Great vids thanks a lot Rattlehead , a very serious and honest field test + side by side comparison between the Mcore , the Deus2 and the CTX . Well it looks like depth perfos are almost identical between the Mcore and the D2 set on DHC , this can be seen on the 1st vid at 2.22 on the Mercury dime , where both detectors are at their depth limits . I would say that the Mcore goes slightly deeper than the D2 , but the D2 is much lighter than the Mcore and the D2 WS6 master "Lite" version is half the price of a Mcore ... Then I have no concern for XP they will sell their D2s 🙂... The same for ML and the Mcore which seems to be a very good detector too 🙂...

This morning my cousin invited me for an outing in a small forest 2 or 3 kms far from from a little town. The forest surface is around 80 acres and belongs to the city . As there were a few soldiers camps during the 1st WW it is a good place for finding 1st WW relics like buttons , badges ... Unfortunately there is a lot of 1st WW artillery rubbish like shell fragments which are tough to detect .. We arrived at around 3PM and we started detecting , me with my trusty Deus2 WS6 and my cousin with his Deus1 WS5. As there were woodcutters working we could not go where we initially planned and had to go to a less interesting area a little away from the camps . This is probably why we found almost nothing during the 1st hour except these bloody shell fragments 🤢 . Just to explain , at the end of 1918 the Germans were running short of steel and their shells were made from an "ersatz" material made of a mix of zinc and other crap metals . The pb is that these fragments are conductive and there are plenty of them , small and big ones , and no other choice than digging them as they sound as good targets ... After one hour and half I was a little disappointed and I was going to have a rest when I heard a very clean high tone signal . I dug it , I saw a big rectangular shape and I immediately recognized a German belt buckle ,awesome .. 👌🤩 🙃 😺... Wow I havent found one since 2 or 3 years , and this one is very nice ... My cousin is a 1st WW specialist and identifies it as a Prussian mod 1847 belt buckle , probably been lost by a German soldier in 1918 . Buckles are quite rare and usually we have to find many buttons before finding a buckle . But for some reason , today we only found this splendid buckle and nothing else .. My D2 settings are still the same btw ; SENSITIVE nr 2 mode , 5 tones , SQUARE It was a sunny day at a very nice place , we will be back ... 🙂 The area , a little forest near a small town, my cousin in the path with his Deus1 : Me and my buckle : Prussian mod 1847 belt buckle : After a little cleaning : Back to my cousin's car : Landscape view , the forest on the left : German "ersatz" shell fragments . There are plenty of them in the area , no other choice than digging them ...

I like the rectangular telescopic shaft , the stems dont rotate when you adjust them , I wonder why ML has not used this design for the MCore or Equinox 700/900 btw ...

Look at this thread :

Very good choice cliff490 you cant go wrong with the D2 which is an excellent detector ... I would just suggest to start with the mode nr1 GENERAL which is dedicated to new D2 users . Spend 10 or 15 hours with the GENERAL factory settings ( PWM audio ), then try the SQUARE audio that you may prefer to PWM because it is closer to the MLs audio . When you are ok with GENERAL you might change for nr2 SENSITIVE which is more reactive and faster in iron trashed areas . Of course there are other modes/settings to try when you are more experienced with the detector ... Hope that helps ..

I would have preferred more detectors audio and less operators discussions or comments . We almost never hear the detector in the field test video ... 🤢 Why dont they focus on the detector rather than on the operators ? ... At least we can see its color lol ... This is often the pb with detecting vids btw ...

I detect in France where some areas are probably more iron trashed than in the US . Looking to the pic above I see nails , you should never detect nails with the D2 using the factory modes ( except the All metal modes of course like RELIC or GOLD ) , then I suppose that you use a wrong setting or the machine is faulty . Which D2 mode are you using ?

Actually I just need a good audio and I dont need VDIs , as we have for example coins ranging from 0,5 to 10g over here , then almost all conductivities even low ones can be good targets ... VDIs are not as important here in Europe as they are in the US

Small screens are lighter than big ones . I like the V60/V80 compact screen .. Bigger is not always better .. Greetings from France ..

Yes but in case of a detector failure I wonder how it will go , my seller is not very positive about the Quest after service . On the other hand I have never had a pb with either the X5 or the Q30+ , they are very well designed and reliable . This will probably be the same with the new V60/V80 ...
-
The after service and accessories availaibility is currently a downside of the Quest brand, even in Europe . For example I wanted to buy a 9X5 coil for my Q30+ . I never succeeded , the coil is not available in France , and not even in the Netherlands . I hope it will improve with the new V60/V80 models ...

At least they have a beautiful web page for their new machine ... : Quest |V serious metal detector for the pro (questmetaldetectors.com

I have tested the X5 and Q30+ . The X5 is the perfect machine for a beginner , I like this detector . The Q30+ is more sophisticated with wireless headphones . Both detectors are fast and reactive , easy to use , Quest knows how to make detectors ... Curious to see their new models . They will have to be very performing because of the competition , ML , XP , Nokta etc...

The Profind35 has a bad reputation even over here in France ... My dealer told me that it is rubbish and doesnt want to sell them anymore . For some reason I have never had any issue with mine , may be I am lucky ... 🙂 Now I use a Quest Xpointer Max , for me the best pinpointer I have ever used . Lithium embedded battery, iron disc , small digital display . Very reliable and compact . However I have never tested it with a Mcore .

I would try with a detector designed for high iron trashed areas , a Teknetics , Tesoro , Deus1 or 2 for example . Personally I dont put up with the chatty MLs ( Equinox , Vanquish etc .. ) in the irons and especially these high tones "signals" which sound like good targets and disappear with the next coil sweepings that we clearly hear in your video ... Horrible ... 🙂

Are The Minelab Manticore Users Just Beta Testers?
palzynski replied to George Kinsey's topic in Minelab Manticore Forum
Yes but with a Deus ( 1 or 2 ) , the machine is already excellent in the irons using the default modes , this without having to change any setting and to spend hours to find the best settings . Going a little off topic as it is not a Detector comparison thread but I could not resist to react to this ... Just my two cents too ... 🙂 -
A little late on this thread but personally I would buy the 11 coil because it is 100g lighter than the 13 X 11 and 100g less at the shaft end makes a big difference for me ... Coils and Coil covers | XP METAL DETECTORS

Nice pics thx. It recalls me the 1990s when I went several times for windsurfing at Tarifa ... Very nice area ...

Over here in France the soil is low or moderately mineralized, ground balancing doesnt change anything the detectors are already stable with their default fixed GB setting . I have done bed tests ( moderately mineralized soil) comparing the depth and stability without GB and with GB . There is definitely a slight improvement when doing the GB but I prefer to save time in the field and the default fixed GB setting works very well for me for me at least for XP ( D1 and D2 ) or ML ( Equinox 800 ) ..

Just for info , a silver dollar is accepted by the 705 , but several silver dollars are rejected because they fall in the 48 notch ... 🤢 I accidentally discovered this after a few months of use with my Xterra 705 ... Of course I have modified the preset to accept this 48 notch , so that it would accept a potential hoard or a coin spill . I did not find any hoard despite the modif but this is an other story ... 🙂

Personally I know within a few hours ( 10-15 hours ) if a detector is for me or not . This is what happened with the D2 last year when I tested it in March , I very quickly knew that it was a machine for me . Probably my long experience with detectors helps though ...
-
The D2 menu design is a little tricky but as I have found the right settings for me ( SENSITIVE + SQUARE ) and I wont change them during the next 10 years , it is not a pb for me ... 🙂 Btw the D2 is a piece of cake compared to my Sony A6000 camera ergonomy lol ... 🙂
-
Yes as Steve said , a detector audio is a very individual thing . Even for the D2's users where some prefer the PITCH audio , others PWM , and others SQUARE ... The good thing is to be able to choose what you like ... I'll shut up too now 🙂 ..
