  1. Not bad, at least you found something. Pencil eraser bands always trip me up, get my hopes up they are a gold ear ring.
  2. Did a quick test in my yard with the settings but find it a little on the jittery side and need to drop the sensivity a notch or 2. It does gain a quite a bit of depth but not sure if it's worth the noise. Almost reminds me of the AT Max. When I get a chance I'll test it in the local puddle and see if it falses out or has trouble before I do the factory reset.
  3. I swapped out my Nel Big coil on my AT Pro and put the stock coil on and just for kicks I did a quick air test to see if there was any difference and I found that the targets now hit 15-20% further away ie dime at 10 inch instead of 8. For those that don't have Garrett machines and a 3rd party coil, the procedure when changing coil Garrett says to do a factory reset of the machine. So if anyone knows, does using a large coil setting on a stock coil essentially do a tx boost? Do other machines require factory reset after changing coils?
  4. In a mixed mode do you lose the slight edge in depth that you normally get in AM mode or does it depend on the detector? On my Tejon even though it is analog, if I set disc 1 to AM and disc 2 for disc mode (clicked out of AM mode) I can hear a faint target but if i toggle to disc2 that sound will be trimmed out even if it is in the metal response range but happens to be on the fringe. Lastly how accurate would that VID be if in AM mode? I am assuming there would be some sort of filtering for the digital signal processor to be able to display the correct vid based on target response?
  5. Wow, thats some nice research. Now I'm going to have to wallow around knee deep in poison ivy to find the 72! I looked it up and compared the front and it is a large moto. Font is more refined and thinner than the small moto.
  6. Figured I'd give it a dunk and get the dust off 🙂
  7. Thanks. I have no clue why the edges were so beat up. It was in a pine forest that usually destroy copper so it being bronze might explain a lot. Maybe the alloy wasn't mixed as well as it could be Bronze being copper and tin, who knows. Will go back to that area once the frost comes as much of it is shin-knee deep in poison ivy. Does look like a small moto :0
  8. Was debating on taking my AT Pro or try my luck with the Sea Hunter at local pond I have hit before where there is a sandy beach with little trash. Ended up with the Pro and snagged this bracelet 14k 1.42grams, rest of the jewelry is gold plated but still gets your blood moving when you see it in the water. Very tricky fishing the earings out through my scoop and lost a few others as they were just too small for me to see in the water. For those that still use the AT Pro just set it to zero mode and turn off the iron audio. I fly by audio mostly anyways and occasionally look at the vid.
  9. Looks like an interesting machine but seems the iron audio is non existent in all metal mode 1 but not sure. They are pretty vague on the 2 fixed discrim modes too so not sure what those cut out besides iron level. I know a few spots I wouldn't mind putting it through the paces but hard to spring $600-$700 just to see.
  10. I contacted Nokta and was told that yes the CF77 is an analog machine. Has anyone here tried one out in the field?
  11. Make sure your skimming the ground on that one. Target is small and might just about need to touch it with the coil. Buddy of mine is new and tends to swing is coil couple inches off the ground, drives me crazy hehe.
  12. A pewter lapel pin and when i sent the pic to a buddy I said, look at the cool matchbox car i found... didn't mention the nickels hehe. Not one ring. I'll hit it again this fall after the killer frost that knocks some the weeds down, been a couple years since I been there. I do find lots of nickels in parks, think your right on people digging high tones.
  13. Most the dates were were 2000's but few going back to late 60's. Nothing old enough to get giddy over.
  14. Couple years ago I hit one of the swim holes not too far away and in a 10-15 sq ft area hit nickel after nickel......... Was thinking someone was trying to drown their kid by stuffing coins in their pocket and telling them to go for a swim.
  15. Does the other pick up at all in All Metal Mode?
  16. I finally couldn't take the random falsing on my Profind 35 and called in for an RMA. This time I got outstanding service! My previous encounter was not all that pleasant but glad they came through. The pointer is really nice and iron signal actually works!
  17. So the Vanquish doesn't use anti gravity alien technology as depicted in the video ? I'm less worried about notching, I find I risk losing more than just cutting out trash. It is however handy if you don't have good audio or tone roll. Granted finer notching gets you closer to the edge of good and bad targets but I think there are just too many variables that kick a particular target beyond the typical fringes.
  18. Wonder why such a low frequency? I really like the idea of the guts of the detector in the headphones only and no box on the shaft. Curious how they perform.
  19. Didn't like the battery box I had so I got around to snagging a small 2xAAA box with swtich and leads already done which of course changed everything else as the dorks put the battery door on the opposite side of the switch. Anyways I printed a part out on my sla printer so the plastic is a bit fragile but gives me a working model. All soldered up it works nice, it's compact and easily detaches since it just velcro's on the top. That little backlight panel works good. Anyone wants the cad file to fiddle with some more or have some printed on a more applicable printer like fdm or sls just pm me and I'll zip it up. I can also supply the stl.
  20. Looks like it has a the flat spring metal momentary switch so either it isn't releasing OR there might be some moisture behind it causing it to short. If it's under warranty id give Fisher a hollar. Should be an easy fix for them.
  21. I have 2 coils on my Tejon. 8x9 conentric I use in high trash areas and parks (same thing) and a 10x12 i use for woods and fields. I got lazy and left the widescan on and hit a local park and came across bottle cap after bottle cap and could not find a good tone break to cut them out without losing too much range. I saved a couple and tucked them in my back yard 6" down and did a quick test. I set my 2nd discrim for break on the widescan and the primary for the concentric and there is a huge jump between them. Both discrim match up on other items such as coins and rings, pull tabs. Note that both coils actually ground balance the same and the widescan can pick up the tiniest pieces of lead and foil. I have found lead pellets from a pellet gun 4-6" down with it. I can also place a cast iron hammer head half over a dime and still hear just the dime though broken signal It's there. So I am really stumped on the bottle caps. Maybe someone here knows why.
  22. You typically don't need a respirator for small plating unless you plan on planting your face 2-3 inches from your work. There are modern alternatives that are much greener and safer if you plan on getting into it. One supplier I use is Contenti and other is Casswell. Contenti used to sell some environmentally safer plating materials. Usually you would clean the part ie ultrsonic cleaner, rinse, pickle, rinse, copper plate, rinse, nickel plate, rinse, finish plate ie gold etc. then rinse. Spot plating with a pen is pretty cool, I did a little bit for kicks. My accuracy was limited to the wad of bandages wrapped on the supplied squashed copper tube. The pen system you got looks like a high end unit.
  23. Top left appears to be bronze, back part is broken off and worn thin. Was fairly deep in the woods under some thick pine roots. I can't really see any inscriptions other than faint hash marks and something embossed on the front. Other has a solder seem and seems to be brass base with high copper content. Might have been plated at one time and also was found away from any signs of trash also under roots. No idea on the age. Anyone have any clue on them?
  24. Is the acid dip for pickling? If so there is a safer alternative at casswell that I use for pewter prior to antiquing. They also have more home version of the pen plating systems which work but are a bit cheesy.. wadd of bandage on a squashed metal tube hehe. I never got into any full blown plating as the costs and disposal are just too high to make any kind of $$ at it and no way to compete with countries that have no epa. In any case use good ventilation with any plating, fumes aren't that healthy. Make some gold zinc pennies and toss em in corn field for fun 🙂
