They exist to reap views in order to sell advertising. As long as it is entertaining, I'll watch some of it and enjoy it for what it is, a diversion. I dont think anyone got paid to do it, it was more for the fun, prestige, or whatever with being part of the background of creating that episode. No personal rewards, other than the mental ones for being part of it.
