  1. Today
  2. Welcome to the forum and should you ever have any questions please ask and I am sure that someone here will be able to answer your questions. We welcome your posts on your finds as well as pictures also. Good luck and take your time to learn the good habits of this hobby, and it will make you a better person with the detector. Good luck and good hunting.
  3. Welcome to the forum and I know that you are in an area that has some rich history with it. Looking forward to seeing some of your finds and the stories on how you found them. Good luck and good hunting.
  4. That's good news, you're not at fault, you will likely be ok, they better hope yours is a rare occurrence. Make sure you describe it well to them.
  5. Well it will be an issue if that's the case, cause when I say it lost power...my house didn't lose power and the cord did not get pulled off during the update. The detector and laptop were laying on top of a table during the update. The screen went dark half way through, and I wasn't sure what to do so I did nothing and just waited thinking it would finish up eventually but obviously it never did.
  6. Depends on their policy regarding this type of stuff, all you can do is send it / drop it in and hope for the best. Being an waterproof detector they can't pop the pod open do any technical sort of fixes, so unless they have a trick recovery method that we are unaware of then it's a big issue. It might just be a glitch that they need to remove the battery to reset it fixes, but let them troubleshoot it. They wouldn't make you buy an entirely new detector, worst case they'd sell you a new pod if they reject warranty on it. It will be a good test to see how nice their service is, if they replace it, they're very nice. I've got my fingers crossed for you.
  7. When you say it's toast, and it may not be covered by warranty...I could just be out $1200 then?
  8. I think we can rule out the use of GPX coils on the Nokta Pulse machines, they're waterproof, the GPX coils are either not waterproof or waterproof to shallow depths, this was all the GPX needed seeing the coil connector is just a 5 pin microphone plug that isn't waterproof anyway with the GPX itself not being a waterproof machine. Looks like we can expect entirely new design new coils from Nokta, I hope they don't try and lock them down in any way and embrase the aftermarket possibilities. When their detector becomes popular enough it's likely some aftermarket manufacturers may make some coils for it, probably Detech would be one of them.
  9. When updating firmware there is a critical spot that needs written, basically a boot loader, it would be required for the recovery procedure, in your case it was likely writing this when it lost power, so recovery won't work, had it gotten further into the update you would have likely been OK as the detector would have had the software portion required to recover, detector is needing a trip to the service agent, iffy one if it's warranty or not, they can go either way, had you not lost power (knocked off the cord?) you wouldn't be in this bind, it's not a manufacturing fault. I'm the sort that's extremely careful doing firmware updates not to lose power, I do them off my laptop so if the house power goes out for some odd reason my laptop will survive and keep going with the update, decades of experience doing many thousands of them has made me jittery when doing them, and extremely relieved when they're over 🙂 They're a lot safer than they used to be, but still there is a risk, and you've demonstrated that. Unfortunately, it's toast.
  10. They need to incorporate the hold down button press noise cancel into all of their detectors, like the Nox 800, but most importantly the GPX 6000. It really gets me grumpy they give the X-Terra pro the feature by a firmware update, but not their $9000 NZD GPX 6000.
  11. In any case, with all three coils both M8/9/11 with the exception of the larger diameter, slightly less prone to the "problem," there is no question that the rod end is causing a percentage of falsing. While I was initially aware that 35 maximum points was beyond optimistic in my area, while staying under 20 there is still a slowed swing speed to be employed otherwise distinguishing signals becomes more fatiguing. Simon has shown how responsive the coil is to oscillatory movement on the pivot but at this point I am beginning to fear a mirroring of the magnetic field on the rod end and I may have misexplained the concept...To make a long story short, I will have to mount something in fiberglass to eliminate this nagging doubt, and for that matter I am not so surprised considering that the Deus2 detected its top metal rod when I was in diving configuration. If it were recognized that the rod end created this problem to such an extent that we could not raise the sensitivity without getting false signals, we would start changing the part immediately... It doesn't cost anything to dream 😂
  12. I have the WS6 setup without the remote control. My WS6 is using version 2.0 software. When I turn on my WS6 and scroll to Program 1 General, the large target ID numbers are displayed automatically by default. If I don't want those big numbers I have to disable them. If I turn my Deus 2 WS6 off and back on, the large numbers automatically are displayed for the stock #1 General program. I can only assume that it's the same with the full remote using the stock General program on startup.
  13. Hey all, my name.is Mike, I'm from east-central Indiana. I started detecting about 10 years ago or so. Started out on a White Coinmaster Pro, bumped up to a Whites M6, then o. To the Whites V3i. (Man what a unit, I miss it. Also ran a Whites Surf Pi onfreshwater beaches. I'm back after a long absence. I currently own a Minelab X- Terra pro and an Equinox 900. Looking forward to being on the forum.
  14. Here in North America it’s prime gold prospecting season especially in the mountainous areas that are experiencing snowmelt. I can’t wait for Steve G. to get a new lower shaft to market so DIY temporary solutions will have to do if I want to use my Manticore for gold prospecting.
  15. I don't think the big number screen is the default, not unless something has changed in the upgrades. I am a new user of the D2. I had been a long-time user of the original Deus. The unit I have is version2.oo, brand spanking new. It has never been out of the house. I have been practicing on how to go through the various programs before going out to the field, so I have turned the unit on and off maybe 20 or so times and program 1 always came on without the big numbers. Once I enable the big number screen, that's when it changed.
  16. Its been mentioned a few times that the earlier version of the GPX 4500 was/is the deeper of the 2 models, but my question is how can one tell what version mine is please, its done by checking the serial number on the control box. But does anyone have a list or how can i find out please which version i have, some help on this one would be most welcome,as i understand it the earlier 4500 was the slightly deeper and more desirable one. Any information/advice would be most welcome. Many thanks.
  17. Since the parts are now available I deleted all the extraneous stuff on this thread so people can get right to the answers / links.
  18. I tried both USB ports and two different charging cables, I have an X-Terra Pro also. Both cables are fine, contacts are clean. The update on the X-Terra Pro went fine. I agree, I will call them Monday, hopefully get a quick turn around wether it be a repair or replace deal.
  19. I started to get bummed out reading the replies from the first page on, very happy to see Garrett has a bunch of spare parts available for the Axiom. From coil bolts and washers to skid plates, and the two pieces of the CF shaft. I went over and purchased a couple bolts, a coil cover, and a lower CF rod for my spare coil to swap out. They’re running a nice Father’s Day discount promo this weekend too (FD15 is the coupon code). Here’s the Axiom specific parts: https://garrett.com/store/?s=Axiom Upper CF stem assembly: https://garrett.com/store/axiom-middle-stem-assembly-spare/?s=Axiom Upper Clamp Assembly: https://garrett.com/store/axiom-upper-stem-clamp-assembly/?s=Axiom Lower CF stem: https://garrett.com/store/axiom-lower-stem-assembly-spare/?s=Axiom Lower Clamp Assembly: https://garrett.com/store/axiom-lower-stem-clamp-assembly/?s=Axiom Oddly the skid plates have prices that don’t make sense, with the 11 x 7 costing more than the 11 x 13. They’re on the main page under the first link above. I won’t link them individually since I think the prices may be an oversight by the site designer. Thanks everyone for keeping tabs on this.
  20. The fact that the MUU isn't even seeing the 900 is serious. You seem to have done all the troubleshooting and recovery. Did it include trying a different USB port? (both front and back if possible). Otherwise, time to contact a Minelab service center.
  21. I just switched over to the 9 from the 8 and have approximately 60 hours on it, in and out of the saltwater, Florida beaches. I can definitely run the 8 inch about 2 to 3 sensitivity points higher in and out of the water. The 9 still alerts to the micro small stuff. It seems I am getting more chatter on the beach but probably because of an increase in swing speed versus being submerged. I don't feel there is a measurable difference how either one glides while in the water. I actually thought the 9 would cut through better because of its design but to me it does not. For separation of multiple targets clustered together the 8 wins.
  22. Yeah, I'm not happy at all. I've tried everything from hard reset on the laptop to going to the update file and doing the whole properties, compatibility, run as administrator yadda yadda yadda....Minelabs own recovery instructions do absolutely nothing. I've worked on this for about 3 hours and I'm at a total loss.
  23. Tried it today now I have a non-functioning detector. Lost power half way through the update, now unit powers on with blank screen, no sound, and when I reload the update file and open the MUU and connect the unit to go through the recovery steps, the MUU does not even recognize the unit. Screen just stays on "Connect a device to check for updates"....nothing happens the unit just sits there with a blinking green light, blank screen, and no sound. At a loss....
  24. That totally sucks! I would call Minelab as soon as possible.. Keep us posted
