Surprised By Vista Gold Gain And Stock Coil

There is a beach volleyball court near my place.  About a month ago, on my way home from another site, it was empty.  I had my super six coil on at the time, so I did a walk through the court...not being overly slow or thorough, but more trying to get a feel for the ground balance, how high I could have gain and sensitivity, etc.  Found the standard couple coins, but did get two stud earrings.  One silver stud with CZ, the other just plated with glass.  Not bad, I thought.  Here is pic for size.

 

Then, last week, I was going past it again, this time with VGG again, but with the stock 11" pitbull coil.  I decided to run it again, and go slower, and listen for deeper items, because it has multiple layers of deep sand.  I was thinking deep coins.  the only notable item I got was this stone with small setting.  Tone was clean and strong.  It was only 3 or 4 inches down, but pretty cool.  Basically told me unless I am concerned with too many targets under the coil at one time, no reason to take the larger coil off.

Rod,  So many detectorists walk right over those stud earrings and not even know it.  Proper coil control, good ears and knowing your Settings is key.  Keep at it and sooner or later one of them will be the real deal diamond stud.

Nice finds! I have the Gold Gain with 2 coils including the Supersix also. They are are great detectors. Runs thru nails nice and quiet.

Rick I have the super 6 coil and testing it with some gold flakes that don’t register on the scale it still hits it at a little over 3 inches. This is air test but don’t put much faith in air testing. I just don’t have the hot ground for a true test.

That Super 6 coil is nice. Thank you for the post. I haven't heard of anyone use gold prospecting. Sounds it will work well.

I’m going to try to make my own hot ground to  run near as possible to the real thing. I’ve got what I call iron stone and I’m going to crush it up then mix it with sand. Then I’ve got some metal filing’s I may wet down so to let them rust adding them as needed. Sounds more like I’m baking a cake.The trouble with some good testing ground it’s over a thousand mile drive for me to get the real thing. I don’t know why my grocery store down there street just don’t carry it.

 Hope to get this made up before the week is out and I’ll get back with the outcome.

If anyone out there has done what I’m talking about on my post above please step in and tell me the best way to go about it. If you know anything about doing it at all you know more than I do.
