Bob Canaday worked for White's Electronics for 33 years and was one of the true experts in the metal detecting community, posting on White's Forum, Findmall, and Friendly Forums as rcsnake. I used to Google and read all his posts that I could find. Bob was particularly knowledgeable on the White's V3i and wrote Hunting in Mineralized Ground with the V3i

My condolences to Bob's family and friends.

Just found out today that he had passed. I chatted with him nearly 30 years ago on IRC channel Detecting-Central along with other of us metal detecting nuts, then, for years in the White's chatroom. I had been sending him PMs for the past couple years on another forum and hadn't heard back from him. Googled him and his obituary and this post came up. I will miss him.

Wow, I am just finding out about Bob's passing. I was actually about to contact him since I hadn't seen him for a while. He is the one who talked me into a V3i when I was still using a Garrett 400. The next time I saw him I had a V3i! He was happy to see that and set up a custom developers program that he used and designed under the Hi-Pro program that I still have and use to this day. We detected together a few times and each time I was like a sponge taking in as much information as I could handle!! Listening to priceless information on the V3i and metal-detecting stories. I was always tickled that as being a newbie to the hobby at that time my oldest coin I found detecting was an (1858-S Seated Liberty Half) here in Oregon and his was I believe a 1853/54 after years of detecting in Oregon, I don't remember the type of coin, but he also made a point to remind me that's his oldest in Oregon!! He had found older elsewhere.

I am a black man and sometimes in these small communities, you are treated a bit differently if not a lot and every encounter I had with Bob he treated me with the most respect and dignity any human deserves. That's my two cents.

RIP Bob
