  2. Grampas house was torn down 20 years ago, but the land is still in the family. Every now and then I drop by and detect a section of the property. The lot is loaded with old iron. Its a test of my patience detecting there. I was using the Manticore with m8 coil, General program, sens 18, speed @ 8. The quarter was about 6" deep, notice the iron stains. Date is worn off. The button read out in the quarter range, bouncing from 86 -92, 7"-8" deep. My grampa was in world war 1, the button was made by the American button co. The company was in existence from 1902-1920. I have a hunch it came off his army coat, but its only a guess. But its a neat find. The button was in the area of where I remember the clothes line to be. I have also found a crotel bell , and a half dozen wheats. The property has been in the family about 120 years. I'm normally a coinshooter, but these family relics are interesting!. I also have a nice collection of nails and spikes, which I'd rather not find! It comes with the territory.
  3. Doc, Glad to see you have expanded a Prospectors Nugget holder. You certainly have gone through a variety throughout the years. Those old kangaroo scrotum sacks were ideal in the day; they just hang/dangle most everywhere and always gets the craziest looks. On a rare occasion, the ladies would actually go up and touch them.🤣 Below was your design back in the day. Then years later someone upgraded to a more handable style. I feel sorry for the mate who had to go collect a new dozen after selling out.😆 Eventually you changed to the desert green golden clam. I enjoyed it much more often and recommended to many of my customers during our group training session. One issue was color as I actually lost one on the side of a hill one time and it had a half dozen nuggets from Sawtooth. It took me a couple hours to find it, thank the lord. The other issue with the common golden clams is size. On a rare occasion, a guy enjoys a bigger golden clam to hold his trophy. As you can see in the pics, those small ones (even though more convenient most of the time) just quite not a good fit,, especially if rigid and rough, it takes a lot work and time to get it in. I never did get the one below to fit. The yellow version clam... is quite inviting and can easily be seen from distance, but as you see in the pic, even a smooth one with a little more than average size, is a tough fit. Eventually, I managed to work it in, though. I think the old timers would probably have used something similar to this. Not much with girth but the length is manageable to most. Just think how many of those are out there in the field holding someone's nuggets? One of my Field Staff, he's an expert at big and deep. He just carries his around in his hand. As I mentioned, he likes big and deep. This time, he couldn't even carry it around in his hand. You know me, always a mouthful and more than many can handle. On a side note, wonder how much gold this old beauty carried? You disappointed me a little, Doc. So many of your inventions has catchy names. Well, I'm giving you the permission to call than new one "The Golden Clam, it holds a variety of sizes of most Prospectors nuggets". If this does not drum up some business for you my friend, not sure what will. Happy Swinging.

  5. I somehow overlooked your post as well LS. I have had the exact same experience and results as you (and others) with the 13 and in fact for the past several months i have used the nine very little. Also i have found that the weight and profile of the big coil navigates the heavy springtime weeds and ground cover better than the 9 coil. The only caveat being that my right arm looks like Popeyes and is out of whack with the left one. With the ability that the thirteen has to sniff out the small buttons and 22 shorts and other tiny co-mingled targets i'm halfway expecting more 1 dollar gold coins to be found.I like all of the early relics that you dig and that spoon is exceptional! Doc
  6. Thanks ! Im sure there are people here who have dealt with similar conditions. This black sand patch covers about 200km of beaches and very nice resorts who for many years have been undetectable by anybody i know of so they must be loaded . Some people have tried using fisher cz, deus 2, gpz 5000 ,sand shark , many have the ctx but no use . sea hunter works in some patches of sand but like 10% of what i would like to search. Detecting in the morning before sand gets hot does help minelab machines do better but not ideal. I read on alot of post that pi machines that have pulse delay and gb doing better and i just have a flicker of hope . Should of bought a White's TDI BeachHunter when i had the chance just to try it out that would of given me me a rough idea if better pi detector will punch through that sand and remain stable even at low depth settings.
  7. The coil was received at Minelab Americas, and they could not duplicate the issue. I was afraid of that. To thier credit they are sending me a replacement coil. If it works then I will be happy and baffled at the same time. If it does not, the entire detector has to go back. I'm hoping the coil works because if I have to send that detector back my Manticore journey will be off to a very rough start. Fingers crossed.
  8. I like the site terrain pix. It brings the viewer into the lay-of-the-land, the feel, etc....
  9. There are lurkers and watchers of note. Well then maybe this whole thread needs to go away as no longer relevent.
  10. Thanks F350. The ring isn't ferrous at all. Although I would think that if it's a precious metal, it would be marked. I found around 20 TC rings last summer. If I remember correctly, they were all marked to show they were TC. Yes, some say "If you don't dig up all the foil and tabs in park like sites, you'll miss gold rings". While that is technically true, I think it's false when it comes to what's in the pouch at the end of the day. For example, I know that if I wasn't notching, that picture would have a hell of a lot more foil and tabs, and maybe 1 ring. The reason I tried the notching, was because I got fed up with digging so much aluminum trash when looking for gold in trashy park like sites. Using the notch method, I found more rings in 2 hours than I had in about 50 hours of "digging all". Plus, with the notch method I dig a lot less trash per hour, and I'm not wrecking my knees and back. Putting the notching method in a different way: Some very small gold rings and chains can and do ID at 1 number above ferrous (11 on the Legend). However, I've dug hundreds of 11's and only ever got 1 chain...and it was a junker. My parks are blanketed with small foil that ID's at 11. It would be crazy for me to continue digging those. My time would be much better spent, by ignoring 11's and digging numbers which are far more likely to be a ring. Since I'm not wasting time and effort on digging 11's, that should result in more rings. Granted, this was only one experiment, and maybe I just got lucky. I'll be trying out the same method a few times in the next week, so we'll see what happens 🙂
  11. That is an impossibility due to the nature of the beast (zinc penny) I dug one the other day that was in the nickel range 27-28 sounded nice and smooth too...they just degrade too much and maybe the mint has changed the composition of the zinc pennies since they started minting them since around 1982 possibly? strick
  12. Might just be coincidence, but I think Minelab might have seen your frustration - within a few days after you posted this, they fixed the error on the Product Manual & Guides page. It correctly points to the version 2 manual now. It definitely did not when you originally posted.
  13. 🤔 One thing comes to mind for yet another property in the neighborhood. Paraphrasing Oliver from Laurel and Hardy ........ "Well Stanley, here's another fine permission you've gotten yourself into ! " May you live long enough to clean out them all !🖖 Keep it up and you're gonna have to start cloning Chase ! 😜
  14. I was so much in love with the X-Terra 705 after I started learning some of it's capabilities, it's an incredible detector and especially for the price today. Here's a bit of Ring Information that's saved me many pull tabs. Yes I know a select few rings read outside of my Accepted #'s, but I have to play the odds, just like I do when chasing natural gold nuggets and specimens. Yes, a few of the folks say you have to dig it all? I disagree tremendously.
  15. How did I miss this post, LC? 🤔 That is one heck of a site you're on, 13 buttons is a great haul. 👍 It's really an accomplishment (or luck) to come across a whole spoon that old! Good stuff! 👍
  16. Thanx for taking a stab at it anyhow F350-plat ! But as it turns out, I found what I *thought* was the design. Ie.: Where I thought I'd seen it before. I think that I was thinking of this button the east coast guys have some times found : "George Washington Button". But as you see from this pix lifted off of google images, the eagle / motif isn't exactly the same.
  17. El, good to hear from you ! I just now found what I *thought* was the motif eagle. It's on what some east coast guys have found. The "GW button" (George Washington button) . But as you can see here, it's not an exact match. Doh !
  18. Reese, you have more guts than I do. Really like your book. Jim
  19. My Equinox 600 gets real chatty on black sand, but my Tarsacci is whispery quiet. Doesn't seem to affect the depth much either. Your conditions look extreme, so I'm not sure you'll get the same results...good luck!
  20. Very nice ring Tom, It's not a "heraldic" eagle as there is no olive branch or clutch of arrows. I would say it's not military. It looks like a one-off custom cast, are there any hallmarks or makers marks inside? Side view would help. I searched the heck out of this one and sadly found nothing.
  21. The shaving of the edges is exactly what I did to solve the problem there... Works fine.
  22. If you mean shaving off the sharp arriss or edge at the top of each side of the coil cover, where the charging clip goes - I strongly recommend this. A simple mod makes putting the charging clip on very much easier. I think the main problem with the XP charging clip is that the USB socket allows the USB plug to 'waggle' in it a bit.
  23. Just back to add that using the WS6 V1 mount on my Deus Lite setup was and is a smashing success, I used the 13" coil with the RC much more but what a relief to take a light break now and again! I probably should have used the 11" in the sand to get a little more depth but it was a welcome break. The vinyl cover I made worked perfectly and protected the module from the ravages of sticky coral sand. 👍 In addition, the leg stand that a person named Eric made and sold me on on eBay was perfect for keeping the detector from blowing away on the windiest day.
  24. Again thanks to Rattlehead for this find, used it for a week at the beach and so far I find it quite the improvement, especially the right angle orientation of the plug which greatly enhances inserting it. 👍 Thanks to XP for this option. 🙂 I've been using a Detecting Doodads voltage display charging clip on my coil, and it has performed flawlessly for over 2 years now as long as I pay attention to orientation. Sadly, they are no longer offered, and as yet no one has picked up the gauntlet nor improved on it. 😢
