'd rather have none, but am too lazy to shave my head. When I was young it was down to the middle of my back ?

Got out today, another spring day in winter. It got up to 66 but was windy. Did the whole hunt, 7.5 hours, in a t-shirt and light cargos, my spring detecting couture. ?  I used the WS6 Master, my go to scouting machine with the 9" coil, and Relic Reaper all day.

Today I was determined to randomly hunt everywhere I could in this 250 acre farm near my house. Everywhere I haven't been, anyway ?. I have a couple of easy hotspots but I ignored them today, looking for quality, not quantity.

The photo above shows the first part I went to, it's about a mile from the entrance. I'm glad to have a golf cart at my age! Hunted around at random, and got a 1981 quarter and this cool brass plate that may be from a pistol or rifle:

The back has a ferrule and is threaded for a screw:

I went way out in back there, nothing but small blips of iron. Suddenly I got a 91, and excitedly dug this:

Another Draped Bust half cent! This one about 40 miles from the last one I found. ? Two in one week.

There are a few more details, and I can pretty clearly make out the "1804" on the obverse with a loupe.

Hacked around the field a bit more, got nothing, and went back to the main field.

I'll make a long story short, y'all are probably sick of me this week. ?

Relic Reaper worked like a charm, got nearly no trash again.

Grease gun pull tabs, molten metal from a barn that burned in the 80s, buck balls, bullets, and harmonica bits, the usual. Two nails managed to fool me but not this copper spike:

It's almost 3 inches long and heavy. 85 all around.

Here's the rest of the story, got a cool silver plated brass dog pin that is possibly an Airedale, thanks to a good friend.

It was Taco'ed, so I gently placed it between a 2x4 and a 4x4 block and smashed it flat with a hammer ? don't blame me, I learned this from @strick. ?

1921 wheat, some kind of cabinet hardware, and a Tombac shard round it out.

There is a great deal of diversity of finds from your sites F350.Personally I have never dug a large American copper out here in the west, but I doubt if it ever gets monotonous.The copper or bronze spike is a nice addition to any collection and the plated bow wow ain't to shabby either.Thanks for keeping us entertained.

Just how many times have I said nice, great, fantastic, or wonderful hunt this year to you.

You are just killing it and making me jealous that the ground is still frozen to dig anything.

Thanks Doc, gonna take a break for a few days, this weekend must be the end of rabbit hunting season. There are a bunch of hunters out in front of my house right now. My buddies and I were laughing that I didn't find the cinder blocks holding up the ship that they stole and dragged into that field.

There's been so much speculation and such about new detectors, I hope finds are a good break from it ?

I get ya VL, as I mentioned above it's probably getting mundane. I feel for y'all in the Great White North. Or the Great White West.

I really enjoy your humor and straight up comments. ? the half cent was the feature, two in 2 hunts has gotta be rare. ?

Just saw a video where the guy chucked his Predator Raptor at the ground and it bounced off. ? But here that will happen and a day or two later it will stick.

Totally forgot about this new thing I got for the WS6 Master, a rain hat. I had to order it from the UK, and shipping was 3x the price of the accessory, but I got it in 12 days, so not too bad.

I'm always worried that I'll get water into the WS6 module cleaning up after a day out, so this cover keeps me from having to clean it. I still have to remove it to charge the module, but I guess that's ok. I can clearly see the display and manipulate the buttons fairly easy.
