  1. Hi could you help me to contact the gentleman who makes the mods for the TDI ( Regg's friend ) Thks for your help guy's Bruno 🗿💍
  2. Is the main difference between the TDI Pro and SL is gb course and fine adjustments? Is there any power difference between the models? An old friend might be selling his TDI and I believe it is one of the older Pro's and I might snag it. Also what 3rd party coils work with them?
  3. Looking for advice on a small elliptical coil purchase for a TDI Pro. As someone pointed out in the Classified section Serious Detecting is having a clearance sale. Looking at the Coiltek 10 x 5 Joey Mono, and the Whites 7.5 x 12 TDI HI-Q Dual Field. See lots of good reviews for the Joey, but not much is posted on the HI-Q. I guess that initially the HI-Q was only available as part of a TDI-SL package and some were hoping that it would be available separately in the future. It appears that when it became available on its own that it was possibly misleadingly labeled as for MX series detectors, and I was wondering if that is why you don't find much feedback specifically on that coil. Any feedback on either or both would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bill
  4. Speaking of PI detectors. Now that Garrett has aquired White's. How about a multi frequency Whites TDI ??? 98 frequencies from the Infinium. Added to the Whites TDI with it's incredible ground tracking and ground balance. That sounds interesting !
  5. I currently use a Equinox 800 and I consider myself to know absolutely everything about it. There really isnt anything that anyone can tell me about that machine that i havent mastered and completely already know. Its probably the most simple machine to use on the planet. I understand all the settings and I even know how to exploit the machine to get the results that i want when i want and i know how to get the maximum depth possible on the machine. I can even get a 22 inch air test on a silver quarter. Not too many people know how to do that and it is very relevant when you hunt in places with fill dirt and sand. So I have been completely cleaning out all double beeps, every single piece of trash, every sliver of aluminum foil, every rusty nail, Every single pull tab, piece of a pull tab, tip of a pull tab, chocolate coin discarded foil etc etc etc. Some of these places i have been electronically sifting wont even give a double beep on ANYTHING anymore with the Equinox 800. I dont care about VDI i just dig it all at this point. I try to force out double beeps. It just doesnt happen anymore in these places ive been pounding. Ive used all 8 modes with several different settings and I now consider these places PRIME PROPERTY for a Pulse Induction Machine in order to find more targets. These places are so clean that I wont even have to tug around the 800 to cross check the beeps because the 800 cant hit anything else there anyway. So i need advice on a purchase. We all know Whites has ended production. But ive always been interested in the TDI pulse machine. Right now you can pick up the Whites TDI Metal Detector with 12” Waterproof Spider Search Coil & Bundle for about 999.95 plus tax and shipping. I have read some old reviews of this machine and some people claim that this thing is an absolute beast at the beach. Ive seen videos of people making water proof boxes and tying it to there body just so they tug this thing along the water and get that unbeatable depth with it. Some of these guys are claiming they get about 3 foot of depth with it while wearing ear phones. I find that very interesting but i dont plan on using it at the beach. I need a machine strictly for coin/relic and jewelry hunting AT THE PARKS and other places on Dry land That the equinox 800 just cant find any more targets at, even after 2 weeks of straight rain. I think my max in depth dig on the ground with the 800 was about a 12 inch Large Cent, and it was basically on a hillside. So i cant find any information about the depth of coins that the WHites TDI can detect. I have Trimes in neighborhood and half dimes too. The equinox will struggle to find those targets that have been in the ground for over a 100 years at about 6 to 7 inches. Can a TDI pull those targets at 12 inches if they have been in the ground for over a hundred years? Whites has taken down their forums and i cant find any relevant information about coin hunting with the machine. Why is TDI cheaper than a V3I? I know that my 800 is superior to the V3I because i used to own one. The V3I is just a VLF machine. If the TDI is a Pulse machine should'nt the detectable depth for coins/jewelry/relics be better and deeper than a VLF? I dont want to dump a grand on a machine with 10 year old technology if my VLF is going to be superior to it. I really don't want to buy a Garret ATX with its 8 year old technology for 2 grand, when i can probably wait until Minelab releases this GPX 6000 specs information. Thats probably when you can get a good deal on a used GPX 5000 for 2 grand or less on ebay. USED GPX 5000 > Garret ATX at that price point. But if a TDI is all need, THat would save me a grand. I dont care about going to gold fields and looking for gold flakes or nuggets. I care about digging up the history where i live at. I could get just as lucky in my village and dig up a silver coin worth $50,000 or more as you could get lucky finding a gold nugget of the same value in the dessert or mountains, RISKING YOUR LIFE FOR IT... Ive read that a Garret ATX and the Whites TDI perform about the same as far as depth of coins is concerned. So I guess i have 2 options, A whites TDI for 1 grand, or wait and try to get a USED GPX 5000 when they go on sale after the GPX 6000 specs release. Is a TDI going to be sufficient for my needs? THanks!
  6. A year full of distractions, so yes I kind of did forget about this project. All parts had been ordered and arrived in good time. Assembly to follow in the next few days... with photographs and a performance test on the modified Pro I still have.. I'll take it steady and do it right, get the soldering tidy and follow the plan..
  7. I finished my channel's intro footage, squeezing some of the last finds in less than two minutes... Hope you enjoy the atmosphere 🙃. Will be difficult to keep it updated constantly with all the work I'm next to start on dryland for water sessions improvement, but keep an eye on my diary now and then🔥 https://youtu.be/1kyGlM9-_do
  8. hello , my wiring go out of my plug and i need a picture or resistance test for, pin out connector , one red with a shield and one clear wire with one shield, the connector have 5 pins but one pin have no seen wire one it, thanks Yves
  9. I need to have my coil replaced on my TDI BH Whites service center is not sure they have one at the moment. My Question is what are the pros and cons of putting a 12 inch Aussie Mono coil on. Not for diving just waist deep wading, also does anyone know if the mono will float like the yellow dual field? I am not looking to find small bits of gold, mostly coins and ring size targets on the Northeast beaches. Thanks Jim
  10. I promised myself to go out and test the changes I made on the Tdi Beachhunter ... In the end, all works properly and I'm a bit proud of what I've done thanks to some help I received here on the forum... Last night, however, I got my hands on the scuba harness and made one of the most serious miscalculations ... Removing a lot of weight to be free to reach the beach without paying the price of pain after the fatigue ... I had in mind some splendid video on sidemount setup, which intrigued me to try in terms of set-up ... The result was crap to say the least ...Sh...happens... Not only did I gain 22kg during quarantine, even though I didn't seem so fat, actually the buoyancy got a lot worse and even with the 32kg weight including the 15lt steel tank, they weren't enough to keep me on the bottom. So today, I massively messed up one of the most promising dive sessions to hunt... In conclusion, the Detech coil does its job, but my transformation is definitely an act of stubbornness and I do not recommend repeating the work to anyone. Although in any other environment, this coil would be adorable, underwater it manifests all its terrestrial nature ... I recommend watching the video to people who are not faint of heart or stomach, without minors around. Bad language censored and copyright defective. Cheers all of You! https://youtu.be/4xKkc_5UmJg
  11. Hi, there. I was using my TDI BH for almost two years now. It worked great till the las week then I noticed an important sensitivity drop. In other words, the detector switches on and work as usual, but no matter what I do, I am getting less depth on my targets. Just to give you some numbers. My test target is a nickel coin which I was detecting from 27 cm a least (10us, gain full, gb off). Now, under the same conditions I can detect the same coin at 10-12 cm only. It is not the matter of the battery, as I have tested it with different batteries I have laying around. The TDI have a couple if weeks warranty left, but I have some doubts about my dealer's possibilities. On top of that the type of the fail is rare. Looks like the detector work as it should if not the lower detecting depth. For the person who is not familiar with TDI BH, this type of defect could be not so obvious. Any ideas what could be the reason? Thanks.
  12. A friend traded me an old Tdi Sl for my old Canon DSLR with a couple lenses. The camera was old but still worked well and perhaps worth a couple hundred at most, so I threw in a telephoto lens and we had a deal. I got a dead or dying Tdi Sl in exchange. The machine would power on etc everything seems to work except it will not ground balance and sensitivity was way down to almost nothing. Ok so not dead but way out of sorts at least. The previous owner has moved on after having done something to the machine. Yes he had opened it up and poked about and tried to make adjustments or something to it. He has lots of history when it comes to pulling things appart followed by difficulty in putting them back together. Let's say this is not his first Humpty Dumpty moment, rather one of many.. Looking at the PCB there is nothing to adjust? I'll take a closer look later now that the PCB is out. At worst I figured I would get some parts etc. Anyways, later I managed to obtain an SPP PCB and swapped them out. Plugged everything back as I would the TDI SL PCB. Sensitivity is back to normal, seems to work well. Pulse Delay as well as HI LOW ALL do not appear to work like they would on a Tdi SL , even though they are plugged into the board. It does appear to work as a Sierra Pulse Pro should. The SPP board is the latest with all the mods already done at the factory. The old White's rep in Australia has a few SPP boards left for about $70 US each. So I have an SPP for a while, until I can figure out how to repair the Tdi Sl PCB. I'll wait and see what happens. I've got a battery project on the boil and lots of real work to keep me busy. Locked down till mid August so I'll get busy playing with my projects during my spare time. I'll compare it to my Tdi Sl LE and see if performance differs, should be the same. In the image the left PCB is SPP. right PCB is from sick Tdi Sl. I think it was a good deal and the end result satisfactory for now. Even better if I can fix the original board.. All the best.
  13. I took my Excalibur out yesterday water hunting to an area I thought might hold some loot.....I was rewarded with a very nice Platinum ring. The area was inundated with old bottlecaps and even though the Excal was nulling them out perfectly, it was hard going and required a good deal of patience. Because of this, I have decided to keep the TDIBH strictly for beach work as using a PI in this area would have made me quit in disgust. The detector has been reassembled back to the original Coil as I was planning on swapping out for a smaller coil for the water. I feel too much time would be wasted using a PI in this area (And most of the areas I hunt in the water) and I needed to cover a lot of sea floor and make the most of the tides. I feel I’m going to be a 90% VLF user for the water, based on iron and iron alloy junk plus mineralised ground is not a problem. I’ll keep the PI for the lower beach and hard pan when I do hit these areas.
  14. I have decided to finally swap out my big 12” Dual field coil on my TDIBH for something smaller. The purpose is to use in the water. I have some pros and cons with each model so feel free to add any ideas you have. Coiltek Platypus 12x8. Waterproof, epoxy filled. Maybe too long on the 12” side which sees the most water resistance Detech 8” Mono. Foam filled so more buoyant but not too worried as 2/3 the size of the Dual Field coil. Good size. Waterproof. Garrett 8” Mono coil. Waterproof, epoxy filled. Good size. Suitable for lower delays? Garrett coil Coiltek coil Detech coil
  15. I was on my way back from a detecting trip near Winnemucca. I stopped in at Armadillo in Grants Pass, Oregon and saw this hanging on the wall. Apparently, there are only three in existence. This one belongs to Sam. From what I understand, she received this for being the top salesperson in the company with this model. I think this would have been a way better color than the original black!
  16. On the TDI Pro the upper handle was a bolt on assembly with separate part numbers The prototype models has a straight shaft, and the production models an S shaft. In either case you could remove the handle via four bolts to hip or chest mount the control box. Since the production models went S shaft, there were aftermarket straight shafts. Here is the Anderson aftermarket straight shaft for the TDI Pro: https://www.seriousdetecting.com/product/anderson-whites-tdi-metal-detector-black-carbon-fiber-shaft/ Does anyone have any part numbers for the original TDI upper handle? The SL models the handle does not normally separate (attaches from inside the control box) and so only White’s or White’s dealers would have access to the part number for the upper straight shaft or S shaft. The straight middle shaft 500-0288-1 or S shaft 802-5213 is standard on many whites detectors, and there is a “tall man” version 500-0240-1 of the S shaft. Does anyone know or have access to part numbers for the handle on the TDI SL, either straight or S shaft? The TDI Beachunter uses a removable shaft that can probably be retrofitted to the SL models with some drilling. This appears to be the White’s Diver Rod Kit, part # 802-5195-1, with straight middle shaft 500-0288-1 added, and may retrofit to the SL with some drilling. White’s Diver Rod Kit One of the best deals going in a rod assembly for years has been the Whites Space Saver Rod Kit for Classics and Early Goldmaster models, part number 802-5236. This may also retrofit the the SL and is in any case a good way to get some Whites Rod parts cheap. While they last. White’s Space Saver Rod Kit If anyone has any information they can add about any TDI model rod or shaft parts, now would be a great time to archive it while it’s still halfway easy to track down.
  17. this machine is new have used it for about a month never droped it or abused it , this is what is happeneing when i turn it on ,it starts overloading and moaning but only in the All or high position if i turn to low its a quite as a mouse turn it to all and it starts moaning and will not stop , any ideas?
  18. Started like a boring session this morning... Everything ready to do another underwater footage of mine but as usual, almost nothing can be done right as we want. Camera's battery dried up after 3 hours...Coins and garbage at some serious depth with the Tdi...After five hours, leaving the beach really destroyed, the last signal heard with died battery on the machine was the wedding band buried in few sand but too old to be a fresh drop.🤔...Clueless find even today.. So this is the only picture to show...
  19. I squeezed in few minutes a 4 hours session of today... Enjoy with me the two rings I found...
  20. was amazed at how the TDI could get this nickle thru this iron wire
  21. I'm so bored of my 12" dual field coil on my TDI bH that I now want to change the coil with an 8" mono. I know this can be a stupid question, but I try to ask... Can a Garrett Sea Hunter coil be adapted on the TDI? I need an open design coil to hunt underwater... The only other option is a Detech closed 8" mono...Which will float even more than now cause of the tdi control box balloon like buoyancy... Shoot your answers please mates!!!
  22. I've always had trouble getting the GB and Threshold exactly right on my TDI SL. After seeing Karelian's thread on the vernier knob, I decided to see what I could come up with. The problem with the control the guy suggested to him was that it had limited movement. Ideally, you want the vernier to turn as many turns as need to move the potentiometer through it's full range of travel. After hours of searching I found what I needed. A solid brass and stainless vernier with a 1:6 ratio. One full turn moves the GB pot about 1 1/2 numbers. I can now easily get the GB to that "just quiet" point, and it stays put. No more tree branches, or coat sleeves inadvertently moving the controls. I can easily set the Threshold to the very edge of my hearing, and as the batteries discharge and the Threshold creeps up, I can make a tiny adjustment and it's back on the money. As far as immediate and stark difference, this is the best mod I've done. It took me several hours to machine the bases, but the way I made it requires no physical mods to the machine. Remove the pot nuts, put the base on and replace the nut. I had to make shims for the pot shafts, as the verniers are made to fit a 1/4" shaft, and the shafts on the pots Whites used are .234". Had to make some very thin-walled round shims to glue inside the vernier sockets. I'm planning on selling these kits fort $150 for both controls, or $75 for a single. If anybody is interested, you can PM me here. Now I'm really looking forward to our Nevada trip in June! My SL is about as good as an SL will ever be. It's going to be interesting.
  23. So what would I dream White's would add and change on the Tdi Sl. Interesting to see what direction others would like White's to go in. Not asking them to reinvent the whole system, just significant tweeks to breath new life into the Tdi machines. 1.Keep the light weight body. A well balanced detector that is super light and easy to swing all day. 2. Replace the mounting setup, like the old Tdi Pro, please use screws so I can hip mount the detector quickly and easily. 3. Keep using the same battery system, just upgrade to a 16 volt rechargeable, or 4 x 18650 system. Extra voltage matched with upgraded components etc Push the boundaries.. 4. Retain the compatibility with MInelab coilts etc. 5. Upgrade the ground balance please, fine and course.. or a ten turn.... makes a big difference. 6. Yes I admit this sounds like a Tdi Pro in a smaller, lighter and better balanced rig. Only dreaming but far from impossible. Nothing mentioned here that has not been done by owners in the past as modifications of existing White's machines. I can live without hipmount on such a light and well balanced machine, I've already pushed the battery system to max, at 16 volts. I'll keep a lazy eye out for a solution to the ground balance knob, I've seen a two tier knob etc. Just dreaming.
  24. In a previous post few years ago, I read where a forum member I think it was REG was stating he had given Whites the information on how to do several modifications to improve performance. I think this was about Dec. 11, 2016 1. build battery pack using Panasonic 3400mah. 2. modify filters to allow for faster swing speed. (reduce value of c20 and c21 from 0.47uf to 0.22uf). and a few other changes. After that said, the TDI SL I just purchased shows it is a 2015 model. Am I correct in thinking these mods. were not done at factory? I am going to open up my unit and check c20 and c21. Also I purchased a Minelab Commander 15"x12" mono coil to try on my TDI SL. for Saltwater beach moderate mineralization. Will this improve performance better than stock coils or should I look at better options for the coil choice. I was hoping to also use for relic hunting at some old camp sites. After speaking with Jim, I have ordered the Panasonic 3400mah batteries to build my upgrade pack, and if need be will try to mod myself. I am new to this forum, have been hunting since 1994 or 1995. got away from detecting for a while then came back to my senses, forgot the motto you work to live not live to work lol. I have learned more from reading the forums that I have ever learned by my mistakes. I hope I can contribute something to this forum and pay forward for all of the ones that have helped me!
  25. Hey All, Measured White's TDI SL factory battery packs and discovered the following differences. NiMh Battery - HD #802-5321, 2200 mAh. After full a charge, one day later..........................................10.99 VDC AA Battery Holder - #802-7150, 8 cell. With Nuon Industrial Alkaline from White's Factory............12.94 VDC With Member's Mark Alkaline from Sam's Club...................12.96 VDC With Energizer Ultimate Lithium...........................................14.46 VDC Was very surprised that with Alkaline batteries, the tested voltage was higher than with the NiMh battery pack. Also, the NiMh battery pack seems to drop about 0.05 VDC a day. But the clear winner are the Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries at 14.46 VDC! Stay Safe!
