My question is in the description. Does the AQ see all gold as low conductors. I have some big 18K and some mid sized 22K rings that give high numerical numbers on my Whites MX7 and from memory a high tone on my CZ21 (no longer have). I also recall a high tone on a pure gold nugget on a gold chain with the CZ21. I understand that golds conductivity diminishes as more alloys are added to the mix. Will these bigger and higher karat gold rings be “low conductors” ? And finally......how does the AQ see platinum rings. I’d hate to miss any of the items described above. Thanks for any replies or first hand experience.

I may have fell out of my tree again because here’s something I just don’t understand. You got a Limited AQ selling for 1500 and here come summer you have another AQ that will be selling for over a thousand more than the Limited. The word Limited is just referring to the number of detectors made on that run and as we’ve been told that number was 100 . What I’d like to know is the Limited ones also limited in brains as one would have to think that justifies the new AQ such a increase in price that goes with it . If it’s face is one only a mother could love with a bunch of knobs that okay . I’ve seen some of the best detectors ever made have nothing but knobs. I do have ears and I’ve been digging on sounds for years. I thank you ahead because I know somebody out there can answer my question and at the same time reduce the pressure on my brain when I think too hard. Chuck

I was wondering if anyone has ordered anything from this company before. I'm assuming my headphones dies on the AQ, so I wanted to get the cable and have someone build me a new set of headphones. This company has the 5 pin M8 connector needed for the AQ I think. It also has the ones that are "L" shaped which would look to be a better way to have the cable come out of the battery. Had a chance to get 2 beach hunts in with the GPX and AQ and was pleasantly surprised that the conditions at this beach had changed for the better. It was going to be a 50/50 split between both machines, so that I could get the benefits of both machines technologies. Started out great with the AQ, but unfortunately the headphones started making a loud clicking noise. I figured out the thin wire had finally given out. Then it completely stopped working. The conditions were perfect for trying out the AQ in Tone mode, since there was almost no trash, or small iron left in this spot. So high tones and grunts meant nickels/gold/ huge iron or silver/clad. The AQ scored a lot of nickels, paper thin worn coins and 8 silver dimes before it died. So the hunt continued with the GPX. That patch was on fire giving me the most silver in a single hunt ever, along with the greatest 2 day total as well. The area covered was about 20 x 30 feet, as I had 3 other detectorists around me on either side. This area was sand with packed cobbles beneath it, so I paid the price after digging in that for 2 days. The ring is 14K and was the only gold found, surprisingly. Now, I love my AQ, but honestly not being a durable machine kind of makes it take a back seat to my other machines. I have been gentle with this machine, but I did a lot of holes. Those two days I estimate digging almost 250 holes and I beach hunt generally once a week. I would love to get a new set of headphones (not stock), but if I remember the connector is hard to get??? If anyone has info on that, please let me know where I can get one. I would have Tony make me a set in a heartbeat. It's not often that the beach gives you those kind of conditions, so I was happy to be there at the right time. I can't wait to get back and see if the conditions are still good.

I’m fairly sure the production model next to appear will not be digital. For me, I am quite satisfied with the limited and Joes battery with a M12 phone jack. I have several mods already on one of my machines. For those who hunt the water, sand and grit can play havoc with that cam lock. Either it is hell to get loose or hell to get tight. Here is my solution below. Good luck everybody.

It's been a while since I had a chance to get out with the AQ. Finally, a semi good low tide at a beach where you can walk out a long ways during a good low tide. I've been itching to try the AQ at this beach. I only had about 2 hours of very low tide to work with in the furthest away section, so I concentrated on the lowest areas. I also had my maiden voyage with my new scoop - the XTREME Surf-Master X3 with the carbon fiber handle. On this beach you either have packed rocks, packed shells or that stagnant, clay like, dark sand (smells good too 😂). The scoop had no issues with any of that. I was very impressed on how it handled and how I could bury the large scoop and pry it out of that clay like silt. I will have no issues with this scoop when I start to do some water hunting. 2 hours passes quickly, so no gold for me this time. Most of the other 3 hours was spent waiting for the low tide, so most of the junk came from that period. I was actually shocked at the lack of targets when the tide dropped. I expected many more deep targets, but it was rather quiet the whole time. I may have dug 20 targets in that 2 hour period. A total lack of coins too! Very unusual for me to hunt 5 hours and only get 4 coins. Settings were: All metal, ATS 3, Sensitivity 4+, Delay 7. Got a little bit of deep lead and 2 shot gun shells that could have been gold, but I'm thinking the gold sinks way lower that I am able to get to. Best find was a Buffalo nickel at around 12". Shotgun shells were about 14 - 15". Also found that, what I'm thinking is slag, sounds deep and quiet and fools you into thinking you have a deep, small target. All in all I had a great time trying my new scoop and trying my best guess at deep settings on the AQ.

Did a quick hunt the other day and dug only coins. This has to do with the "training" that Canadian coins have given me. In a way they are a "median" target--part non-ferrous and part steel. What this means is that they have characteristics of both. So with a clean processing pulse like the AQ--you have a narrow signal (imagine a tube carrying the response up) with some wide or maybe irregular characteristics. Point being that they make good "trainers" teaching you to look for even poor examples of a narrow response. Then when you hear some clean gold...unmistakable. Foils and tabs will do the same thing but are still not as good of conductors. If you are in soft material focussing on deep heavy targets this is a very strong tool for ID'ing responses with the AQ. Very glad that caps sound wide on this machine. With a pulse that processes at this level the principle of "carry" (see illustration) is even more important. With some VLFs--Hieneken caps are similar to Canadian coins--steel--but with lots of aluminum in there too--right on the border--and for this reason a good teaching tool. cjc

Hi guys! Finally 2021 arrived and we are still waiting for the AQ.It would be nice if someone could confirm if the release date for the final product is still in April as i heared before? I found a link for a pre-order of the final unit at a UK website(Joe Allen) but they have removed it.That was a bit strange.Any report on the 8 coil and even price which Joe do right now would be interesting as well.any comments?

Did the last few hours of daylight on the day of arrival with the Excal to check the beach, got one of the .50 cal shells a .50 cal point, a quarter, dime and penny; the rest of the week was all AQ. Did pretty well identifying iron. Spent nearly the entire time in all metal mode. On the open wet sand, it is easier to identify iron by walking around it and sweeping from all directions; something that is difficult if not impossible to do in the water. There were a few pieces of iron that fooled me. They are in the one picture towards the bottom, near center. Got a new style wedding band, no markings but probably stainless with either abalone or mother of pearl; not sure which. The ring was deep. It was a five scooper and was not in the side of the hole, was at dead center of where the first scoop was. That is what I have been hoping for with the AQ; now I just need to get the right metal. Got a couple of junk earrings that are fairly well encrusted and, unfortunately, stick to a magnet. Got a junk heart ring that looks to be copper, not extremely deep, Excal or CZ would have had no problem hitting that one. I did dig somewhere north of 100 bottle caps, did not count them all and threw them away before coming home. The one day that was "extremely deep bottle cap day" I counted 33 bottle caps. In front of some hotels when I'm high in the wet sand, near the dry, I would get interference that changing the frequency setting did not help. ATS at 8 or a little higher helps, dropping sensitivity down to 2 with the higher ATS quiets it down. Tried tone and mute modes and they were a little worse than all metal. As I get further from the offending interference, I can take the sensitivity up again. Some hotels gave no problems, some were chatty until adjustments were made. For the week, mostly hunting with sensitivity at 5 or 6, ATS at 5 and delay at 7.5. Interesting that near and under the pier that for years has made other detectors chirp, the AQ is quiet. Must be different kinds of interfering signals that affect the different detectors. Now that I’ve had a chance to spend time over open wet sand areas, coil control is important to keep from sounding at swing ends, it is the up and down motion by being sloppy, not the sided to side sweep, that sounds a little on the wet sand. The ergonomics of the AQ are excellent and help in that respect, particularly when I start to get tired and coil control is not as precise as when I’m fresh. I did a bit of calf deep wave wash area (that is where the Pandora bracelet was found) and found the AQ to be pretty quite (delay 7.5, ATS 5, Sensitivity 5, all metal), The wave wash was not too bad of a drag on the big coil, although it was not fast moving waves ... the conditions were being nice to me. Gold rings number 2 and 3 today with Fisher AQ. The smaller ring was down at least 8 inches and the bigger ring was down at least 10 inches. Very faint signals and could have walked right over them. The rings were found in wet sand. This was my seventh outing with the new detector. Still struggling with some falsing. Any advice would be appreciated. Mostly from a left to right swing. I do take extra precaution to make sure I am not arcing the swing. On a fully charge battery I can run pretty hot and it will be quiet. About an hour into the hunt I need to make adjustment. Today the battery lasted about 2 hour 45 minutes using ALL METAL mode. Eventually I was running with a delay of 10 than switched to 11, sensitivity of 8, ATS was either at a 3 or an 8. I also had to lower the threshold to the point of silence. I don't like running it that way but I hit both rings in the position. I also hit a couple of deep nickels that were 12 to 14" easily.

I see the limited AQ for sale over seas now on Joan Allen detectors. $1377.00 cheaper than I paid.

My first time out all I got was 2.5 hours before the red flashing low batter light started to flash and sound off. My second hunt was 2 hours went I called it quits due to weather. I then did batter check at the end of the hunt, the light was yellow assuming I had less than 30 minutes. left. So my second hunt would have lasted no more than 2.5 hours. Here are my setting: Volume 8, sensitivity 5 to 6, threshold 3-4, ATS 8, reject 6, mode was TONE, delay frequency 7.5 for an hour and 8 for an hour. I know the lower the delay frequency the more battery drain. When I charge, it is full charge in 2.5 to 3 hours. I left it on for 5 hours just to be safe. So my question is, what is your average battery life on your hunts?

Does anyone have a picture of an AQ just slipped out of the box before it is taken off the 'board?' I need to send mine back and I want to repack it the way it came to me and I didn't take a picture.

Water is starting to get chilly. 46 Tuesday. I was good for 2 hours and 44 minutes but ran out of time and feet were starting to get chilled. Two gold rings and 5 Silvers. Rare the AQ hits silver but the machine never fails to Amaze me...Hopefully be able to slip out next week, time to switch over to the heavy duty drysuit. AQ settings, in the water hunting, about chest deep, Brackish water...Stock coil...All Metal only....Sensitivity 8.....ATS 5......Volume 9.......Delay 11.....Threshold around 5, very low. Digging deep targets only...only iron was 2 pieces of crab pot. One I knew but dug anyway, the other fooled me.

Denis explains in his video in French that it is the result of 4 to 5 days of detection on the beaches. He detect during 4 to 5 days and sleeps inside converted truck near beach there before returning home. Does anyone know the US medal? Denis also explains that he was 3 prospectors on the same spot at the beach, 2 Minelab detectors (not the Equinox but and smaller models) and a White's pulsescan TDI modified at 18V He explains that they did not find anything because the gold targets are all very deep and placed on the bed rock.... (we can see the black sand appear when he touch the bed rock) There is always a little luck of course, but also the master's know-how ...

Is there anyone using the machine or is the forum blocking out post I saw Joe recent u tube videos. But that’s it i herd there close to 30 machines out there. Makes me wonder

Got a desert trip planned in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone (Steve especially) has had a chance to test out the AQ for nuggets? I got mine at the end of September and it has already paid for itself in beach finds, including my first platinum ring ever, a 25.2 gram monster. I know it's not designed for prospecting, but was thinking about taking along it to play around. I did air test a 2.0 gram gold/quartz nugget with Pulse Delay of 7, max sensitivity and minimum ATS and it was a solid hit at 5" and broke the threshold at 7". For each 1/2 increase of Pulse Delay, I lost about an inch or so. If anyone has field experience, I would like to know your results. I will relay actual findings (if any) after I get back. I received my AQ yesterday afternoon. I put the battery on charger and about an hour later it was fully charged. After some scrambling around to get out of my apartment I hit the beach on an incoming tide. I went to an area where I had seen beach PI holes before and decided to give it a try. As you can see it was not a productive location except for the eCig cartridges which I got 3 of them. They were deep and the sound was high. I started out in everything preset as the Quick Start suggests. I didn't know what it was going to sound like but it is a higher pitch than I normally listen to. The waves were making some noise as I was mostly in ankle deep but sometimes knee deep water. The headphones were comfortable for the 3 hours I was out. I didn't have a coin for the first 1.5 hours. I've never had so many bottle caps but I don't hunt this area of the beach. My deepest target was about 20 inches and was the bottom of the can. I couldn't find one target at 24" and still digging. At the end of 2 hours I decided to 'experiment' with going down a notch on frequency delay. Then on the way back to my start I switched to tone mode. That was when I heard a 'weird' low tone and when I dug it it was a dime. When I first started I had put my cell phone in my top pocket and on the 3rd dig hole it dropped in mud. Now I have a finicky cell phone that doesn't want to charge properly. I ordered another BLU phone to replace it. When I put the two shafts together and tried the length I thought it was going to be too long. It would be if it was a heavy unit but I was able to use the first notch with the push out pin but this would not be good for my wife. I would suggest that the pin be moved on the lower shaft and also make it shorter. It is going to be a learning curve to find a beach that is PI 'friendly' which means that it holds deep jewelry/gold and not just deep trash. Mitchel

So the tides were decent enough on my days off to try again for some gold with the AQ or GPX. Since my beaches will not relent with the sanding in, I decided to try another strategy. Day one was split between the AQ for low tide and the GPX for deep silver. With the beach heavily sanded at low tide, all I could do was get some junk jewelry with the AQ. The GPX scored 3 silvers using the monster 18"DD Detech coil. It must have been a sight watching this guy struggle with that coil while holding a side stick and a big spade shovel 😄 The GPX wins that day. But... Day two was raining, so the GPX loses by default ... tough luck GPX (needs to be waterproof, hint, hint) So all day long I used the AQ at another beach which has a decent low tide. But as usual around here, it was sanded in more than ever. Low tide produced very few targets, just 3 zinc cents, some small junk jewelry and bottle caps. It looked like a wasted trip. But I wandered around all over, from high to low tide looking for a break. I knew that the rings were out of reach by the level of the sand against a breaker wall, so I decided to look for small jewelry in hopes of finding a gold stud or even a charm. No luck until I hit a small slope. By this time I had put gold out of my mind and just wanted to dig for the rest of the day. I used the all metal mode exclusively, just to boost the number of targets. I did get a lot of iron and bottle caps but then it happened. I got gold!!!!! No, not Joe or Mitchel kind of gold, 🙄 but more like anything I can get will do gold. So a small prayer necklace pendant shows up. I could tell it was gold right away. 10k it is...my FIRST gold with the AQ. I could now relax. So I started to grid this area carefully and a little while later I got a hit and could see a small bit of the target I thought was going to be a small silver earring. But it turned out to be a 10k diamond studded Ankh symbol. Looks like a cross with a loop at the top. It's used in ancient Egypt, representing the symbol of life. Gorgeous little piece and my SECOND gold with the AQ. I was in shock. So I start to look around as I am getting back up and about 3 feet from that target I can visually see pieces of a gold rope chain sticking out of the sand. In my moment of professionalism, I tried every combination on the AQ to better find chains......... Actually I just grabbed that thing as fast as I could 😂 So I haven't tried the AQ to see if it actually would pick the chain up or not. But technically not my THIRD gold of the day since it is .925 with 1/12 10K overlay. I think they call that Vermeil. My bad day turned real good, real fast. I hunted a while longer and called it a day. Thank you AQ for hitting that first gold target and making me stay in that area!

Low water at the local hole today. Low enough that I had wet sand to do some testing with. I can call fish hooks well in the wet sand in all metal ... but not well in the water where I don't have the same ability to change coil speed like over the wet sand. Got lots of lead today, not too many fish hooks other than those attached to rigs with lead or with brass swivels. A couple of deep nickles, one really deep spark plug and one junk child's ring. Was chest deep over a target that sounded really good ... and the battery died. Didn't pack the second one because I had to take care of some other things today, so it was my alarm clock to head home ... and enough of a work out in the shape I'm in. A bit sore this evening, but it is a good sore. Cheers, tvr

It took me 4 short hunts to finally run the battery down. Total run time was approximately 11 hours and 35 minutes. That sure beat the 3 1/2 from the factory battery. I ran about 95% of the time in AM and only switched to Tone or Mute to check targets. Running mostly presets on the other settings. The audio of certain targets is starting to become inbedded in my brain now. Nickels are easy to recognize now.

One layer rubberized and an outer layer of "Flex Seal". First trial in fresh water with just the rubberized seemed to mute the mid-depth interference. Made the noise easier to tune out--not such sharp reports from waves passing. Would like to hear back on some salt trials. cjc

Sorry for the delay in putting my experiences on paper, I received my AQ 8-7-20. I have lived in Oregon now for the last three years. Coming from California I was use to un-ending tourists, vacationers, locals streaming to the beaches all year long. Here in Oregon I now have to live with the fact that many of my close, local beaches are just not popular with "In the water" type of beach goers. These beaches do not have the throngs of people lying a towel out and sunning themselves all day long. Most are lucky to get a few hours of towel sitting and then start looking for a wind break to hide behind. That being said, if I drive 50 to 250 miles north the populace does have access to a few more popular sunning beaches. My first outing was right down to my local beach, three miles away. Just wanted to see how the AQ acted on my black sand beach and to my water. I'll have to say it took me awhile to get it calmed down in and near water, even on wet sand. Ended up with the Frequency at 10.5, ATS at 9, Sensitivity at 6. This allowed me to run it with some faultsing during my swings. I just have to slow down my swings and it was more quiet. Second outing was to an inland fresh water reservoir (120 mile round trip) where they have been draining it for only four days. This is a huge reservoir and takes over a month to drain it down before storms hit. The beach areas had only about ten yards exposed to the mud bottom and no where near to the end of where people jump off the end of the dock. The mud was un-digable with a scoop. Like working in modeling clay. I'll have to wait until it gets a little more dried out and use a shovel. Will try and hit it next month. Anyway the AQ worked very well in freshwater at the presets. Third outing was to a beach south of me (80 mile round trip). Actually hit two beaches here same settings were needed to keep the AQ stable while swinging. These beaches were very clean of trash so I got a good three hours in with the AQ. I had the exact same experiences other owners reported with hair pins, bottle caps, wire bits, etc. Like every new owner, especially me, I dug all signals using the All Metal and Tone settings, switching back and forth before digging. Learning this machine will take me awhile but I like the sound of it. It reminds me of using my old Mine Lab 4000 gold machine. Similar in sound and especially reactions to hot rocks. Fourth outing was yesterday, a beach north of me (400 mile round trip). Actually I hit three beaches but stayed at the first one for a long time. Nice clean beach. I usually take my Nox 800 out on it first to test for trash and if it looks good go and get the Impulse. I got a lot of practice in yesterday. Digging almost everything and comparing sounds and switching between All Metal and Tone. I did not take any pictures of my trash or coins or toys found. Every body has enough pictures of the bad stuff. I will be staying with my settings for a while as they seem to be good for my beaches. I waited a long time to get this machine and I am not sorry I have it. You have to realize, and it's been written before. The AQ will not be for every beach hunter. It has to be used in conjunction with other machines. It's not a coin machine and will drive you crazy if you are wanting it for coins. My trips did not score any jewelry or gold. Not that I wasn't trying but because (I believe) my beaches are not in use as So. Cal. beaches are throughout the year. Lower numbers of people on the beach at shorter summer type weather will just not have the abundance of what I was used to finding in California. You will see a report when I do score gold!! Bottom line, I hope the AQ (re-worked model) is a monetary success for Fisher. I do see however people buying this machine and being very un-happy with it in the short term. Many new detectorists or seasoned ones either don't have the time to put in on the learning curve or just get frustrated with the limits this water machine has. Limits being it's not a coin machine (many detectorists will not remember this when purchasing the AQ). So I predict you will see lots of them for re-sale, maybe six months after the final version has been released. GaryC/Oregon Coast
