  1. Make sure you get a coil cover for the large coil if they make one. I got mine out of the case today to use it and it looked to fragile to bump into the rocks without a cover. So, I left it home.
  2. Quartz never presents a problem anywhere I've known. I know it can in the ground(or, on top of the ground). I figured if you thought it was going to be a problem such that you had to build a bed of quartz, there must be such a place. Most places I've seen, quartz may be strewn around from erosion but never makes up the bulk of the soil.
  3. Where would you have so much quartz that it would cover the ground? Not saying there isn't such a place but what part of the earth?
  4. When you get yours done and working, you can do mine......
  5. Of course, the Gold Bug 2 would work for both in a VLF. Used in the $400-500 range
  6. I've found five $5 gold pieces but I'd sure like a $20 or maybe a $50 (grin)
  7. Mike, let me put my 2 cents in here for the Salmon river... Much of the bedrock is too hot for the GB2. I know from experience. You will do best with a PI and a small coil. BTW, I do have the ATX and have no problem finding nuggets with it. I wish I could afford the small coil though.
  8. Nice video and gold. That area must have been withdrawn from mineral entry? No claims since 1985....
  9. I've heard of people putting sand in paint and then painting the bottom of a bare sluice box. Like a non-slip step.
  10. More news...... My son emailed the company that did the salvage..... their reply was that the story was all a hoax by the people that put out the news report. Seems all the articles are phony and are for entertainment purposes only. Part of it is true...See where they tried to drain the lake in the 1500's The gold artifacts in the pics are real too
  11. Small amounts of gold can be separated by panning and using the "tap the edge of the pan" method. I have a BB but use the above mentioned method most of the time because the BB is so darn slow.
  12. Ridge Runner....I have a Gold Bug Pro that wouldn't detect a "rice size" piece of gold until I sent it in for repair(because it wouldn't detect that size...I knew it should). Now, no problem with that or smaller. Steve and Ray, let's see the results....
  13. Seems as though both won't work AFTER being shipped...... Could they have been "zapped" with something in the mailing process?
  14. GPR for location nuggets??? Man, if you find one, you'll be rich because it will probably have to be many pounds(which is not very large in volume) in size to be visible.. Again, as Steve said, not trespassing on someone else is going to be a challenge.
  15. I just have to ask.... have either of you any experience at all with detectors? If not, you should get some long before you come West. (even relic or coin experience would be a great help) It takes some people months if not years to learn their detector and find their first nugget. It may take some time to find an area that is not claimed or private to detect also. My suggestion before you buy anything, contact someone like Arizona Outback Prospection(one that comes to mind) which sells detectors and gives "on ground" instructions on how to use them and get their suggestions.
  16. In my experience with gravel bars, the larger gold has dropped out upstream of the blacksands...
  17. As far as finding deep gold in a gravel bar, I don't think you will find any detector that will do that. Best bet is finding one that will detect the black sands. As far as that goes, a common gold pan will do that. It's called testing, testing, testing.
  18. I understand about the rechargeables. But you said you bought non rechargeables at Batteries Plus and followed that with the "C batteries are rare" statement. Led me to believe you were talking about non rechargeables........
  19. "C" cell batteries are rare?????? They are everywhere in the stores around here. This must be a different "C" cell that you are talking about??
