  1. Yup, I have used it and do like it. It's a stout little coil with great sensitivity, it shrugs off EMI wel, can go pretty deep considering it's sizel and does not false at all. If we are still going to hook up soon, you are certainly welcome to give mine a try. I will admit, I don't use it much since I got a NFSadie......
  2. it was a pleasure spending a day with you. Glad to see you found some nice looking gold afterwards. Best of luck on your future down there in Texas.......
  3. X2 on the blue bowl. I have been usin one for 25+years. Now I use it for capturing the ultra fine gold out of my jewelry machinery. It will capture down to 2micron size gold, I poured the fines out of the blue bowl into the pan to let it dry
  4. Well Steve, I look at it a bit differently. When I seriously started looking for gold the price was $240/OZ. To me it has steadily gone up and yes I still have some of that $240 gold!
  5. Steve & Chris...thanks or taking us along for your fantastic adventure
  6. I know nothing about that detector, but rivers are tough to detect, you will be finding loads of fishing trash, AKA lead weights
  7. Yesterday I took Calgeologist out to my claim for a few pointers on his new to him GPX5000. I think he had already memorized the owners manual and read everything he could from a few forums. That made it easy as there was not much more for me to do. I had him hook up an external speaker and walked with him for advice on various targets and sounds. He chose to use the Commander 12x15 Mono, a bit of an overkill but he did not have any smaller mono coils in his arsenal. After awhile I let him go on his own and started my own hunt. An hour later he came up to me and asked for some help, by then I had switched to my new GB Pro after beating the skunk away with the GPX. He told me he had gotten a target out of his dig hole and asked me if I could help end his frustration and point it out for him. He pointed to the spot he figured it was and bingo the GB said he was correct. I got a mild signal and had the target in my scoop. It gave a nice signal on the front sensitive portion of his monster coil and when I spotted his target after a few cuts I was totally blown away... I mean it was unbelievable. He found a small birdshot a few inches deep. He was hunting in sharp timing, slow motion and I think quiet with the gain set higher than factory setting. Can't remember his gain setting for sure. Just amazing the sensitivity of that coil...... and he did not even have it in Fine Gold timing! If some one told me they could find birdshot with that coil I would be pulling on my extra high Bshort boots! I also think nuggets are in serious trouble when he gets a bit more experience under his belt.
  8. Just back from a trip where we beeped gold between 6500-7000'. Not all is pine scrub, the Blue Nose Mtn area is mostly large old growth Fir. The water problem Klunker mentioned is definitely a good thing for us modern electronic prospectors. The early, then depression era miners just could not wash the ground as well as some of the bigger lower elevation workings....they removed a lot of overburden, but not all the gold. My biggest issue at those elevations are the friggin Mosquitos..... Calgeologist...what area are you in? PM ME, maybe we can hook up......
  9. When I flew my little 1946 Cessna 140 to AK I followed the Cassiar Hwy Route. Smithers was a fantastic town with super friendly folks. Most of my flight was at 500' or less so it was a continual wildlife viewing..... Thanks for the update an fantastic picture
  10. Best of luck to all on this adventure. I am looking forward to seeing pictures and updates.
  11. Just a suggestion, go across the Foresthill bridge to Drivers Flat road and go down to the river to a place called Ruck a Chuck. I am not sure if you are going to pan, sluice or detect. Detecting at RoC might be OK but another spot to run a beeper is at a public area that is an old Hydraulic pit in Foresthill behind the transfer station. There is good parking, and no stepping on toes of a claim owner........it is in my backyard and nuggets can still be coerced from the dirt! Good luck and the weather will be perfect!
  12. I see some humor in your frustration but I do believe most if us have been in the same place too, myself included. I just spent a few days with a new BG Pro in an area full of rusty cans, many hot rocks and highly mineralized ground. Was nothing more than confusion and frustration, especially when I was in a virgin patch and watched my buddies popping nuggets with Minelabs all around me! I was determined to learn this new detector! I have a practice patch in my yard, that is where I should have started......learning curves suck big wind
  13. Mox, I have hunted with both Steve and Ray, they are deadly with any detector you can give them. Most people will never be able to do what these two men can do with a frisbee on a broom pole. I have a GPX and a GBll. As another great detectorist calls them, The "Dynamic Duo" Watching Ray and reading what Steve has put out there jconvinced me to get a GB Pro. I have only used it once, but can easily see that it will get a whole bunch more use than the GBll. It sure can be a difficult decision on what to do when having to part with hard earned cash when being a NOOB. I will add, that if you buy new, buy from a well known dealer, they will be your guide to properly getting started and will provide you with answers to all your questions......... I had an Infinium to use many years ago for a dredging trip, as Deathray said... there is so much lead in the river system it was a waste of time.......Its hard to find much water in CA that has not been fished for the last 100 years.
