  1. Finally took a look - awesome! Smooth as butter on my iPad Pro and Safari, but slight jerkiness running Chrome on same iPad. Dolphin and Atomic Web browsers on same iPad same as Chrome. Chrome etc. have not yet been optimized for the latest version of iOS.
  2. Full hour episode published September 2016. "Meteorite Hunters: Just Give us Some Space!" is a full length documentary that follows treasure hunters (team Dirt Fishin America's Dr.Tones and Pickhead) around the country in search of priceless space rocks. The team meets up with world famous meteorite hunter Geoff Notkin to learn how to find meteorites before they set out in search for a meteorite of their own. Metal detectors, magnets and all sorts of adventure.
  3. A decorative ring has been found in the Nottinghamshire woodlands by an amateur detectorist. "Mark Thompson, who spray paints fork lift trucks, was in the famous Nottinghamshire woodland for just 20 minutes when his metal detector sounded. The 34-year-old, who had only taken up the hobby 18 months ago, was expecting to find something innocuous. But as he shovelled the dirt, a glint of gold emerged on ornate piece of jewellery with a precious sapphire. Auctioneers have since told him that the precious ring could fetch between £20,000 and £70,000." The rest of the story and lots of great photos at https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2435181/robin-hood-sherwood-forest-medieval-ring-found/
  4. Jason, the link to the forum with the info you seek is in the first post on this thread. The battery was supposed to be in the control box. Then on top of the control box. It changed again after that I believe but I have not kept up.
  5. The difference is XP is a metal detectors company with a proven track record of delivering product. V4 may be delayed but you can rest assured it will arrive and it will work. With a new guy on the block trying to prove their stuff however the old rule still applies - first impressions matter.
  6. I don't know that it has gone unnoticed at all Robby just that few people here are very concerned about any of this. The QED shows up and proves it's worth or it does not. This thing has been years in the making. In my opinion to announce the unit is ready for sale, and then reveal that something as basic as what type of battery will be used and where that battery will be located was not thought out, was a very amateurish move and reflects poorly on the credibility of the project. Dave made the same mistake over and over with the Pulse Devil. At least some fully ready working units should have been ready for immediate distribution to testers or purchasers before making the announcement. I was ready to buy the control box only version and sent an email saying just that. I figured it was inexpensive enough a gamble for me to just give it a go and be able to report to forum members what I thought. Then I find out no units available, still trying to decide what battery to use and where it will be located... and now I just don't care. I will just forget about the whole thing until something firm develops and somebody else gets one and reports on it. And that in a nutshell is how they take a person like me that was trying to be fair and open minded and just shut me down.
  7. I can't answer your question from a technical point of view but this new user video review might. Check it out starting at 12:00 point to get to the action. I think the main value in the PRO-SONIC is for SDC-2300 owners in particular due to the included adapter cable and the fact that the external speaker on the SDC is on the weak side when it comes to audio output.
  8. White's DFX with BigFoot coil. Covers sports fields etc. rapidly recovering shallow targets not only due to 18" sweep but its near instant pinpoint capability. DFX SignGraph display nails rings, all the notching I might want for pesky trash, and 15 KHz native VDI mode spreads the gold/aluminum responses apart. In theory I like the V3i better but the reality for me has been the DFX just gets the job done with less fuss. The only reason I own the machine is to run the Big Foot - I sold the other coils. Runner up Makro Gold Racer, tot lots, micro jewelry, etc. Like owning a White's GMT with full target ID.
  9. Awesome answer Brian - thanks! I also wanted to point out the Minelab page aimed at stopping counterfeit products from falling into people's hands. You can enter model and serial number information online to verify your product, but I don't think it will tell you manufacture date. Still handy though, especially if buying used. http://www.minelab.com/usa/customer-care/stop-counterfeits
  10. First Texas Products Again Successful Against CounterfeitersEl Paso, Texas, Sept. 25, 2014 -- Following on its September 2013 counterfeit raid and confiscation, First Texas Products, LLC, was again successful in penetrating a counterfeit distribution organization operating in the United Arab Emirates, resulting in the raid and confiscation of Teknetics® and Fisher® Research Labs metal detectors."Following on our successful 2013 raid, the worldwide leader in gold detection technology again apprehended the counterfeiters," said Tim Mallory, First Texas Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Our determination to close down the illegal retailers, distributors and manufacturers continues to be as aggressive as ever,” he said.A Sudanese national reputed to have operations in Dubai and Ajman was arrested at an Ajman warehouse facility where Chinese-origin counterfeit Teknetics T2 and Fisher Gold Bug® gold detectors were being assembled, packaged and distributed.Tom Walsh, Chief Executive Officer of First Texas Products, said the ongoing anti-counterfeit operations in the UAE and Africa have made it more difficult for counterfeiters to operate. “We will stop at nothing to protect our intellectual property rights and defend our market position in the UAE and across the African continent,” Walsh said. “First Texas Products will not be hindered in the pursuit and prosecution of counterfeiters. And First Texas will continue to pay for information leading to the arrest of counterfeiters and the confiscation of their illegal wares.”According to Mr. Mallory, “counterfeit Teknetics® and Fisher® products have been distributed in Dubai since 2009. Innocent and unsuspecting African miners suffer the consequences of counterfeit distribution. Our anti-counterfeiting programs seek not only to prosecute fraud; we also educate retailers and end users on the economic and legal risks inherent in counterfeiting. This seizure of counterfeited products of two of our strongest brands reinforces our resolve.”Following this successful operation, an unrelated raid on smuggled counterfeit detectors was reported by the Sudanese General Customs Administration in West Omdurman, Sudan on Sept. 15, 2014. Thousands of counterfeit gold detectors were seized in that anti-smuggling operation. According to Mr. Mallory, “market intelligence leads us to believe that these counterfeit operations were related to one another.”The Dubai Gold Souk is the primary destination for gold unearthed by African artisanal miners. Dubai's leading gold market position has established it as the major transit point and distribution hub for gold prospecting equipment destined for African and Asian markets. Counterfeiters attempt to infiltrate the Dubai market and distribute counterfeit detectors through both clandestine and authentic distribution channels. https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/10993-list-of-legitimate-metal-detector-dealers/
  11. I have bought very many used detectors and getting them serviced has not been an issue for me. If they worked when I bought them they kept working, so I think the risk buying a used SD 2100 is minimal as long as it is functional when purchased. Still, whether a machine can be serviced is important and you have to decide for yourself in that regard if you want to run the risk. Putiing the service issue aside I would personally always choose an SD2100 over an Infinium unless I needed the detector to be waterproof.
  12. This is the odd part. Rob says guy shares photo with him, wants it posted nowhere else so Rob watermarks photo. Now turns out photo given to Minelab back in November, sharing everywhere not an issue. I would never question Rob's honesty but I am not quite so sure now about what he has been told.
  13. The thread says they are thinking of getting a dozer so no?
  14. Rob has posted a photo of a 1.2 kilogram (38 Troy ounce) nugget found recently with a GPZ somewhere in the Southwest U.S.
  15. I don't think they ever made one for the Infinium, though there is an 8" mono cover available for the ATX. I do not know if it will fit the Infinium 8" mono for sure but you would think they would have used the same mold for the coils. I see people have used a frisbee with good results http://metaldetectingforum.com/showthread.php?t=198088
  16. Mine is weird - some stuff I remember great, like facts/figures. People’s names, forget it! I added a hard to find copy of the standard White's VDI chart to my post. Very informative and shows something I mention often i.e. small gold nuggets and other small gold and platinum items (thin chains, small ear rings, etc) will read as ferrous, especially in bad ground. Basically, gold runs the full range of the scale, the larger the gold item, the higher the VDI numbers. I usually take the dummy approach when digging jewelry and just dig all non-ferrous, and if anything might notch out zinc penny and higher. But then I would miss silver jewelry like the ring found at the start of this thread.
  17. On most White's units including the V3i a $20 gold coin reads near Quarter (VDI 85), $10 gold coin near Zinc Penny (VDI 65), $5 gold coin near Screwcap (VDI 53), $2-1/2 gold coin above nickel in Pull Tab range (VDI 32), and $1 gold coin just below nickel (VDI 19). The VDI numbers are approximate depending on depth and mineralization and will vary.
  18. Honestly, you are getting depths far in excess of what I would expect in my ground. 12" to 14" on small silver coins is about as good as anyone can hope for with any VLF detector. Just my opinion - I am sure there are others.
  19. Here is your ring on the James Avery website - Woven Wedding Band It should clean up nice, congratulations on the find!
  20. Lots of great minerals in Wyoming - nice finds! I have been threatening to make more time to go look for things other than gold but it is hard for me to do when gold can be found. I think one of my new year resolutions will have to be to make at least one expedition at least this year with something in mind other than gold. 21. Beach mining is something I thought about constant times over the years, but I never did do it really. Just one trip to a beach once where I panned a couple specs. Alaska has perhaps the most famous gold beach in the world at Nome, but there are very many other beach deposits all around the state. I traveled the state a lot and have been to Nome and Yakataga but never set foot on the beaches. 22. You may have noticed when digging around old cabins or campsites that Hills Brothers coffee cans are pretty common. It turns out they can be used to get a rough idea of when the site was in use by noting slight differences in the designs of the cans over time. It was so useful in Alaska that BLM put together a booklet showing can designs from 1900 - 1963 that they could use as an aid in dating Alaska cabin sites. You can download it for free at https://www.blm.gov/style/medialib/blm/ak/aktest/ofr.Par.57416.File.dat/CoffeeCanFieldBook_web.pdf
  23. Evo coils are made by Nugget Finder, not Minelab. I think Minelab deserves grief for some things but not stuff they don't even make!
