Geovic and geological maps are all you need to find prospecting locations in Victoria. Do your research at home and mark all your intended prospecting spots onto a GPS before arriving here. Otherwise, you'll find yourself driving around in an unfamiliar area and wasting a lot of time. 

Geovic - The youtube videos below show a basic overview of how to use it. If you need help understanding anything related to Geovic just ask. I've been getting the official Victoria State Maps loaded on my phone.

Let me ask about batteries.

I have the 7000 that has a battery pack and I could take my 3030 battery.

I have the Equinox 800 which has internal batteries.

I could take a 2300 which has the rechargeable batteries.

Are all of these allowed?  (Check In or carry on?)

You might consider renting a 2300 or GPZ and take the 800 for backup and the beach...

I always take the control box in my carry-on and put the rest in my suitcase....I also take the owner's manual in my carry-on and put a copy on top of my stuff in the stowed baggage...the regs always say to carry-on any "Sensitive Electronics"...

On the other hand you might ask Paul- but- I think he left that part home last year...

since you are only flying to Sydney or Melbourne it should be simple...

Yes, DD has been there but I don't think he travels with the GPZ...maybe he will check in...
