  1. Thanks guys. Virus is kicking back in, thought I was coming good. Hope to get out this week though still.
  2. Thanks mate. The 12 Evo, wicked little coil. Usually use the 15 but thought it wise being crook and low on fuel, me, to go light. All up just 6 grams. The better bit 2.4. But saying "just" is not being ungrateful for what I got or "wish it was more" but because it could look more as sometimes gold does. I am 100% grateful for every single bit I get no matter how small. And to anyone who finds anything no matter the size, it's a win. You can't and wont take it with you. πŸ˜‰
  3. Hi guys. Been really sick, still am kind of, recovered about 50%. But came back and saw some notifications. Two can't find. But, I reckon before I got sick I shot off at a member here and may have got it wrong. So, you know who you are and no hard feelings mate, my bad this time. To the Boss, Steve, same, my bad. Still not right though, real bad virus. Haven't felt like this in over 20 yrs. Got fed up of laying around coughing, sweating, nausea so got out. Felt great, kind of, short sessions though and glad to get home. But small wins regardless. 1st pic at the head of a deep lead in the very very last throw outs going up a mountainside. 2nd total virgin ground, very scattered, no rhyme or reason, been there before and it's like "toss a coin" direction you go.
  4. Good stuff. I lived in Tarna for several years and know it like the back of my hand. Great little place. Shame it's lost it Caravan park/fuel and a couple of its shops. Just a pub and Post office now. Ironbark country, love it. I found a leader there years ago and got several ounces out of it in species that looked exactly, and I mean exactly, like that one. Still have one as keepsake. Wonderful tract of country through there, actually from Inglewood all the way through to Talbot. Ill post a pic of that specie when I find it, given I hang around that is. In 2 minds at present. Well done mate.
  5. That's a pretty cool looking ring actually, and that's coming from someone who doesn't generally like jewelry too. πŸ‘
  6. Um, why would a person want to detect just 30 foot, let alone 10 foot, away from another? That'd bug me off seriously bad. I once used to go out detecting with a bloke who kept detecting towards me, coming close all the time. Used to! 😁
  7. Yeah mate. All picks you buy will have it on the upper side for good reason. Scraping with it that underside will see it bounce over rocks and pull away from you. It actually, not being a smarty but just from years in the game, is actually the wrong side. If you compared the 2 its chalk and cheese. But the craft of your work is very good. Hey mate, we all live and learn, I did and still do. ☺️
  8. I prefer the rounds mate on the GPX's. They go deeper. Full stop. Large round in the more open areas, the smaller in the scrubby stuff. Have not used the 14 x 9. But the 17 didn't impress me so I guess I'd be equally unimpressed by the 14. That's me though, some people love them on the GPXs, I dont. I like them on VLFs for wierd little specie stuff but never have on any of the SDs, GPs, or GPX's.
  9. They look nicely made mate but you ground the angle on the scraper end on the wrong side. It should be the top side not the underneath. The tips too will want angling on the top side too. Makes digging and scraping so much easier. Google up a walco and you'll see what I mean.
  10. Bloke I know got one of these things a number of years ago. He tries to deny it if you tell people 😁 Piece of junk.
  11. Well that was different! Never seen a vid chasing gold under water before. Good stuff mate. πŸ‘
  12. Did a fair bit of time, here in Oz, on the 17 and 15 round on a 5000. 15 round. Amazing coil. Will easily get bits down to 1/20th of a gram. The other day got a beuatiful dipping signal, everything about it indicating a larger, 1/4 oz upwards, bit. Dug down 6 inches. Yep looking good. Bit more and a half gram bit. Near there a wobbler, just audible, almost a ground noise. Scrape off a few inches. Starts to define. Few more 100% positive signal. Few more and a specie with 2 grams of prickly gold spread through it. Great coil, spends 80% of the time on the shaft, the other 20% the 12".
  13. Hi Steve. Yes have tried single freq and its the same. Its a great machine and I certainly am keeping it. I have tried everything, it is what it is (actually hate that saying but best describes it). Not having, for me, that actual Auto tracking ability doesn't seem to hinder it. Id love it to have an on its own track button/pad though. Funny, in real tame ground, pipe clay tame, it will track some hot rocks diminishing their signal. Some still ping like a metal target but some do track out. So I know in some cases it does track, but the majority of times in bad ground it doesn't. It's saving grace to me is how forgiving it is when it's out. I've had others in the past that are not forgiving, if the EQ was like them I'd be pretty bugged off but it's not so that's ok. Is that "forgiving" when being out of balance part of the issue for not tracking in my situation? A big part of me thinks yes. But anyway, he he, it is what it is. 😁
  14. Hey all, sorry I didnt get back sooner or when I said. Some things came up, family, work that took all my focus away. Kept meaning to get back but thing after thing took all my attention. But, many had given help and info, yep some I took the wrong way, but have not forgotten. Anyway, my EQ. Box, coil, all checked and done. So, like I said have owned a lot so wont bore you all with it all, but will admit im not a know it all. So here it is with the EQ where I am, all checked, box n coil where a I live. Tracking here where I am in Central Vic Aus, compared to Gt's, Ft,s, XT,s, Eurekas........ below them all. That's why I was so questioning about the EQ's tracking. In a nut shell, it's tracking here is weak, almost non existent. But! You can get it to. Lets say you are using it, walking about, check the balance by raising/lowering. It's out. Raise and lower it from several inches above the ground to actually bumping the coil on the ground physically, "bang" on the ground. It will now balance using Auto Track Balance. Anything else nothing will happen other than a few number changes. Lets say you check and are in 70! But do a manual bal and it goes to 30! Go back to 70 for trial manually. Now, go into Auto Track bal. Raise and lower the coil but as you lower it actually bang the coil to the ground surface. Now it will balance to the same level as it would have done doing a ground balance but only raising and lowering the coil from several inches above the ground to a couple above it without touching the ground, the same you would have done with every other VLF before this EQ! In our hot ground here in OZ in central Vic, for the last couple of month's, this GB procedure, has proven Spot On. Treating it like all previous VLF non PI's has been a total failure using Auto Track/Auto GB. Cheers Guy's.
  15. Cool mate, all good. Maybe this thing does things a bit different to all the others I've had over the years. Im not quite an old dog yet, but Im still open to learning some new tricks. Next week when Im out I'm gonna treat it different, try all the recommendations from you all and report back. Again, appreciate all the input.
  16. No worries mate. I'll put it down to my end as a misunderstanding due to differences in our ways of communicating in your and my cultures. Now, ill start anew. Thanks again and from you're info which I appreciate and others here, I will recheck everything and report back how it all goes. To everyone, much appreciated for the feedback and suggestions, to the Boss Steve too. Lots of bad weather here at present and some work to do, but thanks and Ill let you all know how it goes. Cheers to you all. As Arnie said "ill be back" Apologies for any, well, you know, I'm sure you get it.
  17. They did. They had some really unique tones to some targets. I was surprised when I first tried one. Was getting junk and a few bullets then got a buzz signal, never forget it, thought that's odd and dug up a 3 gram bit. They stagnated though for quite a while, this doesn't surprise me. Actually I thought they had already folded.
  18. Hi mate. Where can these coils be purchased from in Aus for the GPX's and can a person go and see one before hand in the field? Are there any round versions above 12" in the line up?
  19. And that's why you dont sell you're detector based upon rumours! "Dealer told me its gonna replace the 7000" "Its a new cutting edge gold detector, I got the hush hush news on it straight from the testers I know" "you better sell your detectors boys, your Gpx's and 7's aint gonna be worth much soon" Gotta feel sorry though for those who sold some great rigs in anticipation, just for a coin and relic machine.
  20. Ok, thanks. That is again interesting. I know that even though a coil can have the exact same type of wind, that there are different types of litz wire as per strands used. Some more strands, some less. I have used some proto coils in years gone by. Some used more strands, like I said, some less. One I tried was super flighty, but if you got to know it, it outperformed the quieter one. It didn't make the grade as most didn't like it being flightier. But damn, was it a good coil. That was in the standard winds though and as good as it was the flats were better. But before them, it was a much better coil. Love to see in person an Evo vs an X here in Oz. In real conditions, not a test patch. Out and testing responses on undugs. One day perhaps.
  21. Ok, thanks for that. Looks like mine has issues. Yours can change from those small variations. I can watch it and walk from pipeclay off onto red clay and swing or pump and nothing budges, may move 1 value. So I hit the track and give it a pump and within a few pumps goes from say 8 to 65. Or it could be from 50 to 4, depending upon what I walked from or too. But on its own tracking wont respond. I have never seen it respond from being in tracking, leaving it showing tracking and swinging it as I detect in a normal detecting fashion. It's off to Minelab then. Cheers.
  22. No mate, there was no tone at all. I just was seeking an answer which you just gave now, but didnt in your first response. So I clarified my question and repeated it. You have placed a false construct upon my second post based upon your realisation that you had not answered my initial question. It's you who are exhibiting a "tone" as you put it. Have a good day and thanks for your time.
  23. Hi mate. Ill start again. Just to give some history. Im not a newbie and started out with a Garrett groundhog decades ago. Owned every minelab auto tracker ever made. Ok. Im in gold mode. No matter what I do, and yep the icon is on, like above, I can manually change the gb way out so that the detector howls from being out of balance but tracking dont budge and when it does its by just a few number. With the "tracking" icon showing. But if I hit the balance button, hold it, pump it, then it goes into balance. And yes I have tried the 2 frequencies and yes see that for each they can balance on a different value. But like in my first post its not the numbers, it's the detector audibly not in balance. I don't care what numbers show, I want a balance and Auto track does not deliver. Do you get where I'm coming from. This is the worst so called auto tracking I have ever owned from minelab. Nothing in the past Gt, Ft, Xt, Gold Striker.......Eureka, Terra has been this weak at Auto Tracking. Is this a weakness of the EQX or an issue with mine? You'll notice in my first post I said I can take it way out of balance, so it is in essence now a huge ground difference, just like you said it needs to be to notice. You will see I said it doesn't notice or respond to it. Just in case, yes I have lowered sens, upped it, lowered sweep speed, messed with every option it has. Nothing changes it. Like I asked in the OP, does yours track in auto track mode.
  24. Sorry for any spelling grammar errors, I tried to fix them but it got worse pasting things all over the place.
