Yes, what a letdown.

 It pays to do the research before the hunt!

I do a a certain amount of old coin hunting at old home sites, and colonial cellar holes.

About the oldest coin I've found is a 1723 British Pence.

That's not bad at all!

My first whole old coin was an 1805 Half cent, but I did find cut 1721 Spanish silver 1 Reale coin pieces (pistareen) just before that. That really got me going. I've got quite a few really old ones now. 🙂 Hope you'll join in the fun here!
