  1. I have 8 claims that I work enough to qualify for my Small Miners Exemption. Some quite a bit more than others. I am not 8 "small miners". Just one. Some I would work more but California has, in effect, banned mining on them.
  2. I've replaced that switch probably 5 or 6 times on my GB2. They just wear out. The switch that I use was from Radio Shack. (275-664) It had the nut on the outside so it is easy to tighten. BTW, the iron id and the "mineral" switch next to it are the same switch.
  3. I don't think there is room for a detector.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hok9KWjJ5tc
  4. Yes, Chris, you are right. YOU (the detectorist, prospector) have the responsibility to know if there is an active claim where you are going. Especially if there are markers all over the place.
  5. If you can detect 20 acres in a few days and not leave much of anything, you are superman!!
  6. I always carry several water bottles with me. I never leave them home. I think it's a good idea. If I don't drink them, the dog is always thirsty
  7. Two small items I carry in my pack are dental floss for repairs(Boy, is it tough!) and eye drops(more than once, I have gotten "stuff" in an eye.)
  8. It all adds up.. A lot bigger than the couple 1/2 grainers I fd.
  9. I use the AT pointer all the time. Saves time and keeps me from "hitting" a good coin.
  10. good finds for everyone. (I have one of those 1886 $5 gold pieces too.)
  11. What is the black item below the spoon and just left of the pinpointer?
  12. Notice that the E's and T's on the top one don't look like your decal but the A on the top looks right....
  13. Funny how you can find a quarter oz. piece right on top of the ground and nothing else close by.
  14. I guess I could have waited for a better day..... grin But, it would have been a great day if I had found what I was looking for.
  15. I spend the other day swing the ATX with the 20" coil (all day long) on a 60 degree slope in 102 degree temp. I think I was nugget hunting..... I don't know. I didn't find any.
  16. reread Steve's last paragraph again. Quartz is only one instance where cobbles can have a different nature than the overall mixture.
  17. cutting out the pine trees to make room for the aspen. no survey.
  18. the quakies are the deciduous trees.... but, to answer your question, probably not...
