Daniel, thanks for the tip. I know you have found a lot of Civil War relics in the past, so I will definitely put that on my list. I have a birthday coming up in April, so I will start dropping hints

Tom B, have you discovered where camps were located, especially those that were there for 2 weeks or longer? Trash pits, latrines, or Winter huts can be gold mines. Your detector is perfect for that job, but you'll want to listen for deep iron. Those food cans, bayonets, canteens might lead to great finds. As for swinging heavier detectors, I use a Lejermon harness, even on lighter units. they carry about 85% of the swing weight and are inexpensive.
