Out today to a local soccer complex that I have detected before. I believe it may have been an auto junkyard because there are tons of signals that sound amazing. It's only after I start digging to the earth's core that I realize it is not a silver coin, but rather a large piece of aluminum trim or car door handle, etc. Nevertheless, I had two signals that were actually good, solid high-tones with repeatable numbers. The 50¢ piece was a 33 id. I thought for sure it was going to be a silver ring, but the coin isn't bad either as I don't find many of those anymore. The next high tone that caused pause was a 37-39 id. It was under a soccer goal, so I'm sure it has been detected before--likely left alone due to it sounding a lot like the rest of the trash in the ground. I also was going to leave it, but when the coil was raised and waived over the signal, the audio trailed off quickly. It was very caked with sand, but some brushing help reveal at least some details. The front looks like the rest of the medals I found online, but the back does not appear to be the same. Do any of you have anymore information about these medals? Also, how does one go about cleaning the crusted sand from the medal(bronze)? I know it could harm it possibly, but it certainly won't be worth anything in its current state. Late this afternoon I snuck in a beach hunt. It was very disappointing in the beginning. The conditions were just great with a low tide but there was nothing much down low. I began following the advice I gave Adam about Zig Zagging and it was only producing odd targets. Sometimes the beach just doesn't have much to give you I began to say. When I reached one of my good beaches after about a mile walk and the conditions weren't right it was time to return on the high side. This I did and I worked my way into a few coins rather than just trash and by now I had 3 cheap rings which I would have been 'satisfied' with had I gotten back to my car then but it was a great sunset again. This time I didn't have my phone so no pictures of it. I worked the high side for a bit with a grid and then I heard a little 1. When I say 'little' I mean it was not very loud. It was consistent and I was hopeful. I don't get many 1's so in my first scoop I could see something sandy hanging from it and it had knots. It wasn't exactly balled up but I could tell it was a chain and I was hopeful. I could see it ... GOLD! And when I got it home I was able to measure it. It is 30 inches (a delicate link) that weighs 8.4 grams. That gives me some pause but I'll get it checked and modify the post if it is a fake. Here it is with the other junk from the hunt. I bought a Nokta Makro Pulse Dive, but I won't snorkel, I need to buy goggles and snorkel, what else? I have no experience, but I am willing to work hard to learn, only by using Pulse Dive can I avoid crowds, and that is, what kind of bag to use in the water to reduce drag to collect!

We had a blow over the weekend and I was there. A huge cut was formed at the beach. I had new personal bests in total rings (10 for a day), gold rings (5) and quarters (64). I took a break to eat during the evening so I have two 'sessions' at the same beach. It was good enough to return with my sore back. It was a target rich environment. The total for all change was $24.03 which is also a personal high for change. I have found $20 bills on the beach in the past. These are the rings by session. More after I went back and the tide went out a bit than the first go. The L ring was the first ring I found it is 14k/3.2g. The other ring is 1.3g/18k. The green ring is 1.9g/14k. The black ring is 5.5g/titanium Legend of Zelda ring. The crusty ring is 3.5g/.925. The yellow stone ring is 3.8g/18k. This is a little 'old' ring and a cheap 'love' ring. The ring on the left is 16.9g/18k but I question it. The ring on the right is silver and is the last ring I found. The reason I 'question' it is that it had some green corrosion on it you can see in the first picture and now when I go to clean it the pocks appear even with the gold color. Perhaps that means it is a high copper ring? I also think it is 'old' but some of the edges don't look like it has worn that much in the wet surf/sand where I found it. Comments are welcome. Mitchel

⁉️ Which one is better? Has anyone done a comparison test between the two coils for a jewelry hunt in the water? (freshwater or land) Both are able to use the same frequency. 28 kHz is very good for detecting gold. When I hunt in the water it is a very useful feature of target ID normalization. On the of LF coil, this was a big advantage. I set the gold range, so I only dug out the signals that belong to it. The HF 9" coil is great, but when I increase the frequency the VDI changes, getting higher and higher. The upper range will become narrower. This makes it difficult to decide whether to dig or not. Let's look at an example. A 1.5 g 14K wedding ring is the test object. HF 9 "coil at 14 kHz = ID 50, 28 kHz = ID 65, 56 kHz = ID 79. X35 11 "coil 11.3 kHz = ID 54, 16.4 kHz = ID 54, 25.4 kHz = ID 54! If I use frequency offset these numbers will change a bit. The general opinion of many people is that the HF coil is the best. I'm not so sure about that. I looked at this idea in terms of the gold jewelry hunt.

I consider myself freshwater gold jewelry hunter with a focus on gold chains. I have used Tesoro Stingray II models for the past 20 something years and have decided to purchase either an Equinox 800, a Makro Gold Kruzer, or maybe one of the Multi's. I prefer the first 2 models because of their high frequencies but not having used either, I don't know if 40 or 61 khz. offer any significant advantages over a machine running in the 12-20 khz. range. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the matter. I tend to keep my detectors for a while so reliability/durability is somewhat of a consideration. If you have any other waterproof detector considerations you'd like to suggest feel free. Thank you, auBurkey

I don't have words to describe what the last couple months have been. I just know that finally I hitted this morning one ring over a wine red clay, after two days In a new spot, freediving with heck of rough water yesterday and quitted for real unacceptable danger. I fighted against the monkey since last August end and finally won this morning... I don't care the weight and the numbers, I just want to enjoy the shine again as a therapy. I hug You all.

In my last thread I posted about finding half of a Cartier bracelet. I searched and searched on multiple hunts for the matching half but couldn't find it. However, in my efforts to find the rest of the bracelet I did stumble upon a few other good finds. The top/middle ring really had me thinking that I had hit the jackpot. It looked so beautiful and had markings on the inside of it. About an hour after I found it I took a closer look and saw the "ALE" stamp which I learned here means it was a Pandora- still a hundred dollar ring but not the incredible find I thought it was. The 2 silver colored bands on the other hand were the real deal. Both are 14K white gold although in the darkness I couldn't tell if they might be fresh-dropped silver. Even though the "Apple" cell was found under water it must have been a recent drop as it is the cleanest one I have ever found. It doesn't power up so I'm not sure what to do with it- try and charge it? The Barber dime was actually found, I think, on the same day I found the half-bracelet. I didn't know until a few days later when I was going through my coins and found what looked like an encrusted silver dime. After breaking it open I was surprised to see the characteristic "one dime" stamp on the coin's reverse but the front of the dime is completely unrecognizable. I still hope to find the rest of that Cartier bracelet someday but even if I don't, it's encouraging to know that there are other amazing finds out there that I might stumble upon while looking for it. I'm having a bout of lack of confidence in my MK. My second 11'' coil today started to act just like my old one. (CRAP)... Short story - Went over an area and hit a high 90's number and broken signal. My buddy with the 800 went over it and dug two silver quarters a 1929 and a 1942. So here's my question to all, Do I get a Nox 800???? I mostly coin and relic hunt, with a beach maybe twice a year. So I want the good the bad and the ugly. honest and true answers on performance, warranty and coil choices. I'm not a big fan of the tones, but I might be able to forgive that for a more stable running machine. Not looking for overly complicated either. I keep hearing that there is a BIG learning curve? Can you run in factory settings and still be happy? or do you have to be a mathematician to learn it? I do not want to carry 50 index cards with setting numbers!!! SO all that own and run one please let me know your thoughts good or bad. Just looking for help before pissing away another $1200+ God help me, I'm running out of excuses for my wife, so you members better give me some good answers.

Long story short, I don't even know what machine I was using when I pulled it out from the bottom, but maybe months after, half an hour ago I was checking my Ctx for tomorrow hunt and testing some targets from my garbage/crusty/horrible coins can....When I passed it over the coil the numbers were all but obvious to be silver...So a 12.24 was lightning under my eyes and decided to give it a go for a steel wool run... I still need to clean well the Inside part of this oldie to the point I can barely see some engraving like a date or something... For now, I'm smiling like a child with a surprise...Gold has a terrible effect in my veins💀 It is the second time that I find something interesting but neglected...My daughter found a charm in the same bin😵....

Saturday we started out at 9AM, when i got home it was almost 5AM!🤣 Was fun!😄 We went to the Salt River to see if we could pull some gold, well, we both found a gold ring!😁 I'm not the type of beach hunter, but to me, it's not a big challenge... it's like hunting on very mineralized areas.🤷‍♂️ When we got there, I tuned my Nox: Beach 1 5 Tones ( so that my brother-in-law could hear the low tones). F2 at 8 23 Sens ( to run it stable, he doesn't have experience). Discrimination from 14 to 40 ( all the -numbers ferrous opened) Recovery Speed at 7. I then explained: Bro, you probably won't dig coins and you will certainly miss some gold, but generally, most gold will fall at very low numbers, so if you get a signal with jumping numbers falling at -numbers (ferrous) and low numbers such as 1 to 9, dig it! Could be deep gold. This is very mineralized due to salt. Most of cases the mineralization will subtract some of the original ID. (I also explained about the stuff on edge that can affect the signal). Well, his second signal was a gold ring 🤣 Lucky bastard!🤣🤣 Funny thing, few days ago while talking with my mates, I told them that I was going to find gold on the beach!😊 Most of people who runs these rivers don't have Minelabs (machines that can handle mineralization) and generally people ignore the very low IDs... At the end, i went for a swing on dry sand (we hunted wet for many hours), i pulled almost 10€ and gave all my coins to him, so that he can start saving for his own machine!😃 THESE SETTINGS WERE TWEAKED ACCORDING TO THE AREA WE BEEN HUNTING AND FOR OUR SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES! This river has been used at least since Medieval times, there is lots of pottery fragments and some parts have lots of iron from old fishermen boats. Very strange, as hot as it’s been, there was very little to be found at the lake last Monday morning. Usually there’s at least a lot of clad. Very seldom ever do I see any other hunters there either. I’m going to experiment w a couple new settings next time. I normally won’t post unless I find something good however I hate filming for nothing...🥴 Thanks! Aaron

I live in Southern California and we have many beaches where you can detect all night long. If you have never done a night hunt I highly recommend them. Now is a good time to go out because the moon is nearly full. Most of my hunt last night I turned off my light and just enjoyed the clear skies, stars, planets and moon. The comet is long gone when I get out at midnight but the moon is directly above. I watched it set several hours later. One of the reasons I went out was because I read a surf report that said waves had come from a direction that makes one of my beaches 'come alive' with targets if they are big enough. I went out before dark and I didn't see any of these 5 ft waves so I was skeptical. When I got to my area there was a cut. Not a big one but bigger than any in a long time. So on a relative scale it was big. I worked my way along it and immediately started finding shallow quarters. Shallow is one or two scoops with an 8" basket scoop. It was fun. I followed the cut quickly just in case someone else came out (they did) and then I doubled back later in the session. There were lots of targets. I dug over 150 by my actual count. There were 34 quarters, 30 dimes, 20 nickels and 40 pennies. I also found some micro jewelry (lets me know I'm not always going too fast) and a couple of cheap rings. That represents well over 500 digs with my pull it towards me scoop. I couldn't work a beach like this with a shovel scoop. I couldn't find ringsville last night but I was searching the patch diligently for it. Better luck next time.

It happen... Anytime I check the wind radar hours before to go wet and I see something similar, the dreaming child in me wake up and high hopes follows the wind arrows. In some days even in Europe we will see the effect of this hurricane even if highly reduced in the force. Sunday afternoon I've seen an underrated profile by the TV and YouTube live for the weather. Right now, knowing well what that colours means I think someone near Orlando is living really a nightmare. (With great respect for all those on the Florida East coast and I hope all of You are safe and closed at home far from shore.)

A few weeks ago, inspired by some threads in the jewelry forum, I started shifting my focus from cherry picking coins, to digging possible jewelry signals using the Equinox 800. I actually started finding some, as shown in the first picture below. I was becoming a little frustrated, as (with the exception of one tiny silver ring), all I was finding was “crap” jewelry. That changed this morning. It’s been getting wicked hot here in Montana, so I’ve been out in the parks early. I was in one of the main city parks this morning (A park I’ve pulled a ton of coins out of, including a couple of Mercs and a war nickel), searching a different section away from the stage area where they have concerts, etc., when I got a solid 18/19 signal, consistent in all directions. I’ve dug many, many signals in this range, and most turn out to be some sort of can tab, but those signals have always been kind of "janky" and change or disappear with the direction of the swing. This one did not. I pinpointed. I dug. The target was right at the bottom of the plug. A glint of gold! I popped it out with my finger to reveal my first gold find! 4.74 grams of 10k plain gold band, with a current melt value of almost $125.00! Yes, I did a gold dance! This one find helped codify what signals I could/should/might be looking for. I know it’s not the end all be all, but the signal was SO strong and clear compared to all the aluminum tabs I’ve dug, the contrast was revelatory. I feel I’ve made a huge leap in understanding. The ring has an inscription and a date from 20 years ago, so I think I will put a craigslist ad in lost and found. Still a noob. ~Bash

Last week, I had two days to hunt in the morning and no more than 4 total hours in the water, before people came to swim around me. Summer is the time when I hate the most questions and how much time is lost when people crowd the shore. In my area it seems an insane habit to ask beyond the limit of decency ... Not that I am full of words and patience in this case. However, without high expectations, I was in the usual super drained place by I don't know how many other hunters and with some method, I slowly hunted a relatively small area. I have done this because the almost total absence of sand makes it difficult to say where to start and where to end, without a clear idea of particular clues, stuff can be everywhere trapped down. Of the few signals left, in the first day I dug a heavy piece, which was so old, was now almost red. A thick bracelet after years without to see one of them! The heaviest single good target I have found since I started in 2005. In the same place, the second day, meters closer to that magical signal, another bracelet, this time thin, but still as heavy as two wedding rings ... In addition, a small earring with a stone that seems fake to me, closed the short time left. In total 30 grams of beloved 18k in 4 hours, a bit more, maybe... What a week...What a dream...

For me I have 7 gold rings that were all found with the Nox in the water. There were 5 in lake Ontario and 2 in the Finger lakes. I have a streak of 4 days in a row in the big lake with 2 in one day.

Took my new chain rake and my Equinox 800 for an all day lake hunt and spent around 10 hours in the water. During the first couple of hours I pulled the rake and found my first gold chain although it is low carat according to my acid test. Using the rake is not only physically demanding, it is boring IMO. At least when metal detecting you are always finding something even if it is trash. With the rake I can pull it 10-20 times and....nothing. It kind of wears you down- not only physically but mentally. I still need to play with it some more to dial in the weighting and technique but it won't be replacing my detectors (not that I expected it would). 🙂 Once I switched to the Equinox I started to find targets right away. Using the 6" coil in Gold 2 mode I dug every positive repeating Target ID. After about 2 hours of detecting I found my first ring of the day, a 2.6 gram, 14K, white gold band. As I recall it rang up around "7" on the Nox and there was something about the signal that sounded so promising that I almost expected to see something good in the scoop. It sure was a pretty sight in the sunlight after all my recent night hunts! After a while I moved to a different part of the lake and that is where I found 2 more gold rings, 2 silver rings and a silver heart pendant and chain. One of the gold rings is a real beauty- 2.5 grams of 14K rose gold with a square cut, lavender colored stone surrounded by small diamonds. The picture doesn't really do it justice. Coin-wise I did pretty well although I was surprised that I found so many nickels. Lots of dimes too but not surprising as that 6" coil hits them pretty easily. I usually find more quarters at this location but there is a coin shortage out there I hear. Thanks for reading. GL&HH!

Recent last couple of weeks metal detecting lakes out here near OKC. Using the XP DEUS.

I have found 7,and a friend found 1 1/2. They are about 2 grams .To get these targets location is everything.6 hit like a nickel and the other under a nickel. hit.

There are few things a water hunter needs to be happy when doing his work... A good bottom condition and a well prepared machine to do the job. Many times I found good stuff but really struggling with a coil larger than 10". Vlf or pulse, will depend for the most by the environment type, but talking about coils, there's no comparison for a diver with an 8".Not only saltwater is a reduced problem with it, but between rocks, between waves,between any other thing, I still prefer to use a smaller coil. I'm in love with the AQ performance, for what I can see in multiple videos Joe OBN is publishing, but I only think about a smaller coil to be released soon. I hope Alexandre+FT are already working on this thing, cause otherwise I'll be forced to wait until that moment will be reality. 8" coil is a rule for me.

It is summer and to stay till late with friends and childs drinking and roasting meat in the evening is a pleasure without doubts... After few hours however it is also time to go in the beach, in a hurry, early, before people start to fill the water and the search area... So even this morning, after a long stop due to some bad waves, I was trying to do my best and luckily I hitted a promising spot... I'm that kind of hunter that never trust all can be picked up, so even if I pulled last pieces from here when most of competition was already done for this area, I tried again, another time.. Keeping in mind that 99% of stuff was already vanished months ago, I pushed my patience only cause I've seen multiple rocks, hoping for a bit of movement on the bottom...Almost leaving the place, this is what happened today... Fun day at the lake, no gold this time but found a few old coins and 8.7 gram James Avery silver ring and a thing silver ring w stones. I wasn’t sure on the video the hallmarks were pretty small. Thanks, Aaron
