  1. Thanks. Good info and not surprising since ML’s biggest challenge with Vanquish was providing a machine that was stable on salt beaches. As a result, it is less optimized (or less hot) than Equinox for mid conductive targets (IOW not an ideal relic or small gold jewelry machine) and will hit silver and other high conductors well. The only other question (besides signal processing like you mentioned) being whether it automatically dials back Transmit power when encountering black sand (or mineralized soil) like EQX does in Beach 1. Nice “compromise” general purpose mode approach by ML.
  2. Well, not having made that huge investment yet, myself... But seriously, Minelab needs to consider whether they are going to court those who have already invested in the Zed and new buyers, or new buyers only. I suspect that ML will want to attract existing and new users, so some performance enhancement likely needs to be part of the equation. But frankly, an updated, lighter version of the GPX with similar power would be all I am really looking for and I would be willing to " upgrade" from my current GPX even if the performance enhancement were marginal.
  3. Getting one myself, since the product description says dual TX/RX compatibility in the 5.0 version writeup I assume that it may not have been present in the 4.1 design. I notice that TaoTronics did not make this claim in their similar device writeup.
  4. Julio, I upgraded my BTS Pros over a year and half ago so I am not familiar with the PC prompts anymore. My suggestion is to try to reach out to sdbirder by PM or ask 66 Audio for the beta firmware via email. Good Luck.
  5. Simply plug the Killer B's into the WM08 module using a simple mini-plug adapter and you have untethered Killer B's. If you still want to go the BT APTX LL route the following phones have gotten good reviews from forum members: https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Headphones-Lightweight-Transmitter/dp/B075VLWPXF/ref=sr_1_15?crid=172K8DW08OMSX&keywords=aptx+ll+headphones&qid=1579550842&sprefix=Aptx+LL%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-15 https://www.amazon.com/Headphones-AUKEY-Bluetooth-Water-Resistance-Commuting/dp/B07GBVCZZX/ref=sr_1_13?crid=172K8DW08OMSX&keywords=aptx+ll+headphones&qid=1579550842&sprefix=Aptx+LL%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-13 https://www.amazon.com/Miccus-Upgraded-Bluetooth-Headphones-Isolating/dp/B01GGKNYOQ/ref=sr_1_20?crid=172K8DW08OMSX&keywords=aptx+ll+headphones&qid=1579550842&sprefix=Aptx+LL%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-20 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IEHIMLY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/slredirect/picassoRedirect.html/ref=pa_sp_atf_aps_sr_pg1_2?ie=UTF8&adId=A097530334F2NR9NLAKSA&url=%2FAvantree-Bluetooth-Headphones-Computer-Watching%2Fdp%2FB07VKYV9Z2%2Fref%3Dsr_1_2_sspa%3Fcrid%3D172K8DW08OMSX%26keywords%3Daptx%2Bll%2Bheadphones%26qid%3D1579551168%26sprefix%3DAptx%2BLL%2Caps%2C133%26sr%3D8-2-spons%26psc%3D1&qualifier=1579551168&id=2866703208093154&widgetName=sp_atf Soundpeats made a compatible set of earbuds that were APTX LL but they seem to discontinued. Note that the Trond and the Miccus Headphones are "clones" of the ML phones. I use the Miccus phones and they have audio superior to their ML clones which I too have found to be muddy/muffled in comparison. Strange but true. Beside the Miccus and Paww phones, I have not verified the others but they SHOULD work based on the specs.
  6. Seems like a lot of trouble to go about masking this information by spoofing serial number sequences. Really? This isn't a spy plane. What does it matter, anyway? Is anyone really going to make a buy decision based on the number sold or based on performance and features? They can run their railroad any way they like, and it is their prerogative to keep sales confidential just like any other manufacturer, but I hope they are focusing on making the detector all it can be performance wise rather than trying to promote some sort of faux mystique ("There's a reason users are not promoting the detector...". etc.).
  7. Take care of that back, Simon. Those injuries can be tricky to pinpoint the cause so let your body's response be your guide to keep from re-injuring it. I have a regular physical therapist in my phone directory due to my chronic lower back issues - the key is doing exercises to build up your core muscles to improve stability and symmetry in load distribution. Make sure you make use of that harness included with your new Zed. It is well designed and will save your back. I use it for all extended detecting sessions with the GPX now and hang my recovery kit (finds pouch, pinpointer, digger) off it when relic hunting in the field. Get well soon so you can play with your new toy.
  8. I understand your point regarding digital compression of wireless audio signals, but I find that modern wireless audio transmisdion has pretty good fidelity. Most of the digital audio artifacts are introduced in the digital signal processing by the detector itself. Equinox tends to suffer from this. Obviously not an issue with the analog Impulse AQ. Actually, I have found the Deus to have the best tonal nuances of any detector I have used. The difference between a nickel, gold ring, and pull tab all with similar visual ID numbers have subtle audio differences that are apparent to a trained ear. Irregularly shaped aluminum presents an accordingly disorted audio signal that is telltale. The Deus is an audio machine first and foremost and a pretty good one at that. Regarding wireless audio, I have successfully configured my GPX to transmit audio wirelessly via low lag BT. Audio nuances are key with the GPX and I have seen no degradation in audio quality whether wired or wireless. All that being said, as I commented previously, there is no reason why both wireless and wired audio cannot be provided on the same machine, so it all seems like a moot point. Give the end user appropriate options and you will have a winner.
  9. There is no reason that wireless and a submersible machine are mutually exclusive. See Equinox. Designing it to use a wired set of phones for submerged use and wireless for above water ops is exactly how Equinox was configured. So it is a valid feature for future consideration on any Impulse variant. But again, Fisher has bigger fish to fry (pardon the pun) in the near term just to get the requisite regulatory certification for the AQ. Speculating about later Impulse variants and features is at least a year down the road.
  10. Yeah, I have seen XP Americas refer to that elliptical as the 9.5" coil on their website, so I guess they go back and forth on that one. No biggie, the metric dimensions are exact so people can use Google to do the exact conversion if they are so inclined. Thanks again for the compilation. You really have to dig around the various XP online pages to compile this info on your own.
  11. Great roundup of specs, Steve. Couple of comnents. I know the "inch equivalent" dimensions are approximate, but regarding the HF elliptical, 24 cm = 9.44 inches so I typically refer to that as a 9.5 x 5 inch coil. All the other inch equivalent dimension approximates are close enough within a few tenths of an inch. FWIW - there are software backwards compatibility issues with the newer coils. The original LF coils will work with any version of Deus software from Ver 1 through Ver 5.21 (the latest release). The HF coils and X35 coils are not compatible with SW below version 4.X and the X35 coils require version 5.X for full functionality (the HF coils have full functionality with either version 4.X or 5.X software). The Deus SW upgrade features allow you to roll back to any previous "stable" or "bug free" version of the Deus software though coil functionality is limited as stated above and HF coils should not be "downgraded" to ver 3.2 or below as you may "brick" them, rendering them unusable and requiring a trip to the repair facility for recovery. Note that any time you upgrade or downgrade software versions, all custom program and controller/coil profile settings are deleted and reset to factory defaults. Now that I have confused everyone...enjoy the info.
  12. Rick, thanks for the up close AQ pics and for a quick recovery from your health issues.
  13. Managed to run this test, finally. Unfortunately my results with the BT 4.1 version units duplicated yours. For some unfathomable reason, the units do not receive in APTX LL mode even though they transmit in APTX LL mode. So much for these little guys being a poor man's substitute for the WM08. This despite the following statement in the product description: APTX & APTX LOW LATENCY. Powered by premium CSR8670 chipset, TROND BT-DUO supports aptX & aptX Low Latency in both TX and RX mode. You can watch movies while listening to wireless audio in a synchronized fashion and without any noticeable audio delay. SMH.
  14. I would just be happy to see the stock machine released. Rick's production unit had to be sent back to meet regulatory certifcation upgrades. Looks like we are still several months away from release. So talking about aftermarket coils seems like next year's issue, at this point.
  15. Me too. Lighter, more ergonomic, and environmentally rugged (at least weatherproof) PI or ZVT package with the exact same performance specs would be worth it for me. The only thing that would factor into my decision would be the resulting price point.
  16. You have to use the firmware file posted above, it was a beta feature not officially supported by 66 Audio by any official firmware release. Be sure to follow the install instructions here as this file's installation procedure is different than the officially released firmware package you can download from the site.
  17. You can't fool me, Chuck, I bet you don't limp but leap like a Gazelle as you gracefully detect your secret honey holes and show your grandkids just how it should be done.
  18. Chuck, The thing is depth is never the issue anymore with detectors built within the last 5 to 10 years. Depth is driven mainly by coil size and transmit power not by the detector electronics and signal processing capability as far as vlf ib detectors are concerned. An ACE 250 will punch as deep as an Equinox. The question is (for experienced detectorists) how does it perform in thick junk (recovery speed), how well does it mitigate ferrous falsing, how accurate does it ID non-ferrous at the limits of detection depth, how versatile is it for varying site conditions (salt and mineralization), and how well does it do over the entire range of target types, conductivities, shapes, and sizes (mainly driven by the capability to operate at more than one discrete frequency). That is what separates the value units from the the more expensive "pro" detectors that serous detectorists are seeking out. That being said, are the Simplex and the Vanquish decent detectors? You bet and they perform better than their similarly priced competion (e.g., the Ace series) as far as some of the other performance parameters (beyond depth) that I mentioned above. Are they as versatile as an Equinox 600, Anfibio, or ORX? Nope. So I don't think detectorists who know their stuff are overlooking these new value offerings, they simply understand the limitations of these new detectors and realize that regardless of their attractive price point, they don't add anything to their existing detector arsenals so why bother acquiring them. Therefore, ML is focusing on the newbie/novice and those folks don't even know they are looking for a detector until they run across one at Dicks and see this shiny box on the shelf that says "Multi IQ" and they think - wow that must be some new magic technology that will net me some instant treasure at a rock bottom price just like those guys on TV. Sold!
  19. Glad you got it back,Chuck. Good deal. Hope you can keep it out of the detector hospital for keeps now.
  20. What does it matter for an entry level detector in the hands of an experienced detectorist such as yourself? I have personal relationships with my dealers , and would rather give them my business, too. But in the case of the vanquish I don't need personal service to just buy a box containing something I already know how to operate. If you want it now, ML has made the marketing decision to get the detector on big box sports stores as an impulse buy for the novice detectorist, the target market segment. Not the specialist dealer catering to us detector geeks and geezers. They don't expect to sell many of these to hard core detectorists so will focus on the Dicks and the Walmarts. This is simply sound Buisness 101. And frankly ML is more business focused than customer focused and that is a key difference between ML and, say, Nokta.
  21. BTW, if you are able to run gold mode stable on the wet sand on that beach, then that must mean that the beach has low salt content. It is practically impossible for me to run gold mode on wet salt sand without having to lower sensitvity below practical usefulness. Dry sand, no problem, though.
  22. I would just send the motor back to save on shipping costs.
  23. Because we have have so much real world performance data on the AQ vs. the ATX... You may eventually be proven right, but right now we know practically nothing about real world performance of AQ with in the hands of an average detectorist vs. any established PI with the exception of a few posted edited videos. Better than we had before Rick got his production unit, but still scant real world performance data, nevertheless.
  24. Deus doesn’t have a true all metal mode. About the closest usable facsimile (i.e., minimal filtering) is Gold Field where you can run with zero iron rejection (not discrimination like the other modes Deus Dast, Hot Deep, etc.) with VCO audio and you can apply a non-SAT threshold tone. It is a motion mode, though. In addition to pinpoint, there are 3 non-motion modes Audio Disc, All Metal, and Disc. Haven’t used them much, but non-motion All Metal (the mode you referenced in the thread title) will sound off on anything that changes the ground reference (targets or ground mineralization fluctuations).
