Most of the chat and subject matter is about detectors, as it should be. The time has come for a new set of headphones and it is time for us to get a new set. Is there any difference in requirements for headphones on different detector brands, VLF vs PI, hard of hearing, etc? I am in the market and want to hear from others that have much more knowledge than I.

Since no one else has taken a stab at this, I do believe there are no such maps for your area. I would suggest learning the BLM program that is called LR-2000. Once you do learn how to use it, you can find out if there are current active claims in any section you research. It will get you down to 1/4 section locations, but it's as close as you can get. Once you do have the information then the legwork starts. You can either go to the BLM office in person or go to you're county recorders office and research the exact locations. I know this sounds hard, but it's the only sure fire method of not making mistakes. You must also keep in mind that the BLM is seriously far behind on bringing claim info up to date...... There are a few plug in apps that work with Google Earth and LR-2000 combined. The one I use is called Minecache. It won't take that much, be careful if your gold is delicate. When Van the Gold man was still around, I did exactly that on a few specie he wanted more crystal gold on them to show. I did it under a microscope and it took forever. Most of the quartz was removed with dental picks. His buyer did not want the frosted quartz that HF acid leaves.

How did it work out?

Detector pro makes a PI. I bought one, but have never used it, I'm not a coin hunter. I thought it would come in handy for when a giant coil was used for nugget hunting.......

Put enough salt in the jar to cover the nuggets, then fill with white vinegar. Put the cover on the jar and Put that jar in a basket in your ultrasonic cleaner for about an hour. I think you might be surprised.......

Rick and Steve..... I use a steam cleaner that produces "dry steam". It's very hot and powerful, it does clean well, but I seriously doubt it will fix the frosted look HF can leave on some gold. It would also not be good for delicate crystal type gold. I have had good luck with the salt/vinegar mix, but used in an ultrasonic cleaner vs hand shaking. When I first put my jewelry studio together, I had one of those $99 steamers and was disappointed with its performance...

Those jeans might be good for street wear, but I bet you can't walk through a blackberry patch or manzanita without damage to you or the pant. Plus one thing I really like about some of Duluth's firehouse pants is they have a pocket for built in knee pads, very nice in rocky areas. Thst being said, I will still check out those Costco jeans for regular wear......

I have been hooked on Duluth Trading For many years. The firehouse stuff they make lives up to all their claims, pricy but worth it. If you get signed up with them, they will send out notices of sales that usually are very good. Their long tail t-shirts are in my opinion the best t's a man can buy! If Carhart made a premium line of stuff, it would be like Duluth's stuff.......nothing better than good stuff!

I never knew that, thanks. The Spot would only send out one predetermined short message that you had to configure prior to your trip. Very simple.

When DeLorme first came out with the Spot I took one on both of my trips to Brazil. It was a great way to stay connected with friends and family at home. I sent one daily message in the evening to let people know I was OK and having fun. I sent additional messages during the day from each location I found a nugget. It pinpointed my location with amazing accuracy. Their technology with this system has really blossomed. The InReach is affordable and I am sure every bit as reliable a the Spot was. I am sold on their GPS's too....ll.

Ya Klunker, when you going to write, truck full loads? Chris's book could be your only reference book about prospecting and you would be covered
