  1. I must say, I'm a little disappointed in the lack of excitement over the Storm, had this been a few other brands talking about a new SMF release a thread like this would be going wild. Hopefully Garrett can make the tide change, they've proven they're capable with the Axiom bringing a machine to market that is well beyond what many expected and up there very close to the best, they were aware the Apex was a low-end machine and kudos to them for that, they've now had time to work on it and improve it to become a competitive high-end VLF and I personally think they won't disappoint. Looking forward to seeing what you've got up your sleeve Garrett.🫰
  2. I can't wait until you're doing a post about your first nugget Skate, it's a real memorable day, one you'll never forget.
  3. Has the AQ Limited now become a retail detector? On their website it appears so? Seems a bit confusing. Here's a link to it on thier fancy new website. I thought they were just clearing beta stock, now they're acting as if its a release model, at least it looks that way. I was under the impression they offloaded them all to Kellyco. https://fisher-impulse.com/impulse-aq-limited/ "Available in a production run limited to only 99 detectors" From 2020……
  4. The ZED is unrivalled on deeper targets, with a smaller coil attached it becomes a real weapon on the tiny stuff too. Nice post, great gold too.
  5. Don't retailers in the US have a DOA policy rule they have to follow set by the government? Here, in this case I could have just given the coil back to the dealer and they would have to replace it for me, I wouldn't have to mess around contacting service agents.
  6. X-coils are not going to be producing them anymore, so the options are Detech, Coiltek and Nugget Finder, seeing NF can't even produce promised GPX 6000 coils I'd rule them out, so far, no interest from Coiltek but maybe the new Lite package at a more reasonable price will inspire more sales of the detector in OZ which could then get Coiltek thinking about it, although it's going to take more than what I estimate to be a couple of hundred or less detector owners in OZ to make coil production viable. Detech were going to, but have fallen off the radar on it too so looks like they're not doing it anymore at this stage. I think in a few years once enough detectors are out there the chances of aftermarket coils are higher, you can't get a return on the investment of making them unless enough demand is there. Fingers crossed! Best way to show interest is to contact coil manufactuers asking, if enough people do that they may see it as viable more so than if very few ask.
  7. Once the basics are down pat, which it sounds like they are the hardest part is putting the coil over some gold.
  8. Thanks, now I know I don't need one, saves some coin. The E1500 would be great to get kids into prospecting, easy to use that's for sure, and with the weight they'd swing it no problems. Only problem I've heard of is someone had some shaft twist with a large coil on it, but I get that with my 6000 with a 10x5" coil so that's not a bad problem, Minelab have conditioned us to be used to that 😛
  9. Well, it's basically confirmed, the Storm is the AT Pro replacement, coming this year too. See Garrett's reply to someone asking when the AT Pro replacement is coming above. I've already started saving for it, it won't be cheap in NZ.
  10. More Aussies are starting to do videos, this one with the 12x8" EVO, that coils always intrigued me, never enough to buy one though.
  11. Welcome to the team Kel, great introduction post.
  12. I think whoever built that Detech site has no understanding at all of English and does a lot of copy and paste stuff, with incorrect facts and figures, the actual weight is 780 grams, see Detech Australia which is a much more accurate website about the gear. I think that Detech 11" would be the sweet spot of a coil on the Algoforce too, and Detech are very good pricing for quality coils.
  13. I'm sure from memory it was @DSMITH that purchased spare coil bolts from Garrett and found out the crazy price of them.
  14. All great advice above and very nice of Mitchel to offer to help you out, the key especially when learning is go to where detectable size historical gold has been found before and dig everything that beeps. Use either the Nox and 6" or Manticore and M8, I'd probably take the Manticore.
  15. I really like that guy, wow, he makes good honest videos and puts a lot of effort into doing it. I've never seen one of his videos before. @Tyler should consider watching this video even though it's not to do with his detector as what it demonstrates is how much better spiral coils are over bundle coils, a larger spiral coil really shows a smaller bundle coil who's boss, the smaller coil should be the most sensitive to small gold based upon size, but the larger spiral virtually keeps up on the smallest gold while providing much better depth as the gold gets bigger. For me, if I were in Australia in those soil conditions, I'd not touch the Sadie and stick with a larger spiral coil of either 10" to 12" round or a 14x9" Spiral. The Sadie would only go on if I needed the smaller size due to rocks and bushes or the like. There is very good reason most coil manufacturers have ditched making bundle coils. At the 33-minute mark he gives a great demonstration of why difficult on the 6000 is risky business, the Algo did as well as the 6000 on that nugget when the GPX was in difficult I thought, I've seen this myself multiple times even in my mild soil where a target is hard work for difficult but screams in normal with the 6000, and the GPZ is an even better example, much of the gold I've found with the GPZ I'd not even find if I wasn't in normal. Yes, you have to have soil suitable, which is why I suppose the final frontier for the GPZ and future PI's is handling soil better to give normal like mild ground performance in difficult ground conditions. My Algo experience isn't quite as defined as his in this video being in milder soil the gap isn't so far apart between the two which I guess shows the GPX 6000 loses less depth in bad soils than the Algo does. The only reason I'd use the Target ID on the Algo gold prospecting is to check for surface pellets, they always come up 00, gold on the other hand will almost always come up with a number. The harder to hit spherical shape of pellets drags it's numbers down to 00 when for gold, even bits weighing the same as a pellet will generally have slightly higher number with that number increasing as the gold gets bigger. This video also shows why I keep saying GPX 6000 owners don't need one, unless they want to use it for something other than gold prospecting.
  16. I can't recall why, but I do recall in an interview with Dave Johnson that made them he said the T2 was better for gold nuggets than the F75, both run the same frequency so not sure the reasoning, I honestly can't remember, if it's all metal was better or there was some other reason. It's been so long since I read it.
  17. I think you have the piece of brass to thank for finding that nugget! Congratulations though, a beauty of a nugget and more proof it really pays to dig it all.
  18. All you would need to do is lower your sensitivity a little in worse ground, there is a reason brands like Nugget Finder and Coiltek largely discontinued bundle would coils, they're left behind when it comes to performance, there is nothing wrong with spirals in bad ground or they wouldn't have discontinued their bundle coils, they just need a little less sensitivity, yet even with lower sensitivity they'll still pick up smaller gold better than a bundle coil would.
  19. A spiral won't be noisy in moderate ground.
  20. Yes, my Detech 15x8" was bundle wound, and really gutless on small gold contrary to their marketing for it.
  21. That's what I always thought too, yet their website says the other 11" Coil is spiral too. So, unless they've done some dodgy copying and pasting then it's likely spiral. I like how they say Spiral Mound 😛 Maybe @PhaseTech could chime in being a dealer of the things.
  22. Thanks for the video, Jeff, that's happening to someone else's detector I know but they just thought it was normal behaviour. I've been trying to tell them it's not likely normal, now I can prove it to them 🙂
  23. Sounds like your particular diamond might be of some value. Is It Necessary to Laser Engrave Your Diamond? | Diamond Registry A diamond laser inscription is a set of letters and numbers etched into the stone, usually on the girdle. These symbols serve as a unique identifier that can be used to identify a specific stone if necessary. The grading lab where diamonds are certified usually laser engraves them.
  24. According to their website, yes they are, at least in the 11" size. DETECH 11" MONOLOOP coil for Minelab GPX, GP, SD Series Metal Detectors With Coil Cover Protector Included (detechdetect.com)
