  1. Well Pard had second thoughts about his posting his finds and edited his post to remove them.
  2. Thanks Mike, I'm glad to hear it's a genuine report, I think these specimens/ nuggets are the largest being reported found with Minelab's GPZ 7000 to date, very exciting to see!!
  3. Here's a link to 2 specimens found yesterday, no story posted, just photos and weights of 12.2 ounces and 4.25 ounces!!! Not sure of the truth in this report, the thing that has me wondering is that the larger specimen sure looks to have had an acid treatment/soaking to clean it up/remove some of the quartz and usually that would take more than overnight in most cases? http://arizonaoutback.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=12026&pid=69813&st=0entry69813 I would love the hear more about these finds and if indeed this is a genuine report.
  4. Thanks for your insight Barry! This link is where I first saw this about the budget proposal, it's says that it is Obama's budget proposal. http://www.mineweb.com/regions/usa/hardrock-miners-get-shafted-obama-budget/
  5. Well said Steve! There's still good ground left with gold to be found, but it's privately owned land but most the land owners aren't giving permission to hunt most of these private lands, the gold rush on public land is the gold bearing land that's about played out!!
  6. I posted this info at the first of this month on many of the gold forums, not many seemed interested and most of those that responded think it will only apply to lode claims, but I think otherwise, I don't see how this cannot affect both lode and placer claims, it's a backdoor attempt to completely change/get rid of the 1872 mining laws, IMHO!! Most seems to have the "let's wait and see what this is really about" mindset, once they see "what it's about" it will be too late. I have recommended that everyone contact their representatives to stop this budget proposal before it's too late. This leasing and royalty plan is what all the environmentalists have been going after for many years now and they now have a partner in the White House that will try his best to make it happen if we don't speak up and make some noise!!
  7. It would appear that if someone with a CTX wanted to spend the money for the lower GPZ shaft, 3 hard rubber bushings of the correct size and a through bolt would make it possible to mount the CTX coil on the shaft, the offset cable of the CTX coil I don't would be much of an issue as long as the center rubber bushing didn't prevent the cable from entering the GPZ shaft. As you said, if money isn't an issue, it looks like it's a doable way to have a longer shaft for a CTX.
  8. Nice comparison Steve, can you post a photo of the CXT coil mounting to it's rod, would the CTX coil lugs fit inside of the "Y" of the GPZ lower rod?
  9. Happy Birthday Ray, glad you could get out a make it a golden birthday, even though you had to make the arduous trek into that gold field!!! That's a nice nugget, it sorta looks like a mini "Boot Of Cortez"
  10. Whatever insurance you may find that will cover the theft of a metal detector, just listing it with your insurance company may not be enough, make sure you have detailed clear photos or video of the detector and all the accessories, this includes clear photos of the model numbers, serial numbers, and have the receipts if possible and store all of this proof in a fireproof safe or in a safety deposit box, if you have ever tried to get insurance companies to cover any losses from your home, car, etc. either from fires, flood, or thief, you will know these photos, videos, receipts are a must if you expect any coverage of your losses, especially full replacement coverage, this applies to anything you are expecting your insurance to replace fully or part of the value under a insurance policy if a loss occurs, some items such as jewelry, art or similar items that have no way to determine current value I would suggest you have a fairly recent appraisal to expect to get full replacement value under your policies!!! Don't learn the disappointment of finding out some items will not be covered by your insurance because you couldn't prove you had them and or what their values were the hard way by not having documented proof of such!! As we all know insurance can be more expensive then we would like and most of the time it's never needed, but do your own due diligence if you expect that insurance to live up to your expectations of why you purchased it to begin with, I can assure you the insurance companies will do their very best to not cover all of the losses you hoped it would cover and in some cases none at all if you can't provide positive proof of the losses in your claim!
  11. I you're finding lots of trash, it tells me that not many detectors have been in the area, so keep beeping, after you get most of the trash out of the way is when you could start finding nuggets that were hidden/masked by the trash. Don't hesitate to going back over ground that you have already detected especially if you do so perpendicular to the direction you detected it before, many nuggets have been found by doing this, this is especially applies in areas where you have found nuggets.
  12. Diorite https://www.google.com/search?q=Diorite&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=0JviVN3rB4PugwSa-oDIDQ&ved=0CFAQsAQ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diorite
  13. Rick, I'm not so sure I would cut into those "eggs" maybe an alien inside them, once you release one it will release all the others , it will be Orson Wells all over again, the War of The Worlds, Martians attacking everywhere!!!
  14. Jason, I can see where you're right with the companies being behind the times when comparing the electronics of detectors to computers and smartphones of today and as the younger tech savvy generation future detectorists are getting into this hobby I can see this being the future of detectors. That being said and in respect of not hijacking this topic, maybe you could start a new topic on this subject and see what the interest of others on this subject is.
  15. I agree that having detectors that are tweakable/hackable would most likely not be a great selling point, while there are some detectorists that have the tech know how to do the hacking to personalize a detector to their liking, a large percentage of detectorists will most likely make the detector less sensitive than it was originally, if not completely useless. On another note, I'm not all that knowledgeable on how detectors and coils are tuned to each other, but if I'm not mistaken a coil has nothing but winding inside it with no electronics, so therefore I believe that a detector is tuned to the particular a coil/s instead of the coil/s being tuned to the detector, anyone with knowledge of this tuning process please add your input.
  16. Areas of once deep overburden that has been removed to expose new ground, and I agree on the tree root balls being good to check out in good gold bearing areas.
  17. Thanks Steve, I would also like to add and give thanks to Nugget Shooter's 6 active Moderators who do a great job when Bill and I are not on the forum, we all work as a group to keep the forum on a even keel, we also as a group vote on forum policy/rules changes and actions towards violations of forum rules, without our Moderators it would be a very tough job at times!
  18. Steve and JP, I have much respect for your commitments to Minelab, Bill at Nugget Shooter forum and I as an Administrator (Au Seeker) while trying our best to allow freedom of speech do not and will not allow personal badgering between members or personal attacks towards it's members, if you have any issues there please let me know immediately, I try my best to catch such replies quickly, but I may miss one while at work.
  19. From the statement you just made it's appears to me that the Ace series is the detector to buy for your MIL, they are a great value for the money and work very well for their price range, easy to operate for a beginner and can be sold as used for little lost in investment if your MIL losses interest, or you can keep it for friends to try out their hand at a new hobby!!!
  20. Steve, I believe I have seen every piece of gold you've ever have found and posted photos of, at the beginning of this last entry for 2013, I was puzzled that I didn't remember ever seeing that "half pounder with cheese", and at the end of the story I read why, thanks for posting it!!!
  21. Does the hump fold down so you can lay out your sleeping bag?
  22. I agree, I have felt that way for a many number of years, it's a shame that a good new vehicle now cost as much as a small home, I have never bought a new vehicle, if it isn't at least 3 to 4 years old and has depreciated substantially, I'm not interested. That being said, I could change my mind if I hit the lottery!!
  23. Steve, it maybe just the photo of the GPZ 7000 but it appear to me that not only is the battery bigger, but it seems that the housing is longer than the CTX 3030's housing, what do you think?
  24. Welcome Jeffery, thanks for being active and giving of your time and advice, I will look forward to your posts and advice!
