  1. I can't prove this but I think certain types of hearing loss may be a benefit to detecting-sometimes. My hearing is so acute that I can hear a few small rain drops hitting my akubra hat...the point being I hear every little sound. Others that could not hear as well had a much easier time in that Nevada ground... fred
  2. the white paper says they are available free from your Minelab dealer... fred
  3. no doubt about it, the gmt is hard to beat for sensitivity... fred
  4. Thanks Norvic; Now i understand the process and the reasoning... fred
  5. Thanks, I use the convenience 12v outlet that most new trucks have, not the cig lighter outlet. I could go direct to the battery but why would I want to lift the hood every night after detecting...that would be a pain. I think I will just fix a charging port in my trailer with the deep-cycle and some solar chargers...and save the truck for when I am traveling as Mitchel does. I must say this has never been an issue with any other Minelab 12v charger that I have ever used...oh well. fred
  6. And thank you Steve...i guess I need to learn to read better...or believe what I read... I hope you are having a golden spring! fred
  7. Thanks Guys. Dale, I noticed while visiting Oz that transport is set-up for being on one's own. Chargers, solar-power and freezers everything to provide for a long term stay in the beautiful vast spaces of OZ...you folks have it figured out for sure! fred
  8. I seen this issue on the oz forum...is anyone besides me having a problem with the 12v charger for the gpz? I have two- one for my ctx and one for the 7000 and they both behave badly...when I plug one into the 12v outlet in my truck it starts flashing red while charging. The manual says this means there may not be enough battery to pull juice from the truck battery...my truck battery is brand new. So, I carry a small invertor and plugged that into the 12v outlet, then the battery charger into the inverter...the charger worked fine but my truck battery was drawn down and I had to jump it... so, the second question is this; does the inverter draw a huge amount of amps to go from 12v to 110v to charge a the zed battery??? Also, is the sensitivey of the minelab chargers adjustable ???? thanks fred
  9. I dug a hole like that expecting/hoping for at least a 1/2 oz...."only" 2.83 dwt....or about 5 grams fred
  10. Steve's many mods and my best friend have shown me that I don't have to adjust myself to the equipment; I can adjust some of the equipment to me... thanks for another great idea! fred
  11. Norvic, I mount the hip stick on my harness and set it back to the side a bit...otherwise it will grind on your hipbone...and if mounted on your pants will make them slip down...no one wants to see low-riders on me... fred
  12. Those are cool-even upside down... I frequently pu interesting rocks and keep them until I forget why they were interesting or until they no longer interest me. Then I give them to someone. fred
  13. if they had let me and Grey Weaver in there in 1980 we could have all been rich...the owner then didnot believe detectors could find gold in a hardrock mine... oh well fred
  14. I tried a couple of methods to balance and hang the detector from my harness and hipstick. These pics show clearly how I did it. Attaching the bottom of Doc's bungy on the right and then bringing the top connector through a d-ring on the left does a few things. This attachment helps eleviate some of the twist that the detector wants to do, it keeps the bungy in line for maximum lift and control, you can turn the detector loose and it won't fall to the ground and it makes swinging the detector very easy on worn-out wrists and elbows. Also, it keeps the bungy up and away from my fairly large hands...comfort and convenience thanks to the Hip-stick, Doc's Bungy and a little modification by me... fred
  15. If you don't mind the whine of a swarm of mosquitoes, Norms settings work very well. I tried them and had a headache in five minutes-but, I am a delicate little thing... I was having a terrible time with my zed but then Norm reminded me of one very important thing. You must use the start-up procedure when going to a new area. I have no clue nor excuse for forgetting that-but, I did...stupider and stupider... The settings that worked best for me were from LUNK. Thank you, Lunk!!! I did adjust the tone and threshold a bit to suit my ears. I love my 7000 fred
  16. my sister-Rosemary and Bro-in-law-David lived on the corner. I lived across the street next door to The family that ran the trash service and owned the theater, if I remember correctly....nmaes have faded away. fred
  17. sorry for the confusion-getting old and stupid-er... i miss Plumas County, Portola and Quincy in particular...as for the Chili, it generally is served where ever I am camping... fred
  18. Norm, you can use Crow in place of Pork for my chili verde...such a cry baby and you found the biggest of the trip!!!! fred
  19. nice ring, Mitchel! I use a hipstick and Doc's bungy cord with the big coil at the beach...when using the stock coil I donot use the hipstick, either setup keeps my ctx3030 detector out of the sand. fred
  20. very nice...I am tired just from watching the digging! fred
