  1. Jeff, You have been involved with updating detectors, right? I'm betting that AlgoForce plans to listen to the users and tweak the units as necessary. That being said, your SDC comparison would seem to put it on a standard that many of us understand and tweak it to be as good ... maybe better.
  2. Consider the massive investment in inventory required to go from 'mom and pop engineers' to global marketing mavens. The 'fun' part for them may be the development of the detector. They are surely going to have to bring on someone that lives, sleeps and breathes marketing if they want to get tens of thousands of machines sold. What pieces of the company would they have to give away and more importantly their control. Does someone have deep pockets you want to help them out with and not charge a premium? haha That would make the price go up.
  3. Better to be on the list and cancel than ...
  4. I'm anxiously awaiting Simon's tests. His insanely mild soil reviews are a standard now.
  5. You have to have a detector that can find what is left in the known gold patches. The E1500 and my X-coils have a chance at it if you learn to use them. Both of them seem to be pushing conventional detecting to new limits. No doubt the ergonomics of the E1500 are superior to the 7000. That and the price will bring back the fun factor for people to get the remaining bits. After these machines deplete the fields will my sons be able to look forward to more detectors that will consistently break the .01g barrier in 5-6 years?
  6. Lately as I drive around Google Maps tells me that the GPS signal is lost. Has anyone experienced this? I've been in touch with my phone manufacturer (Blu) and they have had me clear the cache and memory but I'm still having problems. My son has been using my phone lately to play games so it may have been dropped. I've never had a problem with these phones before. It is recommended that I install another program that uses GPS and I have added a couple. One is called Compass & Altimeter by PixelProse SARL. I like that it is a simple compass but it also lists sunrise and sunset daily. I need to go out and drive around to see if it loses GPS signal.
  7. Yes, the crowd is jumping up trying to catch the home run ball!
  8. They sound ideal. There could not have been a better response. Things happen with quality control, and they want the part back, but they want the customer satisfied.
  9. I'm getting this conductive scale confused with IDing.
  10. Hear (pun intended) is my update. Tonight, I went out as I have several times in the past couple of weeks with the Costco hearing aids. They are Jabras as Jamie above has. The first couple of times I used them I was not impressed. My previous hearing aids were more comfortable and sounded better. They just couldn't stay in my ear. Since I returned them I've talked with some people who use Air Pods and they put a little foam tip on to keep them in their ears. That should have been offered to me but wasn't. Going back to the Jabras, I went back to Costco and they gave me some new cups and that has made a big difference. I can use them with the headphones and feel comfortable. The hearing aids also stay in because of a little 'tail' that uses the outer ear to keep them from sliding out. You also use the tail to pull the hearing aids out of the ears. I can still use the detector without the hearing aids and I think get 90% of the hearing but if I really slow down the hearing aids help. The Jabras are a little bit tinty as I would say and I think they have more to do with volume than quality of sound. There is an adjustment for frequency which I've lowered the power on the high and mid and that has helped the target sounds not sound scratchy. I can hear the electric clock in our dining area ticking which I can't do without the hearing aids in. Sometimes that is not such a bad thing when you have a couple of young kids! Costco gives me 6 months to use them and still get a full refund. I'll come back here and let everyone in on my experiences from time to time.
  11. I just got in from a beach hunt. My question is going to be, "How will it ID a zinc penny that is broken, bubbled, corroded and cracked?" Will it do any better with a tent stake in heavy black sand? As I was detecting I began to think of the phrase TGTBT (Too Good To Be True). We do need a detector that will tell us exactly what the targets are ... kinda like an XRF. I hope this does it and reduces some of the excess digging on beach hunts but it's not going to make good targets show up by itself.
  12. I think I prodded them a bit! haha
  13. I think jewelers 'cheat' all the time. Amateur jewelers cheat more than known pros. Solid gold is in the eye of the beholder! I'd dare say that some manufacturers do it as a profession like those who make fake collector coins.
  14. But some things are like a good, used 4Runner. They keep running and running. New is not always necessary.
  15. Do you really think a jeweler would use inferior materials when sizing a ring? haha
  16. Those of us who have held on to our 5000s might actually see some appreciation in the next few years!
  17. Ah, I didn't see this until after I was informed through an unusual source. Today I had reason to talk to my T Mobile customer service rep about international calling. I was informed that text and data were 'free' outside of the United States but calls would be $.25 per minute. At the end of the call I always ask where someone if from so that I get an idea of where the rep is sitting. When I guessed the rep's accent to be from Texas or New Mexico she told me she was actually from Oregon. Then she said Sweet Home! I said I do metal detecting and she said White's was part of the family!!! She then asked which detector I have and I said the 6000 DI Pro and she said she knew it and the other detectors. She told me how she was related to the White's family and that her 'uncle' was the man who took over from the founders. She told me that this man had passed away on January 3rd. I had not read the post. It is a small world if we just ask the right questions. RIP Mitchel
  18. I took the ring and a few other items to Wilshire Coin Exchange in Santa Monica. They used their XRF gun to tell me that it is a 14K Gold ring! A visual said that the 'stones' are CZs and I'll take their word for it unless a jeweler tells me different. Thanks everyone for giving a shot at what it really was based on the pictures supplied.
  19. I've tested the stones with my diamond tester and I can only get it to go up one 'notch' so they are probably not real. We have other stones that make the meter go all the way up to the top so I know the meter works. I went out to the same spot today and 2 others because of the waves and only found 4 cheap rings and a few quarters. That left me no time to go to my coin shop to learn more about the ring.
  20. I have a local gold buyer and seller who is the same way with an XRF. I've bought some coins from them over the years and they are quite happy to give me a bullion offer on anything I show them. They like to see my finds and I tell other beach hunters the best place to go locally to sell on the spot. Local jewelers are a different problem. I had a place where I could walk in and the ladies would 'look and test' without a purchase interest. I've found that if a jeweler wants to get your item for a deal you'll often times get a low ball, this isn't a worth much 'appraisal.' It is mostly a waste of time anymore. Reality doesn't come out of many jewelers mouths, even on the sales side! Buy low, sell HIGH.
  21. This afternoon I got in a quick hunt and saw some really nice local waves. It was a great day for them and I remembered my surfing days from Florida and Hawaii. I pretty much gave it up when I moved to California's cold waters. While watching out of the corner of my eye I was looking for a patch. My normal spots were not giving up anything so I moved along until I found a few quarters in between all the pennies. When the new 'hits' ran out I returned to work everything a the spot. It was the best chance I had. There was no time to go to another beach. As luck would have it I got just enough to keep me going without saying 'enough is enough' and out of a scratchy sound came this ring. It is 6.6g. That is for certain. It feels like gold but I really can't tell because the mark (which includes an 'N') has been written over with an inscription. It says "B + C Always 1-20-93" which makes me wonder the materials most in use in 1993. The stone reminds me of glass more than precious but who knows. The break at the resizing area made it sound real scratchy. It didn't have the full tone of a normal ring. It reads 8-9 on my 800/15. There is a green corrosion at the break area/resize area. Could this have been a ring someone inherited and then they resized if for a wedding? That would make the manufacture date and materials somewhat different. It was a good little hunt none the less and I think I go back tomorrow. This was a little 'target' I found before the ring. It really slowed me down a bit as pinpointing it and scooping it up became a problem. Just as I was about to move on I spotted it and felt it with my fingers. It sounds good in the lower teens but to my surprise it has a stone in it or ?? It weighs .25g.
  22. I guess you won't be using your right hand often to wave over a coil! haha Really good find.
  23. When you reach a point where you can't do anything else ... go and detect. Results are not required.
  24. Just mine. Only a couple of man made gold pieces but a few other things. I found the cross in a local park just a couple of hours before the meeting.
