  1. Posted part of this a while ago on another forum.... Have been following with interest a bloke here with an SDC and the new 14" x 9". I took him to a recently scraped patch where you can always rake up beer money. Using my standard SDC I located 6 targets for him, 5 turned out to be gold and 1 was a tiny chip off a loader bucket. With his SDC fitted with the Coiltek 14X9 we could not hear 4 of the gold targets. The 1 gold target we did hear, we only heard it because we knew it was there. The bucket chip was clearly heard. No way would the nugget we did hear have pulled us up had it not been located first. On this same spot I found 12 more small pieces that day while he found none. The bigger coil certainly loses the sensitivity of the standard coil and he's pretty confident he's not getting bigger bits at depth either that he's getting with his 5000. This probably doesn't mean much and was in no way a definitive test. It's just what we found on the day and no doubt others experiences will differ.
  2. Brilliant Coota! So looking forward to butchering my 14"s lead and joining the ranks of the Xmen. Just have to think up a new super hero name
  3. Have to do much better than a rumour. Hold off? how long? Sorry I'm not waiting on a rumour
  4. Spot on! Every season I get people here intent on making thier fortune with a shiny new detector. Half the detectors just aren't suitable for finding gold and half the people just aren't suitable for living in the scrub. After a couple of days they soon learn gold doesnt just pop out of the ground, you have to really work for it. If you want a lifestyle become a prospector, if you want to get rich get a job.
  5. Yep...I don’t worry about all this alphabet stuff, I just get out there and do what works for me. But then I might be one of these crap detector operators I’ve been reading about lately. while it’s great having all this knowledge about how the detector works, I’d prefer to master how to work it and I’m getting there by experimenting, testing, swinging the damn thing and experience. Often the more you read about X, G, Y etc..the more confuddled you get, the more self doubt you create and therefore the less success and enjoyment you have.
  6. Hi Geof, Erlistoun station, I share a boundary with Nambi and am pretty sure I know Paul
  7. Fair enough, unfortunately though sometimes it comes across that anyone who uses an X coil is unethical, doesn't know how to use thier detector properly or is purposely hiding or not disclosing flaws. Maybe coils should be included with religion and politics in the list of things not to be discussed on forums.
  8. Practically the same taste as beef if not a bit better. I can't remember the last time I ate beef and I live on a cattle station. The town near by had thier annual camp oven cook off a few weeks ago and I supplied the camel for one of the entries. All the usual beef and chicken concoctions were there along with Asian dishes etc, but our camel curry came 3rd place
  9. yep and I saw the chip in the coil plug and very quickly knew I had no freaking idea what it did or was there for. So is anyone who ever modded or used a modded machine unethical?
  10. Last year I was off up the other end of the station when a herd of about 30 camels crossed the track in front of me. I grabbed the rifle, jumped out and legged it off after them in my shorts and thongs. Camels are stupid, you whack a few and they'll run a few hundred metres then stop. You catch up, whack a few more, they run a few hudred metres more then stop again. This went on for about 1/2 an hour before it dawned on me I am in the middle of spinifex with nothing but thongs on my feet. Carefully tip toed back to the ute weaving through the trails between the spinifex. On the way back I saw 3 Mulga snakes 1 Death Adder and a Gwardar.
  11. I'll try it and If it scores me more gold be it because of size, placebo or what ever I'll use it. If it doesn't work I'll go back to the stock ML coils including the 19" which I had good success with. I don't give a fig who makes it and who sells it, I just care if it scores me more gold as that is how I earn my income. I'm still trying to get my head around the moral side of things? What's the big difference between using after market coils on any other machine? Nobody is altering the ML chip or counterfieting it and infact still using it. We put after market chips in cars, computers and any number of other gadgets, we alter crap every day to make things work better that the way they come off the factory floor. How come we suffer moral outrage about somethings and not others.
  12. X factor, ferrite balance, touch sensitivity etc..etc.. Those things aside, if it helps my gold tally I'm fine with that and the only way I'll know is by whacking one on the end of my detector. While I respect Jp's opinion, I also respect Dave's opinion and that of others here having success with the new coils. I trust that thier observations and successes are true. As for the moral aspect and legalities of cutting the cord or bypassing the chip or ML's I.P. or whatever you want to call it, I run 16ply rag tyres on split rims. Split rims for my Perentie cost $1500 a pop from LandRover. I got Toyota split rims, had the guts cut out and LandRover centres grafted in at a cost of $175 a pop. Does that make me a bad man?
  13. This year over here poachers, thieves and general DH's will find themselve as yootoob stars
  14. Not always. You have general purpose coils and ground specific coils. You are not going to hit the scrapes with a 20" coil looking for sub grammers
  15. Brilliant coil in the right ground!
  16. Many thanks for this thread Rick, following it with interest. Put my order in for a Ruski jobbie last night, eagerly awaiting its arrival.
  17. Still a big Toyota Cruiser fan but I have to say as a dedicated detecting vehicle my Perentie runs rings around my cruisers. Economy wise I'm not sure of the figures but I know when I picked it up I drove about 4200 klms home and fuel cost was around $450.00au For those that don't know a Perentie is basically a Landrover 110 but built in Australia for the Australian Millitary. Alluminium body with a galvanized chassis and a 3.9 Isuzu diesil truck motor. Fulltime 4x4 with low range plus front and rear lockers.
  18. With Aust post make sure it's registered and insured post. I sent a Swarovski rifle scope off for a service, registered with signiture required. Disappeared into the ether it seems. They've just agreed to reimburse me $50 + postage. Not bad for a $1700 scope
  19. Well done!!! Was a bit scared to open the thread based on the header but glad I did
  20. Probably as many patches still out there as have been found, just have to look for and walk over them.
