  1. Dig it, That's a postcard picture of the mountains and lake! You are a lucky man! Keep up the hunts! Compass, The headphones and connections are waterproof! That depth transitions from white sand to a mucky bottom, and zero visibility!👍👍
  2. Simon, You should trade or sell those, while the price is good! That's a good bit of coin sitting unused! And leave it to you to get two of them! You lucky devil you!! Zippy, I've had two Equinoxes, and they have both worked very well at many sites, and situations! 600 or 800; they are as close to an all-in-one detector as you are going to get in that price range! Although my current 800 did not come with headphones or a WM08 module, my unit works fine with a 1/8 wired adapter i picked up for about $20! I use it all the time now, on land and water! Work's great! The only improvements i would make on my setup is a 90° Nox plug, and running the wire inside the shaft! Good Luck with yours! Don't get discouraged!👍👍
  3. Welcome again Tree, You now have to share the jacket story you alluded to, with us!!😁 I envy you being out West with all that history, and gold! I would hope that you are taking full advantage of the areas, and hunt for coin's and relics too! There are some very valuable gold and silver coin's to be found out there! And it's nice to be able to break up a one-track hunt every once and awhile! Good luck out there! And don't forget the chaps!🐍🦂🕷🌵 👍👍
  4. Hey Compass, You have done well this year! Have you got to work on the canoe since you retired? When's the maiden voyage? I think jewelry wearers in California are still wearing, and loosing some good stuff; from some of the finds I've seen from there this year! I think alot of people in my area of Florida have either made the switch to cheaper jewelry, or they are finally learning to leave the good stuff at home! I'm sure down Miami way, they still loose some good stuff, but it's to far for me to bother going down there! I prefer to trek up to the Treasure Coast, when condition's are good, to try and get my first Spanish coin! Keep up the good work! Both on the canoe, and the finds!👍👍
  5. Hello all, I went back to the lake where i found a 1935 Walking Liberty Half, at the beginning of the year! I believe that coin was a fluke find, as none of my other coins found there even come close to that date range! Today, i went to another shallow water area where jet ski's tend to hang out, while people rest, or work on them! I had no expections of this spot, other than it has been on my "to detect" mental list for awhile! I was there about 3 hours, and only worked about a 5x20 foot area against the shore, but the targets were layered and plentiful! I unfortunately did not get any old coins or gold, but the amount of targets in this small area kept me plenty busy! I used Park 1, with sensitivity at 23, in a depth from few inches to about 2 feet! I was digging most every signal, and got very good at telling what denomination the coin targets where! And for many, i used my pinpointer for the final recovery, as most where under four inches in depth! I was really hoping for some lost jewelry, but no luck this time out! It seems that no one has bothered to detect this spot, due to the amount of targets i found in such a small area! While these are not very worthwhile targets, they are typical of my area, and provide some good practice with the Nox! I'm sure i can get a few more good hauls from this spot, as there is still quite a bit that is still unsearched! Maybe a little gold the next time out!🤞 👍👍 ** I wanted to add my thoughts on the bullet below! I'm a hunter, but by no means a bullet expert! So you ballistic's guy's, please chime in!! I believe that this bullet was fired in the air, and landed in the lake intact! I'm almost certain that there are rifiling marks around the base that show it was fired! (two are visible in pic)! Not sure of the caliber, but it's on top of a quarter for scale! Let me know your thoughts!👍👍
  6. GB, Having read your posts and responses for awhile now, i don't think i have much to offer you! Your way ahead of me in detecting, knowledge wise! But i will humbly offer my two cents! Digging several more of the ferrous targets at a few different areas of the trail may give you a general consensus of the source! It sort of sounds like the gravel was mixed with, or laid over, some consistent source of ferrous material! Maybe natural; but most likely man made! Possibly shredded tires, shredded pallets, crushed recycled concrete, or some type of underlayment used to hold the gravel in place! Or was replaced by the gravel!?👍👍
  7. Welcome GoldTree, Very good story and finds! That sound's as much like an AA introduction, as I've ever heard!🤣 Since you are new here, please post an intro in the Meet & Greet section of the forum! And tell us where your from, and other pertinent information! You have landed in the right place for great info!👍👍
  8. Hello all, I've always had this question in the back of my mind, but it seems to keep cropping up in various forms! So i thought that instead of trying to shoehorn this question into various threads, or categories! I would just ask in the broadest way possible! Examples only: How are the manufacturers addressing this subject? Is it just from a technology standpoint? Or is there a broader range of issues, like getting younger people into the sport? Or trying to reduce the many restrictions that have been created to limit detector use around the world! There are no wrong answers! Just stick to Steve's "Golden rules" in your responses! If nothing else, maybe the manufacturers will catch on to this idea; if they haven't already, and do more to promote the sport, and it's many benefits!! Thanks!!👍👍
  9. GB, For the most part, the musketballs are generally thought to have been in small barrels from the 1715 Fleet! And are generally found in groups! There is some conjecture on the spent bullets, but they appear to be from between the 40's and 60's! From people just target shooting into the bank! There was also alot of WW2 training going on not too far South of here with live ammunition, including 50 cal. and bombs! That coin was a 65' quarter! Underneath which may be a smashed musketball, or spru piece! And the other one is one of those possible WW2 spent bullets!👍👍
  10. I understand the need to protect your "honey holes"! That's tough to do on any day! I do my best to give other guy's a wide birth! When going the opposite direction! And if i hear any other detector's in my headphones, i will be the first to shut mine off! A few have been thankful for me giving way, and actually stopped to chat a bit! I especially try to be as respectful of the regulars I've seen, because they sometimes share some tidbits of information about locations, and finds! But that's just the icing on the cake!👍👍
  11. Gary, That's where all the item's i detected where found this time! I figure that they act like riffles for gold! But things also get blasted out of these areas, back up near the cliff, or washed out to the water! Okara, There are two different colors that i have seen! The blue one's run about a half mile, and are only here, as far as i know! The white one's I've only seen in front of one house! 👍👍
  12. Simon, I was using a used Nox 800 i recently bought, in a "box of parts" for $315! It was a barebones unit with no headphones, wireless unit, or lower shaft! This was it's maiden hunt! The huge sandbags actually work very well! And yes, they are full of sand! I wish they would use them all over, instead of constantly pumping useless amounts of expensive sand on the beaches! Only to be washed away every year! Kac, I would love a PI! Are you offering to send me one??😁 Maybe when my other machines are paid off, i will get one, but i have spent my limit for awhile! I am interested in future AQ development, but we will see what comes out in the next year or two! 👍👍
  13. Hey all, I got up to Treasure Coast for a couple of hunts, to break in my new/used Equinox! I haven't had one for a few months, but i got back into it in a hurry! The area is always full of detectorists for any rare erosion event, and this past week was no different! The blue erosion bags are a main indicator of the level of erosion present! Normally they are covered by up to several feet of sand! The orange sand is the original sand we look for, when looking for the old stuff! Last friday was the better of the two days i was there! I found a few pieces of lead, iron, copper, and modern coins! For a few lucky hunters, there were musket ball's and spent bullets! There were a few coin and artifact finds, but those were on various other beaches nearby! The highlight of this trip was recognizing, than meeting a local legend here; Terry Shannon, a super nice, very experienced detectorist, and author! He has a few very good books out on Amazon! He was my best "find" of the day! I also went Monday, but i caught the tide incoming, and just got beat up by the big waves, with very few targets! But i will keep going there, whenever i get the chance, to finally find some of the elusive and rare Spanish items!👍👍
  14. Great job Compass, Depending on the type of chain link, sand will get in and make the chain stiff! It's than easy to break when handling! Obviously silver corrodes, and adds to the problem! But gold can get just as stiff, almost like a piece of wire! Much more so, when it's in the active surf zone rolling back and fourth!👍👍
  15. Great story and finds; congratulations! You all need to include some beach pics in with the finds! You can edit out locations and landmarks! I personally just like to see your beach and surf conditions! The features of where your finds are coming from are helpful in beach reading! No matter what part of the world you may hunt!👍👍
  16. I've already binge watched Aussie Gold Hunters! I thought it was a good show! My favorites were the couple with the camper, that got there generator and stuff stolen! (bastard thieves)! To me, they had the perfect size operation! That's the way i would do it, if i could!👍👍
  17. Valen's Legacy's oil is an extreme example of rancid oil! I think he said it was about 150 years old! Any oil can go rancid! About the only thing i know of that does not go bad, is honey! Archeologist's have found honey over 2000 years old that was still edible! Now i don't know if anyone has ever tried to preserve coins in it, but who know's!! I would imagine any preservatives would have to be PH neutral, and exclude oxygen! Sounds like some fun experiments could be done with some non-valuable dug or damaged coins! And some small mason jars! Just like canning food!👍👍
  18. Good on you Simon, Talk about positive exposure, the closest I've been to that, is detecting at a clothing optional beach!😊 👍👍
  19. Nice work T, Did you also print the coil ear stiffer, and the pod mounts?? Also, is nylon the strongest printable material, or are there others?? And do you make your own "blueprint" program, or just download a ready made one?? I don't have one yet, but i have been noticing many people using them now!👍👍
  20. Here's the way i look at Oak Island, and all the other related "reality" shows out there! I can seperate the character's like Gary Drayton and Josh Gates, to name just a few; from what they are looking for and the places they visit! It's very obvious that something big went on at Oak Island, for a long period of time! Treasure or not, the history, and the things constructed there are a fascinating look back into the past! Anything beyond the history; meaning a treasure, is what keeps most of the "normal" people watching! And no, we are not "normal" ! Detectorists are a breed apart from the average "Joe"! (Pun intended)! Who else would go out on a beach in a storm, being battered by big waves, to find a few pieces of rusty metal, and maybe an occasional ring, or old coin or two! The same with water hunters; risking jellyfish, stingrays, and bull sharks, to find a few crusty rings and coins! Or the desert guys, stepping around rattlesnakes, and scorpions, in 100 plus heat, to find a few tiny nuggets! We are all "crazy" for history! Weather we know it, or not! If we find some kind of treasure, all the better! But most of the time, the "real treasure" is the people, places, and experiences that are shared by "abnormal" people like us! Anyway, didn't mean to wax poetic there! But i think you get my point! The various show's still feed our addiction, just in a different way than the everyday viewer! That's why we are especially critical of the "characters" seemingly random decisions, and actions! But what we would normally do, would probably bore the hell out of the average viewer, and never come close to fitting into an hour long format! And there lies the rub between "reality", and "entertainment" !👍👍
  21. Great finds again Mn, That gold "nugget" may have been from cremains, and a sea burial! I have found the numbered stainless steel tags, and an amalgam bridge before! I just glue the tags to beach rocks, and throw them back in the ocean! But, i would not do that with a gold crown!😁👍👍
  22. I still follow it, even though their method's can be aggravating many times! One of the few show's i bother to watch on network tv!👍👍
  23. Hello all, The crew is off to a good start! Alot of new people and tech! Gary Drayton has a new and expensive toy to play with! I hope they find "it" this season!👍👍
  24. That hunt is a 2020 winner! Great job! That ring looks like a copper alloy! It still may be old, even though not that worn! Let a jeweler test with a spectrum analyzer, when you take that other beauty to get the stone identified! Great Job!👍👍
