  1. Thanks Steve, there is also a very good guide by Alan Chenworth called, Gold Panning in Utah, that mentions several methods of finding gold except metal detecting.
  2. Concrete Man, I have found a lot of places in Utah that have lots of quarts and detected many places but no detectable gold. Have panned, sluced, high banked many creaks and found small gold. For nuggets, I too go to other states. Good luck out there.
  3. Tom B, I have a 9'' Minlab DD for sale if you are interested.
  4. I've made kind of a long tom by putting two sluice boxes end to end.
  5. California has not yet claimed that breathing causes cancer but give them time.
  6. It does come with a straw just like WD40 so it will work just fine.
  7. Started Spring cleaning of my metal detectors a little early this year. I wipe down all parts with a wet warm clean microfiber cloth, rinsing them often. I always remove the coil covers to clean the bottom of the coil and rinse and wipe the inside of the coil covers. I always find fine dust inside of the cover and have always figured there was/is some amount of magnetic material in that dust, but just to confirm this time, I put a strong magnet to the dust and sure enough, some of it stuck to the magnet. Of course, you know that it will affect how the coil response will be affected, so just a heads up, you may want to clean that dust out of your coil and cover often depending on the amount of use, but for sure, every year. Take care and good luck out there.
  8. Watch out Doc, there's a spider on that hat!!!
  9. 2 cents makes no sense as inflation makes 2 cents worth 1/2 cents, you need to charge more cents.
  10. 5000's may become hard to find sometime in the future. I have 2 of them, may sell one in a couple of years, have many coils and accessories. Still a very good detector.
  11. I wonder if this is why Minelab released the 6000 earlier than may have been advised with some early problems, knowing the 5000 was going away.
  12. There is a good paper book called " Gold Panning in Utah" written by Alan Chenworth, first printing in 2007. Very good guide for finding fine gold in 25-30 streams in Utah. Very detailed as he has been to every stream/river in the state that he reports on. Give a history of finding gold in the state, claims that the largest nugget found was 1+ ounce that he knew of. I have been to the Drum Mountains, again not finding detectable gold, but may try again someday in a different area around there. Thanks for the article GeoBill.
  13. I have tried but have not so far, found any detectable gold in Utah. I have found several areas that contain quarts and detected some of those areas but so far nothing. There is find gold to be found in some streams.
  14. Klunker, if anyone knows anything about something, it would not be someone else but you.

  17. Right you are Kevin, have the very same very helpful accessories. Makes a difference as you say.
  18. We all may watch for different reasons, so no one on this subject can possibly be wrong. Great thing about our hobby, we are the same in many things but different in many things also. Just enjoy what you like.
  19. Good subject. I have to agree that Jonathan Porter, then Chris Ralph, Phasetech Nenad are my top 3 but some others mentioned on this page are worth watching also.
