  1. Well done on the finding. I know a beach they want you to stay off of because they groom it at night. They would let me stay down near the water so I was ok with that. They had some night surfers they let use the beach also. The last couple of sunsets with the waves very small I've been fishing catching yellowfin croaker and I've caught my first couple of perch.
  2. Great looking chain. I've been stumped by all the jewelry marks also. Numbers vs ks is some sort of indicator. I have little going on up here with the extreme tides but I saw 7 detectorists with their lights on the beaches I go to. I went to another beach that had no detectorists but also no targets!
  3. Thanks for posting Joe. Things are better when you post. Mitchel
  4. You know part of the problem has to be that Skip suffered the loss of his home and I imagine his computers. He was doing the bulk of the administration as far back as I can remember. Maybe the way to get it back up and running is to help Skip a bit more and then make arrangements with Bill to archive the data in some way. It was using the same/similar format software as is used here. I'm sure it is simpler said than done.
  5. Here is a guy who was out in the storm on the canyon trail!
  6. I put a lot of content on Bill's forum over the years. I knew as other forums left his would be too much to keep online. This is really only my 3rd forum. The first was Chris Gholson's. I had lots of beach hunts, meteorites and nuggets on each of them. I think I still have most of the pictures even after a couple of computer crashes but not the posts.
  7. Ah Gerry ... you did it again! That is a mouthful. WTG It makes me hungry. Mitchel
  8. It just made landfall too far south and with the counterclockwise rotation there was not enough open water to push or create swells. You seem to have found a vortex rather than an offshore wind like some of the places up here.
  9. Good production from a weird storm. It shows that pockets form in many places. I'm like Joe. My beaches didn't give up coins or jewelry, but I have to admit I didn't hit any beaches south of Long Beach. I didn't know where to go so I stayed with the family.
  10. Rick, How long have you used a Nexus? What would you say is different about the v3 from your models? Looking at all your other detectors, how do you rate the Nexus? If you have previously answered these questions can you point me to the thread or site? Mitchel
  11. That is a good question. I've just seen some of the relic videos but nothing about nuggets.
  12. Does anyone know if this was a specimen or a solid? I've only been in the Piru area looking for gold one or two times over 10 years ago. I was told I would get into trouble there because they were protecting an invasive frog. I didn't know where to go. This history seems to say. Has anyone been there and had success? I've heard a few stories about people sneaking into some areas but don't know the details. SCVHistory.com | The Story Of Our Valley by A.B. Perkins | Part 5: Mining.
  13. I wasn't able to watch all of this video with the sound on but it is rather intriguing.
  14. My hunt was awful in Santa Monica Bay and the cams this morning to the south were very disappointing. This storm has not produced any beach erosion in SoCal. I didn't track the storm last fall but it just must have been more offshore to put gold in so many scoops.
  15. Ah ... my new look seems to show some energy was sent off this storm before it tucked into Baja California and there may be some beaches to the north that will benefit. I'm going out now to see.
  16. My surf reports say surf will increase for only a brief time on Sunday and the energy is low even in San Diego. If this storm was more offshore, we would get more energy because of the counterclockwise rotation. I was ready to drive south but now I think as Compass that conditions are not very favorable, especially any place north of Long Beach.
  17. That's a beauty. I'd get excited too! My find early this morning was a cheap imitation silver ring. You are going to get some company down your way when the hurricane/tropical storm comes in Sunday-Tuesday.
  18. This site is good for giving you an idea of the differences in meteorites especially the NWAs. I saw many of those at the Tucson Gem and Mineral shows years back.
  19. I've bought a few meteorites and I've found many. This site has meteorites for sale and maybe you would want one? Buy Meteorite Specimens Online | Treasures Auctions
  20. I've read this story a couple of times and I think the semantics of asteroid vs meteorite is probably a matter of size. In any event, this mapping of a zone of impact says it is the largest known. I'd say we need to check the oceans. This structure is not too far from Northeast. Maybe he can tell us more. The largest known asteroid impact structure on Earth is buried in southeast Australia, new evidence suggests (msn.com)
  21. Ah, some nuggets to break up the skiing. That was a great little report. Is JW going to send his coil back?
  22. Thanks for posting. I got started in this game a little too late to have many great finds. I had never done it until 2010. I hope more people post what they found in the past. This will be the only clues left in a few years. We hear from a few of our friends the stories about what was once there and we wonder. We wonder how much of the story is true and how much fun someone had doing it. Naturally many loners kept the best spots to themselves. It would be a great thing if more people showed what was there for the first metal detectorists. Time has passed and before we all pass, and all the secrets go with us I hope we share a few pictures of the gold we have found. Kids and family may get an interest in the finds many years from now and a picture with a few words will help the legacy.
  23. I think the reason why it is so expensive is that it is listed by a PAWN SHOP. I went into the Pawn Stars shop a couple of times in the past and no matter what I looked at (pool cues or metal detectors), the asking price exceeded the value in my opinion. I didn't buy anything.
  24. Is the social influencer giving dating and marriage advice? That is quite a hissy fit put on by the guy. Her followers might tell her to drop him like he did her ring! Good recovery.
  25. Last night I just had to get OUT and detect. We haven't had many waves but you just have to get out in the night sky and low tide and detect. A few dry sand coins and then only a nickel for over a mile. On the way back I got a bit of an iffy signal and it turned out to be a corroded, copper cross. At least it was something. While I was digging it around 1 AM a guy came up to me and just was asking questions. I told him about the energy needed to make targets get washed up. I showed him what I found and upon his parting he wished me good finds. That was nice. About 20 minutes later I got a 12 with the 800/11 and dug down about 7 inches and discovered this 'thing' I've never seen before. It's a ring but for two fingers. Then I couldn't read it to know if it was real or not. I couldn't make out a k so I thought it might be cheap. When I got it home I could see some workings and also read 417. It weighs 6.7g. The internet says it is 10K. Yahoo! It has been a few months since a gold ring ... that this one is a double. But what do you call it? What are the key words? I found this one online for sale from a pawn shop. It is 3.6g. Solid 10K Yellow Gold Two Finger Bar Ring 3.6gr. Size 5 | eBay
