  2. But it is heavy if it is a gold nugget. ☺️
  3. I had to use google to get a grasp of the weight savings. https://weightofstuff.com/11-common-things-that-weigh-about-5-ounces-oz/
  4. Today
  5. Maybe they should just stay quiet at this point until they actually have all the details about the storm. Anything but actual information about the storm at this point is likely to piss even more people off. As far as pleasing all the people all the time goes, I'd say less than 1% of the people that watched that YouTube video were pleased with what they saw. A statement like that only works when a small majority of the people aren't pleased. In Garret's case it was a marketing disaster. In the end they better have something that will compete with other available models or it's going to be a waste of time all the way around. Garrett should be beyond hoping at this point and know with some certainty people will like the new Storm. This is where having testers that aren't fan boys comes into play. Telling manufactures only what they want to hear never does anybody any good. There have been so many new metal detectors released in the past few years by Minelab and Nokta it's hard to say how Garrett's going be received in the market. Anything short of excellent just isn't going to cut it IMO, unless of course they just want to sell on Amazon.
  6. The 24K will never match the Monster for sales by a huge margin. The name Minelab is synonymous with gold detecting and most people will use nothing else, and with good reason. The 24K is a decent machine but what people really want from Garrett is a 24K in an Apex housing. Even that is too late now as the future of VLF nugget detecting lies with SMF technology. Amazing Walt, Garrett is telling you just what I’ve been telling people for years about Garrett producing Whites products because I asked and got the answer years ago. The reason I started this thread was to once again try and get people aligned with reality. I give up. It’s completely pointless for me to be embedded with these companies for decades and try to pass stuff on when basically nobody pays any attention.
  7. Dutchman, Outstanding results. I am glad you were rewarded for all the hard work. Good luck expanding the zone. - Jerry
  8. Thanks for getting in touch with Garrett.-----As to their carefree attitude----seems they have (so far) pissed more people off rather than pleased them.
  9. But so is the Gold Monster 1000, Simon. I'd stick my neck out to say it's the most popular high-frequency Gold Detector on the market.
  10. I'm not surprised sales are slow on the 24k, as good as that detector is, it's still a single frequency once trick pony, everyone now wants SMF multi purpose machines.
  11. I reached out to Garrett's Sales Department complaining about the Teaser Ads and Announcing a new Product months before it's available. This was their response" "As the old saying goes, you can’t please all the people all the time. In the end, we hope people will be pleased with the new detector once they are able to see what it can do."
  12. This today from my source at Garrett: "Garrett has not and doesn`t plan on using any of Whites technology . They were bought up fairly cheaply for the purpose of keeping that information from competitors regardless of whom they might be . The 24k was new in production when they were bought out . Sales have been very slow on that model."
  13. Nothing wrong with any of that, all for it. I was talking performance as in depth and separation, not which way the find is displayed once found. That’s the key - you have to actually find it first.
  14. I went out yesterday to the Rye Patch placers. Once again found myself going to Bogene's settings. Sensitivity 7 and threshold at -8. This is almost hunting like a VLF. Very quiet until it runs over metal. Ended the day with 4 nuggets.
  15. And that is one of the many reasons i am not an engineer... 🎌
  16. I'd love them to make a new TRX, although it would have to be more stable than the existing one while maintaining the tip only sensitivity. They could have two pin pointers in their range as the TRX doesn't replace the Pro Pointer AT and the Pro Pointer AT doesnt' replace the TRX, they are very different due to their nose sensitivity vs 360 degree sensitivity. Sometimes you want one, other times you want the other. If they had both in their line-up they'd be doing well, manufacturers never put enough effort into pinpointers. Ideally they'd need a pulse pinpointer and a pulse with coil pinpointer like the pulse dive too. Any pinpointer in the future that doesn't have a Bluetooth mobile phone settings app like my Sphinx 03 is backwards old tech in my opinion, fiddling with combinations of beeps to setup a pinpointer is terrible and probably even then should have never been the way to configure it. Keeping a pinpointer down to 1 button to do a bunch of tasks was never a user-friendly option. Who wouldn't want to just open up the app on their Apple or Android phone and have configuration options like these at their finger tips. Once you've had an app pinpointer, it's hard to go backwards. Other than the Sphinx 03 the TRX is the most sensitive handheld standard pinpointer design I've ever used, so in a way, yes, it can be proven Whites tech is ahead of others at something, picking up fine gold nuggets in bedrock, it beats all the competitors of normal handheld pin pointers not speciality things like the Falcon at that except Sphinx which is a Russian brand only sold in their region so doesn't overly count as it's not a worldwide accessible brand. Garrett have the TRX in their hands, they need to remake it and modernize it and they've got a great product that would sell very well if they borrowed some ideas from the Sphinx 03, not just the app either.
  17. Rattlesnakes can be dangerous. In 1936 a gold miner called Whisky Jack dropped his tin cup on the other side of a log. When he bent over to retrieve it he was surprised to suddenly be face to face with a Northern Pacific Rattler. The snake was as surprised as the miner and bit him in the face. The miner died of a heart attack in route to a hospital. I wrote about that true story in the 1936 journal. I was told of this by an old timer who was told this by descendants of Whisky Jack.
  18. Actually only 5 ounces lighter. 12.7 oz vs. 17.6 oz. But still a significant drop.
  19. Here’s hoping. I don’t see anything wrong with hoping someone, anyone will make use of some of the things that were useful like the SignaGraph, multifrequency pinpoint graphics, or polar plot. These things enhance the detecting experience and aren’t necessarily married to the weaknesses of Whites machines. The Deus uses a version of polar plot they call the X/Y Screen. It was popular enough to carry over to the Deus II.
  20. Wow!----I don't blame you.----That's a LOT of weight difference out there on the end of the stick.
  21. Yep along with all of this stuff in Denver “hunted out parks” using the Manticore.
  22. OK, that makes more sense, that Garrett bought White's to keep the brand out of Chinese hands. Steve, you are absolutely correct, except for the 3 models I mentioned (GM24k, TM808, TRX) there is nothing White's had that even matches what Minelab and Nokta have today. The MXT might outhunt the AT Pro but that ain't where Garrett needs to go, and the V3 tech isn't going to help them, either, as it is way behind the competition. The Axiom is also way ahead of the TDI and anyone who thinks the Axiom uses any White's tech is wrong. Maybe Garrett will implement a SignaGraph in the Storm but that's something they (or anyone) could have had without buying White's. Other than that, don't expect any White's tech in any new Garrett releases.
  23. Should have read the 24K manual under ground scan. 24K yes, MXT not quite. At least not in the same sense as the GMT and 24K, both of which have the bar graph display with this feature. The MXT does display a continuous ground number though and achieves the same thing.
  24. Both the MXT and GM 24K had the "Follow the Black Sand" readouts with numbers.
