rod-pa
I snuck out for an hour between thunder storms to the old hotel site I have posted finds from a couple times....did not disappoint. I can say I have never dug a quarter cent before, but here is my first cut half cent, 1835. Right next to the old pump well, like 6 inches from the platform and only a couple inches down. Most of the old coins have been 8 to 10 inches deep. Probably the dirt there has been dug up a couple times in the past years for maintenance, etc.
JCR
That is certainly unusual and in nice condition too. Somebody was pretty particular about exact change.
Rick N. MI
Great find. Being cut and with date makes it even better.
fogrider
That's very cool! I wonder what 1/4 cent would buy you in 1835?
rod-pa
Rick, my thoughts exactly, once I realized it was a U.S. coin.

Gold Seeker
1 cent in 1835 had the buying power of 35 cent in today's money, so 1/4 of that would be around 8.75 cents in today's money, but stuff was really cheap back then so I think it would buy more than almost 9 cents worth. https://www.officialdata.org/us/inflation/1835?amount=0.

In settled areas they were whatever was considered normal. In frontier areas prices were much higher. Transport cost was one real factor, but scarcity and outright price gouging was common.
