  1. Most likely under all that junk you dug! 👍 Good one. I've got places like that. 🙂
  2. Did you find it in a field? I found lots of big iron in the farms I hunt until I learned to "tune it out". 👍 Hard to speculate without something to compare its size to. Location context helps too. By tune it out I mean ignoring iron tones, and sometimes you have a setting that helps. Falsing stuff takes time to recognize but you almost never get away without digging some. 🙂 And of course sometimes you might want a particular iron relic. 😀
  3. Hope it was imported sand. 😀 The bullets were about 6-8" deep in sand 3 feet below high tide. When I went back that way I noticed the YouTuber dug a couple. Guess I'm an amateur but I think it's good to speak to people. If I find something in front of them I tell them they brought me luck. I excuse myself for blocking their view. Gotta always watch what they're doing, had to stop and wait for some bridesmaids taking selfies. 😅
  4. Add me to the club please! 😀 My experiences with the D2 are almost identical. At first I dug a lot of junk until I got used to those scratchy tones... The light weight and ergo make it a joy to use. On the beach that bottle cap reject (it may be different in v0.7) is a lifesaver. It kills on coins and silver, but it's weird with aluminum bottle caps. I can get past most of the pull tabs now but getting a 91 for anything other than a coin is just... Wrong. 😁 Oh well, the Equinox does similar stuff. I think with some creative notching that I can't do on the Equinox I can get rid of most tabs and still get nickels. It's been fun spending a long time every day at the beach, valuable experience. With the Equinox my junk tally is a lot lower, but will improve over time with the Deus. Excellent post!
  5. Thanks! Honestly after 8 days of this I'll be ready to get back to the relics. 😀 Got one more day. I'm sure I'll get gold eventually!
  6. Hit the beach again today, sorry @Valens Legacy, I took the Deus 2 again. I had a chat with my mentor last night and wanted to try some tweaks. Got out early, nobody there, blah blah. 😀 It wasn't a great morning, but it wasn't too windy either. This is the other side of the pier toward the two hotels. I hunted that side for a couple of hours, really didn't find much but a few pennies and a couple of bullets. Don't know how they got there, they were all .30 caliber and in the same place. I dug two and quit. One thing I've observed is hotel beach is a bit different than general parking beach. ðŸĪ” I found more snack junk and foil and bottle caps at the hotel beach. Went back on the other side of the pier and did a little better. I wasn't using salt sensitivity right, I thought turning it down made it less sensitive, apparently it's the opposite. ðŸĪŠ Cranked it up to 9 and got busy. After the first rusty bottle cap I also cranked bottle cap reject to 5. It seemed like I was hitting better targets, but I also got curious and dug odd signals. The trash is kinda wild: I sight picked almost all of the bottle caps, but those huge beer jug caps are a 91. ðŸ˜ĩ The yellow box is a Mario Brothers Coin candy box, it was such a strange tone I had to dig it. Still had the candy wrapped up in it. The two big bullets are under the sinker, and that's a really old copper ship spike. I would have hated to be on the beach when someone fired all that ammo there! Maybe it was from a replenishment place that is a rifle range. ðŸĪ” Got some more ship copper, very common on these beaches, and the usual stuff. Beach take today: $1.63 in clad and Zincolns, most of it seemed like fresh drops. Two earrings, both .925 silver with stones, a worthless American Eagle snap, and a Saint Anthony medal. Saint Anthony is ironically patron saint for the recovery of lost items 🙄 it's aluminum. I was glad to get more silver, one of the earrings is again gold plated: But clearly says 925 on the stud. The other was a shocker, got this unrecognizable loop of crud when I dug it, but it's silver with stones and you can only put it on one way to make them all show. Women have it rough 😀 It's really ratty but clearly says 925 again. Must have been there for a long time. Most interesting thing was the arrival of a somewhat notable YouTuber when I was about done. I guess detectorists are a competitive lot, none of the three I saw today really wanted to talk or have me in their spot. 😁 Despite them I did okay. Hope they found something!
  7. Well it is gold plated... 🙄 Now I know the meaning of the pink sign, it takes a cunning linguist to figure that one out. 👍 Thanks GB
  8. The bottle cap filter effectively "breaks up" the good tones produced over a bottle cap, kind of an iron balance.. It's a good feature they added with this last release. Just have to be careful with newer releases I haven't installed. I'll try that though with one of the sighted ones tomorrow. 👍 With the Equinox you just push F2 iron balance up a bit, to full on the 600. It works great but I'm always worried I'll miss small gold.
  9. Thanks! I'm going to take the Equinox out for a spin tomorrow. I'm getting used to the Deus, but I miss the simplicity. It is heavier tho. ðŸĪ” They have a warning to stay out of the water, some sort of bacteria. Might be the huge numbers of birds passing through. Thanks for the tip on hunting the high tide detritus, found the frog ring and the chain there! 👍
  10. Glad I haven't seen any Yucca. 😁 The article link pretty much says they put the signs there because people still walk over the dunes ðŸ˜ĩ Worse, people were right up to them today hiding behind the sand fences. Gonna hunt those spots tomorrow! 😈 I'm not particularly afraid of snakes either, I come across a lot of them back home, and let the copperheads go their way. Once I did have to get rid of a 5 foot black snake that was climbing all over the stairs to our RV, then later found mice had gotten in there. ðŸĪŽ Do you ever get down to Tybee? I imagine the finds are better in Hilton Head. 👍 There are no high end accommodations here despite houses selling for millions. It's cheesy like the Outer Banks, that's why we like it.
  11. Thanks! 🙂 It's no prospecting adventure, just a modern day diary I guess. 😁 We did consider moving here about 10 years ago, I had a line on a great possibility in Savannah. Then a farmer bought all the gated community land in front of our house. 😎 Probably never have an HOA fee now.
  12. No way I'd bore y'all with that! ðŸĪĢ one more day, maybe two, but we're outta here soon. I want to get back to the relics. This is fun but no history.
  13. Beautiful but cold day on the island, never got out of the 60s. The sun is so bright it warms you up, but the wind keeps you from getting too warm. It was blowing from the east, about 15mph with gusts to 20. Today I brought the Deus 2 again. I set up my usual beach program, and finally got around to saving it. 😀 I know I'm going to lose it on upgrade, but I will write it down. It isn't a big departure from Beach, just some raised or lowered extremes and bottle cap reject. This morning I went to the big beach, a place a lot of YouTube detecting videos are made. It gets hit the hardest of all. Got there early, almost no one was out. Low tide was 1 hour earlier, I tried to hit the deep spots on the other side of that pier, there's about a half mile of beach to the right, and about 2 miles to the left. I thought I'd see what happened when people came out, the wind was onshore and cold but I didn't think it would deter many. I took this picture after searching the lower tidal area about 2 hours later. Only found a couple of coins, so I went higher to where high tide is, and hunted the reeds and sea grass pushed up on shore (thanks @Joe D.) Did a little better there. At about 10 the beach started filling up, by then I was on the towel and tent line, and digging coins a lot. Nickels were 60 or 61 solid ID, pull tabs 63 or 64, so I got nickels without digging tabs. 😅 This I really like about the Deus 2. At one point I got a strange sounding 42, it was kinda broken up unlike the foil and other junk I was finding. I dug a scoop and a small chain fell out! It was gold. I excitedly looked it over and quickly stuck it in my bag. I can't say I wouldn't have found it with the Equinox, but I wonder ðŸĪ” Here's the booty, much better than yesterday. I had to get back to the campground to grill some tuna. 😀 Got $1.50 in quarters, 2 Maya Angelous. 3 of them were in the same hole. 4 nickels, oldest was a 1975. It was in better shape than the others. 4 dimes, 4 memorials, and 6 Zincolns. One of the Zincolns had a cross stamped through it. Got a zinc frog ring and a lightning bolt earring. Also got my wife a cute bunny ring. 😁 Here's the junk, couple of vaping devices and the typical beach crap: Almost all the bottle caps were sight picked, the rusty ones got me. Maybe I need to turn up reject a bit. 😀 I dug the hairpins to see what a blank ID loud tone was. When I got back I looked over the gold chain with a loupe, it is complete and had a tag that sadly said "925 Italy" with an L and triangle. Looked it up and it is gold plated sterling. My wife still likes it. 🙂 At least I got some silver, and a chain to boot! I've read many times how the Equinox seems to miss them. I'll find out tomorrow (or not) when I return to head up the other way, the tide is in my favor again. 👍 Going to use the Equinox here. Most interesting thing I saw today was this sign on the beach, maybe it's true, maybe it's to keep people out of the dunes 😀 at least I didn't dig one of them. https://www.wtoc.com/story/38945488/tybee-island-warns-beach-goers-of-venomous-snakes-to-keep-them-off-dunes/
  14. Thanks GB, did much better today, post forthcoming. 🙂 All I could think of was "up St. Lawrence way", when my wife and I had a big boat we thought of doing "the loop", some of our yacht club members did it. Seeing the whole trip and hearing about the Bay of Fundy kinda slowed that down. 😁 That was a long time ago.
  15. Posting this for y'all that may think detecting is always fruitful. ðŸĪĢ I went to the beach I've hunted for the past couple days, I had about 4 hours, 2 before and 2 after low tide. Today I had the Deus 2. I spent 2 hours looking for the stainless wallet a fisherman asked me to find, I had hoped that area might be fruitful as well because not many go out there. It was kinda chilly today so not many people out there. This is 3 PM: Poked around the point the fisherman described, it was loaded with big birds with equally big beaks. ðŸĪĢ Maybe I've seen too many Hitchcock films, but it was creepy. it doesn't look like it but there were hundreds of birds there. I searched the tidal pools and looked all around the massive expanse of beach, and decided that the guy's wallet was on its way to the Gulf Stream. Sent him a text saying no luck, and headed back to the other beach. I really didn't get a signal at all! Today I went above the line where I got all those earrings yesterday, and heard next to nothing. My trash was more interesting than my finds: I had to post this in RVpopeye's Post Your Junk thread. It was just too funny. This is maybe the second time in a year and a half of detecting that I got almost totally skunked. All I got was a 1970 quarter as I was about to pack it in. 😀 Well yay. 👍 The most amusing and sad thing was that at one point I heard the unmistakable beeping of a Garrett Carrot, I looked up and there was a guy with a Bounty Hunter Tracker with a backpack and a Carrot coming into the beach, he had a small trowel. I think he saw me too, and when I came back down the beach about 15 minutes later he was putting it away. I didn't see much evidence of him digging anything as I covered the rest of the high ground. One thing I did do was play with bottle cap reject a bit, I'm on the 3/11 version so I had to crank it to 5 to break up the caps today. 3 wasn't getting it, it seems no surprise they made changes for the 0.7 release.
  16. Got one today, total crap hunt except for one quarter. 4 hours on the beach I've already been to twice, 2 hours spent looking for some guys wallet. Went higher up to the towel and tent line and this was it. Got one crusty 1970 quarter. 😀 First near skunk in a long time! 😀
  17. Thanks, went there today with the Deus 2 again, almost total skunk. I've pretty much wiped this beach out, going to another tomorrow. 😀 It's the busiest one so I'm going early. 👍 I went higher on the beach all the way to the dunes. Got one quarter. 😁 There were some faint deep signals, but would require deep digging. So far every time I got a really deep one it was iron or a deep tent stake, 15"+. Since I only have about 4 hours a day I'm sticking to the sure stuff. The waves come from cargo ships mostly, it's the junction of the Savannah river and the Atlantic. They are mini tsunamis, 5-10 foot wakes. Beach I'm going to tomorrow is all Atlantic.
  18. Thanks GB. I think I speak for everyone when I write that you are the consummate numismatist here 😀 👍 I don't have any of the coin books, so your input is greatly valued. 🏆 I'm also out of likes.
  19. For those looking for the headphone adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CZCO9QM They still have it. $24 with free shipping for Prime. Beats not getting it or paying $21 shipping for a $14 item. I paid $159 for the MI-6 on Amazon, my dealer didn't have any. Now it's $200, you're on your own... 🙄
  20. Outta likes but sure will. No doubt I'll find more. 😀 I am still on the earlier version, I was going to bring a laptop just in case, it came out the day I got here. ðŸĪŽ I'm on the 3/11 update. Wish I could be more help.
  21. Great testing! I'll probably lower it to 3 today, thanks. Going after rings on the beach. 👍 Also looking for a stainless wallet somebody lost.
  22. Yeah so I've heard. 😀 There is a tide up in the northeast that's about 50 feet up St. Lawrence river way I think. (Bay of Fundy) Where I am on the Potomac back home, the tide is a scary 1.5 feet. 😎 I'll pass on Alaska, too many bugs when it's warm, and it's not. Heck I have to drive 600 miles to see a palm tree. ðŸĪĢ
  23. The mint mark is stamped on the edge, if you find a San Francisco mint dollar, they only made 1.5 million of them. They were minted in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. 👍
