Redneck
Back in 1975,I was 16, I drove a half toasted mustang I bought from my brother for $15. I also bought my first detector, an AH mini pro detector with 6" coil. for $175. ( It disc'ed out foil and nailed coins about 2" deep max.)I detected alot at a beachfront park , a mile and a half from home. Today i put the manticore in the truck and went back to the same park I had not set foot in for 30 years. I parked and behold, an old ornary looking caretaker sitting in his truck, half asleep. I figured he would kick me out , so I detected down at the beach instead, picked up a few zincs, and had a nice view of lake Michigan. After about an hour, I climbed back up the hill and he had left for the day, so I started detecting the south side of the 6 acre park. The concessions stand, ball diamond and rest room were gone. Thats the side of the park I had the most success years ago. I found enough old coins with the mini to keep my interests up. An indian cent, wheaties, a few merc dimes, etc. In 76 I bought a Garrett Money Hunter TR , and found coins down to 5 inches. A Franklin half, a SLQuarters, one I sold for $100, more mercs , barber dimes, wheats, Indians, etc. As I walked in with the manticore, these memories came back like yesterday. Funny how things change. I can barely remember what I had for breakfast this am ! I decided to start near the existing ball diamond, when using the sovereign XS 30 years ago I nailed a barber dime and wheats. Lots of pulltabs I left in the ground, and a zincoln cent after 45 minutes. I relocated near where the food stand used to be, and was swinging for about 10 min, and got a solid hi 60's low 70's signal. The target trace looked good, and the depth showed 4-5 chevrons. Finally dug up a green 41 wheatie 7-8 ' deep. Hotdog! 2 feet away, I got a signal that caught my ear, and it was showing 26-27 in every direction. Maybe a nickel? would sure love a buff! 6-7 " deep up comes a green nickel. Scraped off the green and sure enough a brown 38 buff! Yes! been awhile since I found one of those! 6 feet away I hit the sweetest sounding 77-86 signal! It has to be a dime! . 6" -7" deep out pops a silver dime! I grab my reading glasses and I did a little dance! An o3 barber! I never get sick of seeing clean silver come out of the hole! I circled around that area a few times , but that was it. I started swinging towards the truck on the other side of the park, I came up with a zincoln and clad quarter. It just felt so awesome to know that the park still holds a fair amount of old coins, and it sure was nice to relive the excitement I felt as a teenager, having a ball back then, enjoying a clean hobby! And I remember the areas where those finds were made, and look forward to seeing what I and others have missed over the years. The Manticore is bringing the fun back into my detecting life. I love the machine. Settings were ATG. speed 3 & 4, multi, sensitivity 21 -24 . HH

Tony
I enjoyed reading that……glad to hear the Manticore is providing a good deal of enjoyment. Maybe no one has detected the area since you were last there. I’m close to pulling the trigger on a Manticore myself ❤️

Doc Bach
Good stuff Redneck both the story and the finds.I'm betting that the last time you hunted that park you never would have guessed that you would be there 30 years later and still making good finds.
