Happa54
Hey Everyone; I just don't know what to do think about this video. I will be in the Philippines for several months when the travel ban is lifted. Taking my Nox with me. Found several youtube channels on metal detecting there and here is one that blows my mind. I know nada about metal detecting for gold, but based on my coin & relic experience, something about this video motivates me to post this for comments. From the user's coil control, depth of the nuggets, soil conditions....I pray it could be this easy. Watch this and please give me your thoughts.
Chase Goldman
My comment: Way to ruin a perfectly good machete'. Maybe he has found enough gold now to get a decent shovel and scraper. The Phillipines are supposedly sitting on the second greatest gold reserve in the world but the mining industry is severely regulated by the government. Doesn't appear to be gold bearing soil, but who knows...probably fake.
Popular Post jasong
Almost all these gold videos popular on Youtube are fake now. Why? Because it takes 10 minutes to go film some fake stuff, do ok framing and get all the right shots. And you make $5000 a video because it's more watchable to normal people who can't tell the difference. You can tell a story and show good cinematography because you don't have to worry about doing the work of actual prospecting or obscuring your locations. Meanwhile, it takes real prospectors 4 weeks of hauling camera gear around themselves (gear which annoyingly sets a real gold detector off in the worse times) because no one is going to tag along for 200 hours of hiking and digging trash and hot rocks to film it. Setting up gear every single shot even though 90% of the things you film are never used because it's garbage. You can't film anything nice like horizons or the leeches move in and steal your spots, so all you can show is the same boring shot of the 10,000th hole in a ground you've dug that season. Normal people aren't excited by that. Then finally getting a shot that is a gold nugget, but you are so tired of wasting so much time filming junk that you stopped using the tripod and just held the camera by hand to save a few minutes per dig, so it's shaky and virtually unwatchable. And your nugget is real so it's probably 1 or 2 grams, not a palm sized fake-ass monster. And in the end half the actual prospectors want to scream fake anyways after all that work, or just whine and moan about your technique. Finally, all but a select handful of people who Youtube randomly chose to promote won't ever make more than maybe $200/video. I was lucky enough to be one of the ones who made more, and it still wasn't worth it. But, to the math - 10 minutes of fake crap for $5k. Or 4 weeks of hard work, doubling or tripling the time you would normally spend digging, for $200. That's why everything is fake now.
Chet
If it was so easy with a metal detector then many in the Philippines would not be mining in deep mudholes such as in the following. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8psB-o-er5k
RickUK
@jasong, Your post sums it up very well, its easy to make fake these type of videos rather than the reality of what is actually involved in the finding gold in the real world.I have have never done any form of gold nugget hunting but i do love reading all the real life adventures that the pro's get upto when hunting for gold around the world. flakmagnet
Anyone pulling up gobs of gold like this would not be bothering to make teaser videos, they'd be too busy.

And there is deeper deposits. The geology of every different place is different.. Here we have deeper gold and we also have very shallow deposits. Nothing like austrailia but shallow enough to unweed and pick nuggets from the dirt.

This was my closest one to a full dig on video. Very nice, Simon. Also, I am amazed how stable your threshold sounds at HY/normal/20. Equals to HY/difficult/10 where I hunt....
