  1. I was at the beach in dry sand next to an embankment that came down from the highway, running Beach 1 with the gain cranked. It was unlike any hit I had gotten after about 200 hours with the Equinox 800. All the numbers were pretty good but very confused and the varying signals had different strengths. It was an area about a foot and a half across. Each time I rescanned the hole there were more hits. Now, none of these coins are valuable beyond their face value, but look how many there were by the time I finished going over the little area. I had never had anything like that happen - 28 coins in the same hole. fwiw...
  2. Yay for you Skate, recovery in many ways! It's thrilling to know you are progressing so well. Don't push it too hard (and I know that's something that will be ignored for the most part haha). Doing a good deed is one of the most powerful and healing things we can do for each other. Congratulations. I look forward to perhaps following through on what we talked about before your surgery.
  3. I like your look at efficiency. This is a hobby that can produce a lot of wasted motion and effort. The only things I have done to help streamline the way I hunt is that I attached the holder for my Garrett Pinpointer to the wrist strap of the detector. It's easy to find and easy to get at. The other thing I have done is to put small clear furniture bumper pads on the cover I bought for the Eq. control pad that match where the buttons are. They are raised and so are easy to find without looking and easy to use with gloves on. Both these ideas are not mine but they work for me. The only other thing I have learned from painful experience is to carry a spare 9-volt battery for the pinpointer. Having the pointer go dead in the middle of a hunt is a large time waster.
  4. Yup, the earphones hurt my ears after a couple of hours too.
  5. The scoop is the way to go for me except for the bigger ones - I just roll them to the car.
  6. Yup that video matches my experience. There are many good signals that are misinterpreted when the sweep is not overlapping. It's easy to adjust though if, when you get a confused hit, you go back and overlap and also use different angles to listen.
  7. Yeah Bill welcome out of the shadows haha. You have a lot of experience to share, I know this first-hand. It's fun to know you are around. And yes, the Equinox is a killer on coins, can't wait to try it in the goldfields.
  8. What a great read. Thank you as always for taking the time to share and educate. It does not go unnoticed or underappreciated. I fully agree with your strong suggestion to learn how to use this detector. Gold prospecting with a detector is a constant learning process. Combined with learning the Equinox, it is doubly important to heed your words.
  9. I join Skate and others in wishing for healing for your mom, that would be the best treasure of all.
  10. Flbchbm, very interesting point. "... I get diggableTIDs where I believe other detectors that have gone over the same spill just averaged everything into a TID that would indicate junk..."
  11. I love my Equinox. It is a learning experience every time I take it out. The ability to change modes is unique, at least to me. I am learning it's tonal language and have been using 50 tones which is a huge leap in itself. I'm a happy camper.
  12. Wow. That is seriously coincidental. Nice going to both of you.
  13. I generally do hunt by the tones...just not too experienced with 50, but here we go...
  14. I am comfortable with 5 tones but your comment about stuffing things into 5 compartments got me thinking. I am going to shift to 50 tones and dispite the slight discomfort (it's a lot of tonal input), I'll give it a go for a few weeks and see what I learn. Thanks...
  15. Steve (and everyone), I might have missed it, but are you mainly hunting in 50 tones then? Thanks...
  16. Thanks Steve. I have tried several times and so far no luck. I'm open to suggestions.
  17. Slightly off topic, but will hearing aids that have bluetooth pair up with the Equinox? I tried today a few different ways and didn't have any luck.
  18. Actually polite disagreement is what makes this forum go. It is the differences that add to our knowledge. It's especially true when people with an abundance of knowledge and experience, work out their differences in ways that educate us all. Thanks...
  19. Yes Cal_Cobra, me too. From the way the 800 has worked on the beach and in the parks I have been working in, there seems to be a real possibility this may be a great (lightweight), possibility for finding gold. Can't wait to be able to try it out. Thank Steve and Lunk et al, for alluding to the possibility.
  20. Lunk how do you reckon it will do on larger pieces?
