  1. As Klunker says, but I would judge clean out time on how compacted riffles get with heavies like black sand. When they are getting full it's time for a clean up.
  2. I have used AAA Metals in Portland on more than one occasion. +1 (503) 253-8591
  3. Guys in OZ think $10,000, but based on all the previous models being close to the model number I'm thinking just over $7000. However it would not surprise me if those guys down under know something we dont
  4. Kieth... Great job on the design and build directions. Looks to be very performance and quality orientated. Might actually have to make one for next summer''s adventure.
  5. Gary, I too enjoy this kind of stuff. But remember, the key tool to being able to use the sextant was the invention of the Chronometer, a great story in itself. It finally allowed accurate Longitude positioning
  6. It gets even better when faces and handshakes are put in place of screen names
  7. Junkman.... If you purchase a 5000 from a good reputable dealer who also offers training, you will see that the 5000 is not as complex as you think it is.
  8. I'm one of the old farts that was using one of strick's SDC2300's a few days ago I did find some gold with it but after so many years of GPX use that threshold drove me nuts and was pretty tiring on the old brain cells and the ergonomics leave much to be desired. Jonathan, I do understand what you are saying but it's just not for me. Prior to using it, I was genuinely thinking about getting one. I'm glad I got to try before I bought one.
  9. Try to hit is with some 600 or 800 grit sandpaper.....you will find out fast and not ruin anything
  10. Todd's Valley was also the sight of one of the most if not the most brutal gunfights in the American West. Not to many folks have heard about it, but a lone man, a Mexican War Vet ended up killing 14 desparadoes within 2 minutes using his two guns and his knife. The story became widespread at the time but sort of lost steam fast. I have tried to research the spot it happened so I could possibly beep a bullet or two from the fight, would be cool to go in our local Museum.... http://digitaledition.qwinc.com/display_article.php?id=913610
  11. Plidn1... great story, especially for me, I am a current resident of Todd Valley. I bet there are many places like that hidden around here
  12. Way back in my earlier dredging days when I owned airplanes I would routinely overfly my dredging areas. Amazing how much you can learn from overhead views.
  13. I hope the 7000 is not true to form regarding the price.......I also wonder if the 5000 will be discontinued
  14. Yup, I must agree on the Salt and vinegar for cleaning placer gold. It's fast, easy snd cheap. I have been cleaning my gold this way for a couple of decades and shared this method with many a prospector. If you need to remove Caliche, CLR works great, followed by the salt and vinegar for a final cleaning.
  15. Steve, nothing prettier than a nugget that is brought to light after being buried for eons. Congrats
  16. Clay, Do you have any idea when the S. Fork of the American will be available?
  17. I'm in the same boat as you Steve.......just do it a bit different by making jewelry from my gold.
