  1. the charts were produced as part of the GPZ sales and development...real world results by professions such as Jp and Steve; and amateur results such as mine have certainly verified the ability of the GPZ 7000. fred
  2. I just read a book Norm told me about;"twenty miles from a match"...so take matches ,food, warm clothes and lots of water...even in the winter a body needs to be watered... fred
  3. Thanks, Monte; You are way too smart for me... I guess this thread has morfed a bit...I always ground-balance my 3030 and have not seen much ground or any beach on the west coast that qualifies for no GB... The readings definitely change with the coin mode selected. Even in all metal there is some iron discrimination so it is not true all-metal. I am just a dilettante in the detecting world so I have no answer to most of your questions-I am confident that Steve or others could. I did go out to my park yesterday and climbed up a hill I visited years and years ago. I was much surprised to dig a 1917 Canadian penny on my way up...nothing exciting after I got there...went back to the park and got a 1927 merc...lovely weather and a good day detecting. fred
  4. I have always preferred small or large coils to get an edge over stock coils. Monte, your comments about testing with a pile of silver coins got me wondering about my 3030. So, I borrowed a silver dollar and 4 half silver dollars and tested them with my small 3030 coil...I was surprised that the readout went so high to the upper right corner that it nearly disappeared...i think the readout was like 1:46...the sound was right but I might have passed up a similar reading a few days ago in my favorite old park...I won't do that again! thanks for the education fred
  5. " A series of fractional denomination gold coins was privately minted from 1852 to 1882. These tiny gold coins tried to meet the huge demand for small change in a booming economy. Mostly issued by San Francisco area jewelers, these coins were struck in 25 cent, 50 cent and one-dollar denominations in round or octagonal shapes. " I have seen these at gold shows or coin shows...don't know how many were minted but they would be easy for a drunk miner to lose... fred
  6. just imagine how many of the small change gold coins are waiting, they would certainly read as foil. The beauty of old camps is that they are not usually infested with aluminum junk. Aluminum was not a common material in the 1800s or early 1900s...my point being that digging all nonferrous targets could produce some real nice coins. fred
  7. Good luck with the prospecting. I do not understand why you think there won't be coins to find, the Spanish have been there for nearly 600 years...not to mention other cultures with lots of gold and silver and jewels... fred
  8. In my idle time I often read posts that I may have passed on when they were fresh. I don't recall seeing this mentioned on this forum. It is quite a long trip to shop but hey....just to visit with Jonathan and family would be worth the cost. Congratulations JP and Frieda; may your cash-drawer always be full! http://golddetecting.4umer.net/t22950-new-minelab-dealer best wishes fred
  9. I made you some hot, fresh oatmeal cookies with chocolate- chips and walnuts... they won't last long MERRY CHRISTMAS a little early fred
  10. nice setup...I think Docs swingy-thingy bungy and Chris' HIPSTICk would let you swing the big coils all day...might help with the little coil too... fred
  11. Gee whiz, Chris; why be such a skeptic??? Just teasing, sorry mr Spenser i have nothing constructive to add...just being bad... fred
  12. hey Rege; Merry Christmas!!! two nuggets and a ?meteorite?....did Detech put pics of gold on their coils to fool me? hope you are doing good fred
  13. Paul; when there is lots of surface trash, how do you get past that to the deeper signals? Are you hunting iron relics or nonferrous relics? Have you tried the Hi-trash setting? I think running in tracking over metallic targets would throw the Gb way off....i always ran in fixed and used the button for gb and to re-gb... fred
  14. Hey Scott; those are fantastic relics from yesteryear and a fine tribute to your grandpa. I was talking to my nephew Carl and found out what bad boys you two were....some funny stories! fred
  15. Pi detectors love iron at any depth and any size. If you can accomplish what you want; it might be done with a large DD coil and set the discrimination to 3/4 or full on...I doubt it will work if the ground is littered with small nails or tin can bits... I have worked right through old dumps with a 11"dd and full disc...if the ground was not a carpet of iron the detector could pick out nonferrous things like rivets or 22 bullets...I never did snag a nugget doing that and the noise nearly drove me insane ( more so than normal). good luck fred
  16. My first detector was a Garret deepseeker vlf/tr. No vlf I have had since then went deeper. using reverse discrimination it was 100% accurate according to the discrimination setting. Of course thing got easier with the next model but the finds got leaner... Steve; excellent primer or refresher on VLF's in the current ICMJ... fred
  17. I think Coiltec still has a mini-amp...which I used on my 2200 and gp extreme. I liked Doc's amp ; I did not have to remember to turn it off ...used on 3500 and 5000 I really like the JP's BZ Booster with dual speakers or with sony earbuds or regular headphones...but I do have to remember to turn it off. Used on the 3500, 5000 and now the GPZ fred
  18. Paul, you have to ZONE-IN when detecting ,not OUT! nice nugget with many more to follow fred
  19. Nice play/work, Boys! My GPZ is the most expensive toy I ever have bought...I may never recover the total cost in money, I do not really care, it is my toy. You go get your own...it is mine, all mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fred
  20. Hey Paul; you could start a business. Toddlers for Treasure! If you keep it in the family the child labor laws do not apply... Happy holidays fred
  21. no need to be frustrated just head down here to mostly sunny San Diego...miles of beaches and parks to detect! fred
  22. dang, Steve, I hope you get a free detector out of all that work! excellent review and continuing commentary. fred
  23. Yes, Australians don't worry about anything...it'll be right mate...no worries mate.... Three trips to Oz and I only found one little Brown or maybe he found me but we went our separate ways in peace. Shorts and flip-flops;sounds like Bob Armstrong who is an excellent gold hunter and a very interesting fellow. fred
