  1. I don't recall if it was here or another website that posted about the temperature operating range?? I can confirm that if the temp is below 15F the EQ will not work properly. I went out early this morning to catch the low tide and found out. Once I warmed it up all was normal. Also the Sennheiser LL ear buds were not happy either. FYI.
  2. So today I visited my favorite gold beach. It did not comply with my requests What I did notice today is how the EMI from a very close train effects the performance of the Equinox. I was using Beach 1 and usually run my sensitivity at 22. Before, during and after a train passing I have to drop sensitivity to 20. It then quiets down enough to hunt....BUT, quiet as it is, I believe the depth is affected very much. I hunted from 8AM to 2PM (lots of train passes), as that is the bulk of the commuter and cargo runs. The second picture shows some clad. That was all the good targets during that EMI cycle (6 hrs.). When the trains start to have large gaps between runs, (from 2-4pm), and there is no major EMI emitted from the rails, then you can see in the first picture the results. Lots of wheats, some copper memorials, 2 war nickels, and 4 silver dimes and a silver quarter. Most of those coins were 8-12" deep. So today it seems that my depth and ability to hear the deeper targets with EMI present, is very compromised even though the machine runs smooth. I always new EMI cuts performance, but to see it first hand is an eye opener.
  3. Equinox 600- Recently in a heavy ferrous riverbed, all my signals were coming in clipped, no full long sounds. I Slowed the recovery speed to 2 (= 4 on the 800), and reduced signal strength. Decided to dig some bad signals anyway, thinking it was junk, but actually some were good brass items. I nearly overlooked them all, because of the unclear signals. Any advice ? I imagine the machine was trying to discriminate out the surrounding iron, but it was difficult having the same problem with every signal being cut/clipped , even with every park and field setting ?
  4. I am curious to know which mode the relic hunters prefer for finding buttons and why. Field 1or 2? Thanks
  5. Many of the sites I hunt will have a whole lot of -6 to -9 readings when having a gain of 18 and above. Is this the mineralization in the ground making the detector false? If so should I drop sensitivity even further until the readings stop? Just curious because I half way thought I remembered Steve h saying something along those lines
  6. I am still waiting for a good test and comparison on the E-800 vs the V3i. I know the E-800 is far simpler but ............. How do these two stack up.
  7. My 800 came by the little brown truck this morning!! I am hoping that the rain holds off until after it is charged so I can go out and dig up the yard.
  8. Does the large 15”x12” Equinox Coil require the latest update version from 1.5? I wasn’t sure if the update was necessary or not to run the large coil. Thanks All! BH
  9. Hey Everybody, I was finally able to pick up the larger coil for my Equinox from big boys hobbies. He mentioned he had a few in stock. So, I can’t wait to see what this bad boy will do down at the local beach. I just hope I’m up to the task of digging all those gold and silver rings (I’m going to find) from the deep holes lol! Happy Holidays to all!
  10. Has there been any talk of an eight or nine inch coil for the nox in the future?
  11. This weeks beach hunt was split between the GPX and Equinox. The GPX scored 5 deep silvers, but this item is the reason I love the way the Equinox ID's targets. To some, they may not like the jumpy numbers on mixed metal targets, but I appreciate the added information, as I always like to be the one making the final decision to dig or not. The GPX would have read this as Iron, especially at the depth it was. But the Equinox read the copper content as well as the iron. Since I run with no discrimination, the detector sees both metals and reports them as such. That is a good thing. But I also like to run my iron volume on zero, that way I am not swayed by the iron sound to possibly not dig it. The iron numbers still flash to give me that information, I just prefer not to hear it. That makes these type of targets easier to examine. If you have not tried you Equinox that way, give it a try. For me it is one of those perks of a well designed machine.
  12. Is there a way to view which software version my new machine is running? Thanks
  13. Hello all, I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I have an Equinox 800 coming via the Brown Truck and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the approximate Target Id numbers for the following: Eagle buttons Flat buttons 58. cal Minnie balls Thanks!! I am really enjoying the wonderful post here.
  14. Hi all; Just wanted to give a heads-up that while lower rod sales continue at a brisk pace, I'm also nearing completion on the design of the complete carbon-fiber shaft system (that I've hinted about before). I will have two prototypes (using two similar, but slightly different clamping cam-lock systems) built in about 2 weeks (parts are in production now), and then, after some final testing, I'll be ready to ramp up to production mode. I think these will be really nice shafts; my main focus over the past couple of months has been the cam lock system -- specifically the strength/security/stability of the cam lock. The goals are two-fold -- 1.) to eliminate ALL wobble issues experienced by some users with the factory shaft, and 2.) to HOPEFULLY eliminate the spring button/button hole design. While I will continue to offer my lower shafts WITH the spring button (so that my lower rods will remain compatible with Minelab's middle shaft), my expectation is that the clamping cam locks on my shaft will meet the design spec for strength/stability -- which would mean NO BUTTON HOLES REQUIRED in the shaft. The intent of the design has been with an eye toward the final result being somewhat akin to the CTX 3030 type of shaft -- i.e. a secure cam lock, permitting "universal" adjustment lengths for the lower rod. Anyway, I expect to have these shafts ready soon; shortly thereafter, I expect to have a rather unique counter-balancing system available as an optional add-on accessary, to achieve perfect balance for the machine (through the availability of several different weights, each one appropriate for each of the different coils, and for different lower rod adjustment lengths). Finally, a custom arm cuff may also be an optional add-on accessory in the not-too-distant future. I'll offer more information later -- and I also have a more detailed post up on my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/stevesdetectorrods if anyone wants more information. Thanks! Steve
  15. Can someone please tell me how long the Minelab adapter cable is to go from 1/8 to 1/4 headphones? Thanks Dave
  16. I have had my XP Deus for almost 2 weeks so assume I know next to nothing in 10 hours of detecting. I have had my Equinox 600 long enough to have hundreds of hours so I know a little. Today I thought I would set up both detectors with small gold jewelry programs. I wasn't expecting anything special. It was 28 F here and I did not want to dig any targets deeper than 4 inches and I went to a public park soccer field that I have never detected before. The Deus was set up like this: software V4.1, 9" HF coil, slightly altered by notching GM Power program saved in slot 12, frequency 14,414, disc at 6.1, sensitivity 80, iron vol. 3, reactivity 2, audio response 4, 3 tones, volume 7 on WS5 headphones, GB 87. I had two notches set up. The first was from the 0 to 35. The second was from 62 to 99. So most of the small gold range, small aluminum, beaver tails and nickels were detectable. The Equinox 600 was set up like this: firmware updated, 11" coil, Field 1, multi frequency, disc at 0, sensitivity 13, iron bias 0, recovery speed 3, 5 tones, volume 20 on Avantree low latency bluetooth headphones, threshold 9, GB 3, I also had two notches set. The first was from -9 to 0. The second was from 14 to 40. So most of the small gold range, small aluminum, beaver tails and nickels were detectable. I detected roughly 1/4 of the soccer field in 1 hour with the Deus and had a really nice, quiet walk. I found two 4" nickels, plenty of small aluminum, and a young person's good quality stainless steel and tungsten ring. Dug 23 targets none over 4" deep. I did not skip any detected targets meaning those that had at least one audible beep. The Deus was a pleasure to use. I was careful to not walk too fast, kept my swings low and smooth, and overlapped swings at a medium speed roughly one complete left and back to the right swing in around 2 seconds I detected the exact same area with the Equinox 600. Immediately I began to detect numerous targets. I counted 47 in all at the end of the hunt. It was getting really cold so I dug 15 of the 47. Most were small aluminum can slaw in the less than 1/2" size at 1" to 3" depth. I Also recovered 4 complete beaver tail pull tabs at 3" to 4". I also recovered 1/3 of a crushed aluminum soda can at 2" depth. I used the same swing speed and walking speed as best I could. This really surprised me to say the least. I need someone who owns both of these detectors to help me understand why these similar settings (or maybe I am a complete idiot!) resulted in one detector completely missing over 40 targets (I heard absolutely nothing). Obviously I am an XP Deus newbie so this topic is about my ignorance more than anything else I'm sure. I am not trying to engage in an XP Deus vs Equinox 600 discussion. I just need some settings advice. The only person I know with both of these detectors where I live, recently had a heart attack (he's okay) and I don't want to bother him with this. Thanks in advance for anyone that responds to this topic. Jeff
  17. I have been hunting with my 15" coil for the past 3 weeks or so, and I have seen a shift in the ID's compared to the stock 11 and the 6". For example, my first hunt I noticed that the two 1911 Wheats I dug, both were ID'ing in the upper 20's. (27 - 30). In between the two wheats, I got a solid high tone that was id'ing in the mid 30's (32 - 37) which ended up being a 40's rosie. In my subsequent hunts, I have found that the nickel range is pretty solid (12-13) and zinc pennies usually don't come in above 20... so pretty similar to the other coils... but higher conductors... copper pennies and above, all seem to be coming in more bouncy and with several points higher on the id scale. Yesterday I dug a clad quarter at about 3 inches... solid 35. I don't mind... I am digging anything in the nickel range and above a 17 without question anyway... but was just wondering if other 15" users have see the same results. By the way, my standard setup is Park 1, 50 Tone, Recovery 5 or 6, IB 0 on the new firmware. I have disconnected the coil and re-installed it, run a factory reset on the machine, and even reloaded the update to see if any would change the results. No change. Having said all that... I am really enjoying the performance of the 15 in my ground. Definitely a good addition to my arsenal for those wide open parks and sports fields! Tim.
  18. HelloI am still frustrated with my 6" coil after upgrade, and how it falses giving strong two directional signals on Iron I don't want to roll back as i Enjoy the benefits with 11" coilI wrote to Minelab Tech support asking if they where aware of situation and if they were working on a fixI included a list of some of the comments on this subject in the past from ForumsI know it might just be a consequence of improving one thing another goes bad, but its worth tryplease post your experiences here, if you've experienced bad 2 directional falses after upgrade with 6" coil in Ironas I want to pass it on to them
  19. Actually, it has been every detector that has this curse attached to it. I'm talking about situations like I had on this week's beach hunt. As I sit there religiously digging every single #1 target ID number, that after digging about 40 of them, I decide to not dig one. I dismiss it! I'm not bending down to dig another piece of minute tin foil. But being me, I decide to just kick the sand with my foot as a gesture to kind of try and not be lazy. I kick the sand and I see what turns out to be a beautiful 18 K earring starring up at me, appearing to say.....You don't want ME? . Now the curse.... I will probably dig every piece of foil on the beach for the next three years before the paranoia goes away. Another lesson learned for me, that I really need to dig that number, no matter how much foil or how many of those little black rocks that read a solid 1, are on the beach. Just dig it!!!! This hunt was all GPX (except for the gold), because the beach still has not received a good storm to clear away some sand. In a peeing contest between the Equinox and the GPX, the winner is easily the GPX. 14" coins do not read well on the Equinox at my type of beaches. I was lucky enough to hit a layer that was pre memorials and that is why I had so many wheat pennies. I wish I had my camera at the beach because the oddest find I had, was the remains of the bottom of a Pringle's (fake chips) can. Some of the plastic coated cardboard cylinder remained with the lower half of the container. It was down a good 15" and my shovel finally pulled it up. What I was not prepared for was the broken chips to spill out and still look fresh as the day it was bought. I know Pringles are not real chips, but I did not expect this!! I used to love those things. That explains what happened to me

  21. Both the MX Sport and the Equinox 800 are waterproof and that’s about where the two are alike ends. Now if we want to put the detectors that have the option to run in different frequencies then how would you place them in price? I speaking about the ones that have other frequencies but still run only one at a time . Now remember the Equinox is at the top with a price of 899.00 and a true multi frequency. Would you want to slip it in between the Sport and the Equinox in price? Maybe we could lower the price of the Sport and place the ones we’ve been talking about in it’s spot.. Just thinking out loud but everyone has their own opinion. Chuck
  22. I would like to know if there would be any advantage if instead of - 9 it will be modified to 0 to search on the beach? . It is the only thing that could change the tone break since I own the model 600. It would be for beach search and mainly in the wet land
  23. G'day, I have been a very lucky guy to have been using the new Equinox 15x12" coil . I decided not to tease anyone with threads about it until it was out there and becoming available to the public. As they are starting to trickle through now I will now say what a awesome coil this coil this thing is. Light for size, very sensitive for a big coil, good pinpointing and really great depth ( depth at the beach amazes me and gives me a workout to dig targets ), Its Spring here and I am just getting back into the water with the warmer temperatures so hopefully some gold jewellery will fall in my scoop . Even though Winter at the beach here is a bit slow, I have done some wet sand + some shallow saltwater hunting when some very low tides occurred. This 15" coil is stable (as good as the 11") in the saltwater and IMHO it is not difficult to swing underwater in light - medium wave action. Most of my hunting has been for modern coins in parklands and a few beach hunts. I have found stacks of $1 and $2 coins and almost least one ring every time that I have had it out...most have been silver - one gold ring to date. The 11" coil has not been back on my Eq800 since I have had the 15" , the bigger coverage it provides suits my style of hunting very well. So if you are thinking of a good Christmas present for yourself this is one that I highly recommend and is one that will probably pay for itself in no time. cheers from Downunder and happy hunting ?
  24. without the 80 gram scuff cover and 660 grams with scuff cover. The 11" coil weighs 524 grams with scuff cover. Added weight to front of Equinox 136 grams or 4.86 ounces. Equinox total weight with 15" coil 3.26 lbs. The CTX 17” x 13.5” coil weighs 901.5 grams / 31.8 oz with scuff cover. 25. I have gotten out a total of 6 times this year, this hunt made 7. A new friend of mine and long time 3030 hunter challenged me to go to a football field that he has hunted for years with the 3030 and the 17". He said he would be shocked if I pulled a silver as they are all 8" or deeper and the ground is difficult. I too swung the 3030 for years, but feel the technology in the 800 is superior and would alert me to any keepers that were under the coil. I went in the rain/snow and played in the mud for 3 hours looking for keepers in his football field. Results and settings below. Park 2, Fe Bias 3, Recov. 5, Sens. 16-18 depending on Fe noise density, Ground Balance pumped out to 16, Volume 20 (want to know more or if I left something out just ask) WARNING: There is some cussing in the videos, I was excited as I went in there having zero expectations. https://photos.app.goo.gl/syyarSRTC4XgPXjN9
