  1. Nice find... I'm wondering if it wasn't drilled out somehow for a ring and broken while pounding on the outside? Doesn't seem very deformed for a bullet that large?? I hope it was shot out.... just wondering. https://www.google.com/search?q=coins+with+bullet+holes&tbm=isch&tbs=rimg:Cagn50rd1uEZIjjifI7X2udRqWfk-kaDebCU3M1bo_1ORfubOfXyriYgoGUhRqKmDGav6qSC5DzUdZcZeJJT-f5Dx4ioSCeJ8jtfa51GpEaFLAqgGrGikKhIJZ-T6RoN5sJQR5CdCjbGOwRQqEgnczVuj85F-5hFvp8PXVBqA4SoSCc59fKuJiCgZEXz8VIwMU8VAKhIJSFGoqYMZq_1oRsqnsKN3xj3sqEgmpILkPNR1lxhEQRR0ywKwrzyoSCV4klP5_1kPHiER-AEDITyJSX&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjJ0cmcpeTXAhXHhVQKHcceB9AQ9C8IHA&biw=1372&bih=915&dpr=1
  2. Don't get discouraged yet... Many people have gone months and even years before finding their first gold. Keep at it and remember that if you don't get it under your coil, you'll never hear it. I suggest going to areas where there is evidence of mining. They didn't get it all. Good place to find your first piece.
  3. Under the graph it says "Bryce Ryan & Neal Gross (1943)" What does that mean?
  4. well, I'd be hitting that stretch slow and hard. nice
  5. "I'll also follow the consensus here and dig anything else that doesn't lock on ID 20/21" If you were waiting for it to lock on 20/21 to dig, I guarantee you went over gold.
  6. The best advice I can give you is that if you detected almost every day this summer in or close to old pocket mines and didn't find a single piece of gold, would be to dig all those "iffy" signals. Sometimes gold doesn't always sound or display like gold. You probably went over a piece or two......
  7. A really nice find!! I'd like to just hold it in my hand. I'd have to break out the nitro if I found that..... Write-up must have been written by a Minelab dealer....... at 6 inches any detector should have been able to find it? "Weighing more than a kilogram (1,176gms), the nugget was 15cms (six inches) below the ground and discovered thanks to the advanced gold-finding technology of the Minelab GPX 5000 detector. " Not putting down Minelabs. They are great machines.
  8. My son dropped a picker on the floorboard of his vehicle about a year ago. He finally vacuumed his car and panned the debris out. He found a lot more than the one piece. I wish he had taken a pic. You did good Phoenix.....
  9. The last part of this thread probably doesn't belong in the Garrett forum? Came across this video for testing batteries. Very easy to understand.
  10. I knew you would have the answer Steve. Maybe two batteries weak?.... almost exactly 1/2 the voltage difference between the packs. I'll have to get a load tester. Which one do you use? Puzzles me why after two days (maybe 10 hours) , did it use so little juice from one battery pack? Thanks.
  11. As ATX users know, it uses two sets of 4 AA batteries. Each going into separate compartments. The other day, my detector said it was going dead after several days of use. Before removing the batteries from their holders, I decided to check the voltage. One set was about 2.4 volts and the other was about 4.9 volts! I am using rechargeable which normally charge up to about 5.1 or 5.2 volts per set. So, one set had little use. The detector was operating normal. What feeds on these batteries...... does one set get more use than the other?
  12. Why is this not under "metal detecting for coins and relics"? Found it by accident....
  13. " but we aren't the police and didn't want conflict." ......................... good judgment "Perhaps these prospectors had the required permission " ..................... maybe they did? My advice is that unless you know a crime is being committed, don't do anything. Now, you could contact the owners and say, "I see you are giving permission to detect on your claim/property. Could I get permission too" By asking, you may be the only one that ends up getting permission.
  14. I would normally look at the "Detector forum"......or maybe "coin and jewelry" If I look at the "unread content"...... I see under "past hour" a post in the Detector forum(with a Minelab topic)...Under "today", I see a post in the "detector forum" at the beginning one here and there and one at the end. In "yesterday", there is another post in the "Detector forum". I don't see how to combine them in "unread content"... probably there. I just don't see it. Isn't it easier to just look at the Detector forum?
  15. I don't know about everyone else, but I find it takes longer to sort through the "unread content" than it does to look at the "full forums" and skip the ones I don't want to read.?? Just saying... not complaining.
  16. Only 10 minutes from your old house and you didn't know they were there?
  17. Lots of coins.... Anything good or just pocket change? Pre 1982 pennies? Worth double
  18. My mistake.... Koss ur20's cost $14 Ur30's cost $90 What I said still applies though.
