  1. My guess is brass trunk or box handle. Nice find, one of those things that doesn't fit in a display case πŸ™‚
  2. On another note, one buying this pointer must remember the bulk of sensitivity is toward the tip. It may false as non ferrous when the target is on the side of the device, but if it goes ferrous at all it is going to be right. That I do know from experience. I'll always try it at different angles.
  3. I sure will. πŸ™‚ Its ability to discriminate is why it's still in my bag along with my other pinpointer, be it the AT or the MI-6. Chase got me on the right path with the latter, adjusting the sensitivity made it much more useful. I also like pitch rather than pulse. I can understand why some don't use it, but if you hate digging deeper holes and hunting around in a hole with multiple targets, If I'm not mistaken the Quest is the only game in town. I don't like carrying two pinpointers but it's useful. Shame the holster has a terrible snap, 😡 It doesn't stay on. I am going to replace it with a tougher one.
  4. And you may have a point there. Maybe it's the Equinox and now the Deus setting it off. I'll try placing the detector further awayπŸ€”
  5. What a great story and hunt! πŸ‘Nice job of opportunity. Looks like you got about 2.60 in change, a few bits o' junk, an interesting relic, and a very interesting couple of rings. πŸ™‚ I dug a gold ring similar to the one you dug, turned out to be solid 10k from acid testing. Mine had no hallmarks. Clue was it got "golder" the more I cleaned it. Guess that's a stack of Zincolns on the top right. Good one Cap'n! Edit: that ring could be what is called a "toi et moi" ring, my wife called it : https://lindseyscoggins.com/spotlight-on-toi-et-moi-rings
  6. I like my X pointer Max, I'm also waiting for palzynski's review. I did review it at length: https://www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/17350-quest-xpointer-max-review-update-2/#comment-180764 Argh, not good at inserting posts. πŸ˜€ Not onea the cool guys yet... πŸ€” It is quirky as all get out. Had to turn the sensitivity down to high from boost. Another user said he cuts it back to low or medium., It goes insane quickly even then, haven't tried lower. I've seen the Propointer AT with wireless do this too. Just starts beeping. I have to turn it off and on again, and while concentrating on my dig it's tough to find the on/off button. That aside I always have it with me for those deep holes and iffy signals. One time it netted me a tiny thin silver ring in a hole full of iron bits, and many times it has saved me from further digging on large iron. I like how rugged it is. Would I make it my only pinpointer? Nope. I think that the old Propointer AT is still the best that I have used, and the XP MI-6 is growing on me. Wish I could get my hands on a White's Bullseye TRX, but I'm good for now. πŸ˜€ I've been watching Quest for updates or fixes but I don't think any are forthcoming.
  7. That's quite a lot of trash ya got there. πŸ™‚ At least you scored some clad, and can pat yourself on the back for getting the junk out of the way. Is that some kind of pottery? Must be mineralized or have some sort of iron content. So far Deep HC has produced similar results for me except for a gold pin I got in a place littered with nails. It's probably just plate as it was a 63, but I'll probably test it. That mode does seem to false a lot, but only because I'm not used to it yet. People with more experience with the Deus are recognizing something I'm not yet. πŸ€” It took me quite a while to sort out iron with the Equinox, so this is going to be similar I think. In this place I used Relic all day and didn't dig much iron because it always was a lot louder than the pennies that were 82. If your volume is over 7 beware with that mode, you can cause yourself some hearing damage. Relic seemed to force more iron to ID as iron, but a few large pieces still ID'd high. All tones were pretty similar, whether good or bad. The loud ones were really loud. I'm not a Deus 2 authority yet, you might have posed this question to everyone in a separate thread, but someone might catch this. πŸ™‚ The bullets look too mangled to identify. One might be a flat pistol ball, and there's nothing with the other to compare. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
  8. Awesome. πŸ‘ For a minute there I thought you stuffed the ebikes and dog bed into the 280. 🀣 Jk I just got one of them for my D2, how do you like it? You are going to love retirement. Retired from a school district myself a year and a half ago. My wife worked there to and retired before me. The first couple months you're going to have to fix all the stuff that you were going to get around to, but after that you'll be free. πŸ˜€
  9. Awesome. So what did I win? 🀣 Ironic you dug that and a Lincoln penny. πŸ˜€ Great find and truly a historical piece. πŸ‘ Best of luck to you today!
  10. Welcome back, GD. Sorry to read about your difficulty. Glad you're back up and "running" your finds are always fascinating. πŸ‘ That looks strikingly similar to the tag you posted last time, guess this one isn't stamped, and for a different, um... Plantation? It's there more detail? I'm a huge Georgia fan, heading there very soon. πŸ™‚
  11. Great coin! πŸ‘Looks like you have the phone orientation bug too. 😡 I have to edit everything now.
  12. Thanks Hugh, I'll write a review of it, going to use it some next week. Long walk to one of the beaches. The 280 has some nice pouches, and seemed a little more robust for carrying water and other heavy items. I'm sure gonna look like Johnny Detectorist... 🀣
  13. Now one of those is on the way! Thanks Cap'n and DP forum for ensuring I'm at the bleeding edge, and bleeding broke 🀣
  14. That's quite a story. And quite a lot of work! I see you got a Merry widow tin, an amusing find. πŸ˜€ Now I want to know who brought their train set to the pond... πŸ€”
  15. Sure, come in down to VA 🀣 Only about 15 hours I used to live in northern CT, and another 3 at the traffic jam in Fredericksburg. Seriously, see a a farmer out in the field, or a homeowner out in the yard at a house you have your eye on, stop, compliment their place first, and ask. The most important thing to do is let them talk about the place, no matter how long they talk. You have to do that again if they come out while you're there too. Not only will you get background history, but you will make a friend, and they will not only refer you to to other places, they will bend over backwards to think of other hunting places for ya. This works in the South, a little respect goes a long way. If you're arrogant, pushy, or impatient, you're toast. Respect and honor is everything. I have not yet been turned down. Maybe it's the fact that I'm a trustworthy looking geezer, maybe it's the fact that I spent most of my career getting good deals on network equipment, and was a technician. Maybe it's both. πŸ˜€ I sure ain't good looking. Welcome to the forum, and I wish you the best of luck. Great handle, BTW. πŸ™‚
  16. Did you try connecting the RC to a computer so as to update it? That may also interrupt the loop. It's just a WAG. Worst case you will return it to factory settings.
  17. Sadly I was worse than that, I told her once I'll get her a lump of coal, and if she sits on it for 100,000,000 years she'll be good to go. 😬 Good thing she has a sense of humor πŸ€” Now I have to put my money where my mouth is. 🀣
  18. Hey Mark, Thanks for the nice post, and to be the one of the few other than me to mention the big iron falsing. The Equinox does it too, but like the Equinox it just takes a while to learn the audio and the characteristics of coming upon a falsing iron target, I equate it to playing a particular sequence in a video game until you're good at it. πŸ˜€ I'm not a big gamer but possibly that is an acquired discipline. Most people don't post their trash, I'm keeping it real. I've been using iron bias on the Equinox to assist with some kinds of trash like shotgun shells, it pushes the cheap alloys to an iron tone, and I dig far less trash. The older shells are still a problem, guess they used better alloys. There are lots of hunters here. On the 600 you can't push it far enough to lose nickels. It's a crutch, but it works. There's no bias control on the Deus, so I'm back at square one. 🀬 There are some people looking into Disc IAR in relic mode, I'm going to as well but I'm not gonna be going out this week because I'm getting ready to go to the beach for a week and everything is going to be different 🀣 I'm looking forward to the new permission when I get back, but also can't wait to get out on the beach. I'm going to use the Equinox the first day, and alternate the Deus until I decide which one does a better job. I think it's gonna be about the same. πŸ™‚ My wife wants a diamond 😁
  19. I got them both in this offer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08MQXDBWD After some research I pulled the trigger, looked like I got the pouch for $10, better than nothing. The pouch isn't all that great but it's good to have a backup rig. I wore two pouches out last year.
  20. Any silver coin makes a good day a great one, but I'm happy with a button. πŸ€” Nice hunt. πŸ‘
  21. I wanted to buy that headphone adapter from that link. Unfortunately the flat rate shipping charge on what could be put in an envelope was outrageous. 😡 It was much more than the item.
  22. Out of likes. 😟 I've seen Robert Cray many times. At that show after he gave me the guitar we took photos together. They asked me if I wanted to stay backstage, but a band called Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters were warming up. It sounded so good I told them I wanted to go out to my seat! Never regretted that. Sat there enthralled with my Strat. πŸ˜€ These guys gave him a boardroom marker to sign the guitar, so I had to coat the signature with polyurethane. It was a cheap imported one, ended up selling it for twice as much as it cost on eBay. 🀣 I still have the photo though. Great man.
  23. You could try and update it with a computer, that could take it out of the loop. Only other option I saw anywhere but would not recommend is disconnecting the battery, you'd have to take it apart. Just make sure you're not in the diving program, if you have the 3 padlocks, just press them in the sequence they are flashing.
  24. Wow, coming from the heavy hitters! πŸ™‚ Thank you Jeff, I am just hacking around and posting noob observations while waiting for Chase's view on the D2. I know for sure he's the kind of person who will not post anything without full research and thought. I may be off base often. I expect and welcome being bashed, that's how I learn. Consider me a "rural observer" πŸ˜€ I'm off to the beach very soon, going to use my Equinox 600 and the Deus 2 on alternate days. That should be very illuminating. I don't want anyone to think I'm some sort of expert, what I've done here is document my progress from rank amateur to now, which is still basically rank amateur. I'm just a very lucky guy to get some of the permissions I have which can produce some good stuff. The conditions are perfect for that as Chase will attest. I do have sort of an analytical mind but lack the basics - i.e. older detectors - and a number of them. It's tough to be relevant here without ruffling feathers, and that's the last thing I want to do. I'm getting good practice. πŸ™‚ I appreciate this group more than anyone might guess.
