  1. In general I just feel sorry for people like that. How sad their lives must be, their craving for attention, that they feel a need to try and impress people with fake finds. The ones that do it to make money… that’s just fraud, and they are thieves. Prosecute them. The ones that are just doing it for attention though, well, I hope they can find some other way to fill that empty hole in their lives. Even the thieves - not for one second would I want to trade my life for theirs. Broken people.
  2. 90%+ chance you have a dud. The Axiom will ground balance to a wider range than the 6000 or 7000. Not sure about 4500 or SDC though. But that in itself is not good being a dud - quality control lacking? I hope it gets sorted out to your satisfaction. At the very least, you already have machines you know will work.
  3. To Utilize Iron Check: • Move the searchcoil to the side of the target. • Press and hold the IRON CHECK button and wait for a double-beep. • Then continue holding the IRON CHECK button while repeatedly scanning back and forth completely past the target with very flat, level swings. • If desired, check the target again from different directions by rotating around 90 degrees. Maintain very flat, level swings over the target. • Iron will produce a very low-tone buzz sound that may or may not be flanked by normal tones. • Non-ferrous and/or weak targets will produce normal tones, or may even be silent, but typically won’t produce the iron tone (buzz). In highly mineralized areas, Iron Check accuracy may be affected. The more mineralized the ground, the more likely it is that a weak gold nugget signal (small nugget or large deep nugget) will misidentify as ferrous. Do not become overly reliant in this feature while nugget detecting. Whenever possible dig all targets.
  4. You already had posts so not needed, but welcome anyway. Lurking is fine. I'm just sorting out the accounts that have zero posts.
  5. It appears the old Treasurelinx site is hosted at Geotech now…. https://treasurelinx.geotech1.com/Main/index.html
  6. Hopefully not much longer for the 6” concentric. I’m also disappointed it’s been taking this long, but it’s fair to say they got sidetracked by the Axiom release. Not saying that’s right, just the way it is. Getting coils out in a timely fashion for new detectors seems to challenge everyone but Nokta, though gotta say that with six coils at release Garrett did well with Axiom. But again, I think the 24K got the back seat due to that. I also tend to think the market for dedicated VLF nugget hunters is drying up, which is not helping either. Garrett may very well end up selling more Axioms than 24Ks.
  7. Just sticking to the original question I’ll be simplistic about it. If I needed the detector to be fully submersible I’d get the AT Max. If not, I’d get the Vanquish 540, which is basically a stripped down Equinox in a dry land package. With either model take care of the battery issue by using AA rechargeable batteries.
  8. I've tried lots of pinpointers over the years but seem to keep coming back to the Garrett Carrot. My second place favorite is the Fisher F-Pulse. I actually was favoring the F-Pulse but mine died so I went back to my old AT Pro-Pointer. There are already 8 pages of threads on the forum about "Which pinpointer is best" so might have a look at those also.
  9. OK, if you go to the Download Category List and look at bottom you will see two categories, 3D Printer Files and Metal Detector Settings The detector settings area is an old one, was set up more for detectors like the CTX and V3i but no reason why it can't work for others. main problem was I was not allowing direct member uploads - everything had to go through me for submission. As a result it languished Now that we have a more vetted Full Member level, I am allowing Full Members to not only download but to upload files in these two areas. Hopefully this will help facilitate things. Let me know how it goes as I may need to tweak something. Right now I have set it to allow eight 3D file extensions: fbx 3ds obj stl iges dae 3mf stp Too many? Too few? Are there any security risks with any to be aware of? I'm a newbie at this 3D printer stuff for sure, but as they get better and cheaper I can see myself having a new hobby. Again, let me know if it works, does not work, if you need help, whatever. Thanks!
  10. You have 66 posts so it’s not needed but good to see you post anyway. It’s only for people who have never posted ever, at any time, since joining the forum.
  11. Yeah I did say I would, and got sidetracked by my efforts to thwart the spammers. By end of tomorrow, I promise.
  12. Stuff comes with other stuff or does not. Read the product description and know what you are buying. If you don't like what you are buying, don't buy it. The poll options don't fit me because I don't buy things without knowing what I am buying, and when I then buy, I've got nothing to complain about. I don't "expect" anything from anyone... I just deal with things as they are. I don't care if coils come with covers or not as long as I am not paying for a cover I am not getting. As long as it is properly explained that the coil does not come with a cover, then I have the choice of getting one or not. If I have to pay extra to get a coil cover with a coil that I do not want or need, then I really don't need it forced on me. If I already have a 13" DD coil that came with the detector and that has the included scuff cover, then I do not really need another scuff cover for a 13" mono if I want to share the cover between both coils. Me, I'd personally rather have a cover on all my coils just for convenience. On the other hand, I’m going to use the 16” mono without a coil cover. It’s super unlikely I’ll use the coil enough to actually wear a hole in the bottom, and I don’t want to swing the extra weight. So no, don’t charge me extra for a cover I don’t need. I'm all about having choices, and for me the key question is am I being charged for a coil cover, but not getting it? If the answer is no, then I am fine. If I am being charged for the cover when I am sold the coil, and not getting it, then I am not fine at all. I would assume coils that do not include scuff covers are being sold for a lower price than they would be if they included covers, and if that is the case, do I want to pay more for all coils just to get covers on all coils? No, I'd rather have the coils be lower prices, with covers optional. Never assume. Avoid disappointment by doing your research. Know what you are buying before you buy it.
  13. Welcome to the forum. Google is your friend.... https://www.minelab.com/__files/f/4111/Inst Manual GP3000 Website.pdf
  14. I agree. I keep the 24K around but did not actually use it once last year.
  15. You know, that's a good question. The Gold Kruzer is a great model that should be listed in the same breath as these other higher frequency detector. But I'm guilty of forgetting and overlooking it and the same can be said I think of the machine in the general market. I had to look and confirm just now that it had not been discontinued (it has not) since Nokta has discontinued almost all their older models since the Simplex and Legend came out. I don't know any nugget hunters in the U.S. that use the machine although I know Nenad in Oz is a huge fan. The only users here seem to be jewelry hunters? But yeah, why did the Gold Kruzer never seem to gain any serious traction in the U.S. at least? I honestly don't know, other than to guess the Gold Monster slaughtered it due to the Minelab name and marketing muscle.
  16. Companies like Fisher that still make analog models originally designed decades ago (Gold Bug 2 in 1995) face issues as analog components go out of manufacture. Literally obsolete technology. So a little know fact is all these old units have continual component changes made as parts supplies change from on outfit to another. Eventually a certain part simply cannot be had any longer, and a more serious design change is forced to occur, or in worst case scenario, the product must be discontinued. For a very long time the Gold Bug 2 was a bread and butter model for me as a dealer in Alaska. I owned the first one in Alaska and sold piles of them as it was perfect for the generally low mineral small gold situation in Southcentral Alaska. As an old timer I still have great appreciation for the machine. But the fact is my old dealership no longer even stocks it. Why? No interest. People look at newer models like the Gold Monster that is practically fully automatic and more or less waterproof, and they want and buy those newer models. For people like me manual ground balance comes naturally and I actually prefer it. But trust me, most people can't actually do it well and it was my main problem/complaint from customers the Gold Bug 2 - false signals and holes dug where no target exists due to being out of ground balance. Newbies get frustrated very fast with it, and so again, new models with ground grab or ground tracking eliminate this issue, not just for the buyer, but for the dealer who has to answer to the complaining customer. I still think the Gold Bug 2 represents one of the best detector designs ever created, a true classic, and one that can really perform in the right hands. But it does not sell well any more for the reasons I have mentioned and the days are numbered before it is eventually discontinued.
  17. “A museum in Maine is offering $25,000 for the remains of a space rock that streaked across the sky last week before landing near the border between the United States and Canada. Darryl Pitt, head of the meteorite division at the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum, said he was keen to study any fragments of the meteorite, which could contain valuable information about the solar system. The $25,000 reward is for the first meteorite piece found that weighs 2.2 pounds (1 kilogram) or more. However, he said the museum would be willing to pay for any specimen “irrespective of its size.”“ Full story with map to start your hunt! https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/12/americas/meteorite-maine-museum-reward-scn/index.html
  18. One of the best things about metal detecting is the places it can take you.... Alaska Arizona Australia California England Hawaii Nevada
  19. A person just reported trying to register, and a box popping up and asking for a credit card number for "verification". That IS NOT anything to do with this website and if anyone gets such a thing, then your system has been infected with a virus or malware. The only thing required to register here is an email address. Which I never give to anyone, ever.

  21. I just tried my Universal Pro Golds (previously called the CTX version) on my Axiom with the WR-1. I set the headphone volume knobs on full and then set the detector volume at a reasonable level of loud but not too loud. For my ear at least that ended up being 15 out of possible 25, so quite a bit of room left to go higher. I normally run the detector volume on max and adjust the headphone volume, but did it this way so there would be a number to refer to rather than "knob set at 3/4" or some such thing. CTX adjust switch is loudest at center setting, quieter at bottom setting, and silent on top setting.
  22. I don’t know what to say except that the Sun Ray works very well for me. Probably the last wired model I’ll ever own, since my old set keeps on going, and I have a brand new pair already waiting in line in case the old ones ever die. Be sure to get the special universal version that will work in any metal detector made. A bonus with the Sun Ray is leather muffs instead of sweaty vinyl. But mainly really great hearing aid certified audio From Amazon
  23. If you compare all detectors on the market it is like comparing all cars on the market. It can get confusing comparing Chevy to Subaru to Hyundai to Honda to Ford. The Apex is priced relative to other Garrett models and for where it fits in their lineup, and if you want to know what the deal is, you look at their lineup and prices. Same as you would do with the other companies. It's Garrett's opinion that the Apex fits in just above the Ace 400 but below the AT Gold in their product line. As a long time retailer I will say this. People in general go low end (the budget buyer) or high end (money does not matter). The area in the middle was never what sold for me. Too expensive for the budget person, not featured enough for the power user. The Apex sits squarely in that middle of the road zone and pleases neither group. I think however that it all basically misses the point and misunderstands what is really going on, which is that Apex is just a toe in the water for things to come.
  24. As a high end user I wish the Ace Apex had more horsepower, and look forward to a future model that does. It is an Ace model though and Garrett is in no way overselling it as being anything but that. I do very much appreciate it's physical design however, as it is close to what seems perfect to me. Very solid, easy to swing, compact control box with large visible display that is easy to navigate, good affordable coil options, rechargeable, wireless, etc.
  25. This is a brand specific forum for people who own and appreciate Garrett metal detectors, or who want to learn more about them. It is not for people to point out how they think some other brand is a better choice. We have a forum for advice, criticism and comparing, the Metal Detector Advice & Comparisons Forum so take it there if that is what you want to do. This applies to all the brand specific forums in general - dropping in on them to say that brand or model sucks will be considered trolling, and such posts moved or deleted. Let people enjoy what they have without the negative commentary please. I don't go to the Ford Forum to tell them they should should have bought a Subaru, and the same general rule apples here when on a brand forum, be it Garrett, Nokta, Minelab, or whatever.
