  1. I've also been waiting to get validated. I really don't care now. Just wanted to see the pictures. But this is why Steve's forum is the best. He stays on being a great moderator, keeping the topics to the point.
  2. I already had some stitching come undone. Had the leather guy restitch it. Got some more starting to unravel. Nuggetshooting isn't a stroll through the park. We are in rugged terrain. We demand top quality products. Again minelab baffles me with their use of inferior products. SMH
  3. I see a slight difference in the sensitivity. A little better. And a more stable threshold.
  4. I keep my finds in the"RIGHT BANK" ! Or is it the left bank. Only 3 people know where it is. Me, myself and I ! Lol
  5. I mount the Velcro bungee hook supplied with the 7000 right below the handle on the shaft. It keeps the detector balanced without wrapping the bungee around the handle and display.
  6. I wear my pro swing harness. I riveted a carpenter's hammer holder on the harness between my shoulder blades for my pick. So no room for a backpack.
  7. I just recently purchased the Garrett Carrot Pinpointer. I really like it. The issue is the GPZ7000 does not like to be within 4 feet of it. And that is with the pinpointer off. I swing the detector with my left arm. I put the pinpointer in my finds sack on my right rear belt side. Every time I swing right I would get a signal from the pinpointer. My pick, old pinpointer, and trash in the sack, no problem. But the Garrett Carrot sets the GPZ7000 off. I really like the pinpointer, but can't carry it with me. Will have to leave it with my water and lunch and go get it when the rare times I need it.
  8. I bought the Miner John coil cover. And put a thin bead of Kiwk clear caulking around the seam.Keeps about 98 percent of the dirt out. Plus if you want to clean, you can peel the caulking off fairly easily.
  9. Was able to score about 2grams on 2 lil nuggets in the patch today. I noticed the threshold was slightly smoother. The sensitivity was also slightly more powerful. I picked up some small bits of deeper trash. One thing I didn't like about the update was I had to reset the wm12, time zone, etc.... You would think with today's technology on computers, all of those presets could have been saved. But overall pleased with the update.
  10. It is simple to download. Takes about 5 minutes. Gonna give the new algorithm a try today. Will report back to HQ and my superior Kernel Klunker. Notice the misspelling. He makes nuggets POP out of the ground!
  11. Make sure your battery is close to fully charged. I tried to upgrade with a battery I used after a day of detecting. Had to switch to a charged battery and re-download the update.
  12. Just saw on Facebook that minelab has released a gpz update. From Facebook and finders keepers also on Facebook.
  13. I too have encountered areas here in the Northern Sierras that I could not get the GPZ 7000 to quiet down. I'm guessing the rocks were andesite. They were positive and negative hot rocks. You could somewhat tune a positive rock out, but the negative would still sound off. And vice versa. And basalt is the same. I would put it in difficult, lower the sensitivity, high smoothing, to no avail. Even in severe it was sounding off. But this was in only a few areas. Near some of my proven patches. 99 percent of the time I could run quiet in normal and Difficult.
  14. Found the nuggets metal detecting this summer. They were found in a straight line, approximately 30 ft apart. And found in order from left to right. On separate occasions. Guessing how they interlock, that they were one nugget at one time. Then eroding out of the same piece of quartz. Pretty cool I think!
  15. Getting harder to find the gold. But the patch is still giving it up.
  16. The sensitivity +- button doesn't always work. It shuts off on its own. Even with fresh batteries. Not super sensitive. And priced higher than the other comparable pinpointers. Ill probably be in the market for the Garrett Carrot. But I do love my Zed!
  17. Maybe Minelab will send me a prepaid envelope and a refund for my POS Minelab Pinpointer. Worst pinpointer ever.
  18. I was only able to come out for the night. So no detecting there. But have pulled out close to 1/2 ounce in the last 2 trips up here in the high country. I feel snow is coming early. So better hurry up and get up here.
  19. Nice stuff Rick. I had a blast at the outing. Excellent steaks for dinner. Hats off to the chef's.
  20. Idk really why I chose those settings. I've been trying different setups every time I go back. The easy targets have mostly been picked by me. It was a quite windy day. And working the fringes of the patch. Seemed to be more trash targets there. The soil is fairly hot there. So I tried something different. It seemed to bang out the small dinkers. The smallest one in the picture I got at a foot. The biggest at 4 inches. What gives? When I go back out detecting again, I'm going to run in normal and close to factory defaults. I'll have more noise, but it might bang out some deeper targets that I can smash into.
  21. Ergonomics! Real life users should be able to give real life input to the manufacturers before the final release. The company's should truly listen and implement the con's that the user's list. It seems the engineer's get caught up on form before function. Real life users can spot the functionality flaws of the ergonomics immediately. Because we are seeing it from a different perspective.
  22. Running difficult, sensitivity cranked to 20, high smoothing. And a higher than I'm used to threshold. Loud mosquito hum.
