Power Lines And Detectors Pre The GPZ And SDC
normmcq replied to Northeast's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
I have hunted some areas in Arizona with the Zed that were almost under high voltage lines. The same area with my GPX 4K, I had to stay several hundred feet awayand sometimes run in cancel. I never found gold there with the 4K, but found several pieces with the 7K. I always ran the 7K in HY normal there. NormMcQ -

Nice finds Mitchel It is amazing what you can find what you can find when you have confidence in your equipment and know there is gold in the area.
-
Scott There are a lot of choke cherries out there also, they say they make good wine!

Steve You are right about Lucky, If he gives you the pointy finger, you had better go slow and low, there's gold to be found there!

Didn't have the problem myself, but my friend did. Machine ran quiet and stable for a few minutes and then everything was bad, We traded machines, I thought maybe it was his settings or maybe?????? I had the same problem with his 7K as he did. Then we changed coils, both machines started out quiet and stable. After about five minutes my machine became almost unusable and his remained normal. He contacted Minelab and they replaced the coil under warranty. Now his machine is functioning normal. You are not the only one! NormMcQ

Drug Cartels In Plumas National Forest
normmcq replied to Sourdough Scott's topic in Detector Prospector Forum
I haven't seen an actual pot farm, but I have found at least three different irrigation systems while out detecting on the West side of Plumas National Forrest. I immediately left the area and reported my finds to the County Sheriff. Needless to say, I was very nervous until I reached the safety of my vehicle. Pay particular attention when you are in an area that has running water for black plastic pipe. They always try to hide it, but usually don't do a good job of it. If you see some, just leave the area. Be safe out there Norm -
Ok, Klunker, The Steel Pan?
normmcq replied to YubaJ's topic in Gold Panning, Sluicing, Dredging, Drywashing, Etc
Klunker I wouldn't give up any secrets yet. The earlier version of the depth enhancer seemed to work better, but it just might have been the ground you tried it in. Looking forward to the next test. Norm McQ -

Missing Gold In " Difficult Ground Type" GPZ
normmcq replied to hawkeye's topic in Minelab Metal Detectors
I totally agree with the normal versus difficult settings. I was in Northern Nevada over a year ago trying to learn what worked best. I was in an area that I knew was productive and was experimenting with different settings. There had been quite a bit of precipitation in Northern Nevada and the alkaline soils were hard to deal with. I switched my Zed to normal and had to lower the sensitivity some to have some stability in the threshold. It wasn't too long before I got an iffy signal, I switched back to difficult and it was gone. Now I was very curious, I started scraping the soil off and switching back and forth between settings and scraping. I was down at least three inches before I could hear the signal in difficult, it ended up being a 2.52 dwt piece down about 15 inches. I'll stay in normal and make other adjustments to be there -

East Texas Chris The roads are much worse in the Canadian Provinces than when you actually get into Alaska. It is much better to follow someone, and pay close attention to how their vehicle handles the bumps, swerves, brake lights or any other clues you can observe. They usually place a small red flag on the side of the road that has damage. That does not hold water in all cases. Sometimes they have made repairs and leave the flags, or a bad place with no flags. I personally would not drive at night just because of the road conditions. Just take your time and enjoy the trip. Take Klunker with you. Might be some gold left in California for the rest of us. lol Norm McQ
